(WARNING: MINOR SPOILERS). Entertainment Reporter and film critic, Kevin McCarthy, sat down with Mike Flanagan, Rebecca Ferguson, Ewan McGregor and Kyliegh Curran for Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep.
I've never seen an interviewer like this and I love him. He's fantastic: his questions, his enthusiasm & passion, his charm without trying to be, all that. Great interview. And Rebecca Ferguson, love her.
I disagree. Like does anyone really give a shit if its shot on 35mm or digital? Does anyone really care if this or that was done on CGI or with practical effects? These are literally the only questions he asks interview after interview. It's a very self-indulgent form of interviewing of asking questions that are so esoteric its more to satisfy his own nerdy curiosity. And the dorky over excitement with the talent is starting to feel manipulative.
@@TheLonesomeChef Would you prefer that he asked the same dull questions that nearly every other interviewer asks? Compare his interviews with any other press junkets for the same film and you'll see that the actors/directors are visibly enthralled by his questions. Remember that the people he interviews are film enthusiasts themselves and that 90% of the people watching these videos are film enthusiasts too, so you can't seriously think that no-one cares about how a film is shot.
TheLonesomeChef bull. I can look at any one of the other 300 interviews for this film to get the answers to the same old same old questions. Kevin asks genuinely unique questions which I find super admirable. Plus, his passion about film is radiating, which is unique in interviewers now of days.
honestly I think it's going to make its money back once it hits digital and if anything it will help everyone else's career due to fan feedback and the general positive reviews, get it five years the movie will be seen as a cult classic
I like the movie. But not what I was expecting for a sequel. There were a lot of things my girlfriend and I questioned. One for example was where the hell did the knots come from? To me, I was expecting the I Overlook hotel to be more of an emphasis throughout the movie, but it wasn't until later
Well I think they made a bold move to call it solely as Stephen King's Doctor Sleep instead of The Shining:Chapter Two. Add that to a minimal marketing, it's a miracle they could broke the box office. But it's more rewarding for true fans...
Seriously, Stephan King "movies" have been hit or miss, mostly miss but these past few years have been hit after hit after hit. Finally a movie to do his books justice. Doctor Sleep is SUCH a good book.
Would you be on if King wrote a prequel to the Shining. Maybe call it the Overlook. The first novel the Shining told alot of history from that hotel even the story behind the lady in the tub.
@@johansmallberries9874 That could be near the end of the movie. Everyone dies and the music play and as the camera zoom out the front door it closes on its own. ... 😶😱 damn just thinking about that is creepy.
Rebecca Ferguson...most beautiful woman in the world! Seriously. Also, I always am amazed at how the actors/actresses lose their natural accents and why they are chosen instead of American ones. It must be very difficult. Excellent job to all! BTW, did I mention the beauty of Rebecca Ferguson?
@@jamesleodelacruz she could get a mental breakdown later in real life if she realized about the truth stories about child sacrifices within the deepstate. She can end up bad psychologically. She's just a human
Rebecca Ferguson was the best performance of the film. Her character was delivered so well that it’s hard to believe she was just a character and not a real person. All of her scenes with the little girl Abra was amazing.
@@Fahrenheitluverxoxo I'm with you. Not taking away from Rebecca and Ewan but my god- Jacob came in for a small cameo on his birthday, with no direction, and shocked everyone with his incredible performance. Flanagan said "I'm going to get out of Jacob's way" because he worked with him before, saw Room, and knew he was dealing with an all-time great. When accomplished actors are moved to the point of tears and struggling to stay in character in the presence of a child prodigy, you know that he is incredibly special. I hope he stays strong, successful, humble and happy, because this is the tip of the iceberg for him.
The blood elevator scene in Dr Sleep clearly looks different than in The Shining. So I was surprised when I read in IMDB that they reused Kubrick's footage. And I'm glad this video corrects the misinformation.
Yes, you can see it was slightly from the right and now I noticed it was also from above. Amazing work. Rebecca's character reaction though reminded me of Spock saying "fascinating".
The great Jacob Tremblay in a nutshell. Insane acting ability, this one has. It reminds me of how I felt the first time I saw Michael Jordan play basketball. :O
The scene with the boy nr.19 was so horrible. That boys acting in that scene made it far worse. He is probably going to grow up to become a fantastic actor when he can pay it that well when he is that young. It felt like genuine fear.
Kevin McCarthy absolutely killed it! I could watch him interview all day long. He asks all the right questions, especially the nerdy ones, that movie buffs love. I’ve never liked an interviewer before. Keep up the great work Kevin! Looking forward to more interviews!
Rebecca is my new crush, and I love her personality. After watching the movie (the first time), I kept wondering what her reaction was like filming the murder scene.
I don't like horror, because now it is all about jump-scares and scaring and scarring the audience. But I like horror, when it makes me feel uncomfortable.
