Unfortunately the persons sending you angry emails, never formulated their products with POC in mind. Your channel is dedicated to us, and you are dedicated to giving us the best information, which will allow us to make inform decisions. Thank you for your love letter to us❤️
Doctor V, You are here for us and we are also here for you, so never lose hope, we are proud of you, because you are helping us a lot, I'm very, very happy for the day I found you, Thank you for your time, bless you and your family. Thanks.❤❤❤
Don’t we all learn that skincare isn’t just about treating your skin but also preventing skin inflammation? She’s all about treating your skin “safely” with 0% irritation and she already mentioned it so many times in her videos. Her opinions on glycolic acid is completely understandable and valid since they were all based off of scientific evidence and research that she has done on her own specifically for skin of colour. I just don’t get it why would a lot of people come for her. We love your prudence Dr. V 💕
Please don't get affected. I know what you mean. I tried using glycolic acid and it burned my face and made my face sooo dark for the longest time and I was not a happy camper. It took me 6months to bring my face color back and I'm not even there. I am so thankful to see your channel because it educated me. And everything you said, I followed them and I see a good result and I can say, I am a happy camper now because my skin is getting better and better everyday... 😊 More power!
Rhian Pineda I have dermal pigmentation due to glycolic acid peel 50% used wrong around my lips. What products did you use to get rid of it ? Also I live in India.
Same here. I got darker and I am nearly back to my normal skin tone six months later. Initially I was glowing and I loved it but then I noticed my skin was getting darker but I assumed I was tanning due to summer so I went along with it for a good few months 😩.
Myview tv I am so sorry you had to go through that . Please avoid Duac and try Azelaic acid as an anti bacterial. They all keep the bacteria away moderately. Benzoyl peroxide oxidises and makes the de pigmentations ineffective. You are not using any active for de pigmentation, please watch the ordinary layering from Dr V to find products to de pigment.
Thank u very much ve been trying to get on on dr v to build retuin for me but she hasnt even seen my messg lol cos im so new to this acide and i get confused. Just tired of buying and not using it.
I really appreciate you not being afraid to give us the truth. It's about time, and we love to see it. Keep up the