Mike Flanagan is a phenomenal horror film Director. He uses jump scares sparingly and smartly. If you enjoy Doctor Sleep, I encourage you to watch his other films. His Netflix series Haunting of Hill House has great atmospheric horror
I would recommend the Babadook. It's creepy, got a good story, and not one jump scare in the entire film. Also Get Out is a fantastic scary movie that doesn't have any real jump scares.
@@mr.brownie3331 That's the scene, Extremely disturbing and its been stuck in my head since i first saw the movie. I wondered what it was like for Rebecca to film that scene. Now i know. lol
How did I miss this movie in the theater?!? Never heard anyone talk about it. Rebecca Ferguson is beautiful but I didn't notice her beauty in this movie, but just her fantasic acting talent.
I hate seeing children get hurt in movies or in real life, and the actor who portrayed Bradley Trevor was so believable that I wanted to jump into the movie and help him. Rebecca, you did a great job of portraying Rose! Later in the film when her character’s goons were being destroyed, I smiled, and I smiled big. I hoped that Rose was feeling every bit of the terror she inflicted on Bradley. I’m curious though, did Rebecca ad-lib “Shhhh! It’s okay” when the boy was crying and screaming? I’m not trying to self-promote, but if a child asked me “Are you going to hurt me?” I would reply “No! Absolutely not”, and I would help them up, because I would rather die than hurt a kid.
Seen the movie a few times and the last part where she stabs even harder to get the rest of his steam and the shot of his head turned to the side (now dead) makes me cringe. Also the joyful look she gives to her crew.
I noticed the elevator blood stream was shot at higher angle which at first I thought they used different take of Kubrik, bcI think he did 3 takes on that. Nice tie Kevin
I thought this would be a hollow Hollywood sequel to a great classic, but I loved Doctor Sleep once I finally saw it. Very underrated film and reminds me a lot of Blade Runner 2049 in those regards. Also Rebecca Ferguson is gorgeous and was awesome as Rose the Hat
Great interview. And omg what an amazing movie! Everything was fantastically crafted and put together. And to realize that Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, and Gerald's Game are by the same director is such a surprise! Mike Flanagan is a sensitive genius. And Rebecca Ferguson? What a treat even for my gay eyes.
I agree and the best scene of Jacob's young, phenomenal career. And he's had a lot of amazing scenes. I've never seen an actor like him before, child or otherwise.
Saw this movie 4 days ago and its staying with me,good job Mike ,cast and crew. I wanted this with the Dark Tower movie, thinking about it ,happy it turned out this way, Rebecca shone like the sun in her role, great to see people doing what they are good at with pleasure.
Doctor Sleep is it. The Shining story is over. Now what they could do if Stephen King would help out they could make a prequel. About the Overlook hotel. In the first book thr Shining there was alot of history with that hotel.
I loved Ewan’s answer to the question about whether he incorporated child Danny’s performance into adult Danny. It’s true for most people: we carry our parents with us as adults in how we act, albeit, to varying degrees.
THE HEARTBEAT SOUND IN RHE MOVIE THE INTERVIEWER SAID HE QUESTIONED WHETHER OR NOT IT WAS HIS OWN HEARTBEAT IS WEIRD. I THOUGHT THE EXACT SAME THING! I HAD TO TAKE OUT MY EARPHONES TO MAKE SURE I WASNT HAVING A HEART ATTACK! ANYONE ELSE?!?! WONDER IF HE USED THAT BINAURAL BEAT THAT MAKES YOU FEEL ANXIETY!
Such a great movie, very faithful for the most part to the novel and Flannagan does a almost impossible job of trying to stay faithful while pleasing old school king fans and fans of The Kubrick Shining. Tremendously well cast & acted. Rebecca is amazing as Rose & so sexy.
Regardless of reviews...I really loved this movie..and finding about all the tricks is so amazing...thanks! This director is just stellar. Thanks again for this bit of film geekdom..Going to see this again for the 4th time tonight....should have been released at Halloween. Another under rated King film was "Pet Semetary" this year......creepy.....and I loved it! I must have a screw loose for my enjoyment of these movies...Thanks to All involved!
The scene when they all torture and kill slowly in the most despicable way the little boy with a small knife was horrifying and I couldn't believe it. I was absolutely petrified and I felt literally frozen inside. All the blood frozen in my veins just like my heart. I was almost dead inside. His cries and tears haunted me for at least three days. That was brutal and extremely chocking.
You just witnessed one of the greatest performances in the history of film by one of the best actors to ever live. Imagine how great he'll be as an adult. It's scary.
Dude this movie was soooo good. I am so glad I saw the shining instead of reading the book. I have seen the Kubrick shining so many times that I catch so many new things that I didn’t the previous times. Watching Doctor Sleep for the first time I was paying attention to every detail. I saw some cool homages and Easter eggs.
she did an amazing job i didnt even know who she was in mission impossible, this movie really brought her out and totally deserved it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love Rebecca Ferguson, too. So skilled, such a powerful presence on the screen; but also genuinely funny and with a lovely outgoing personality. And yeah, she's right easy on the eyes. Thought the movie was okay.
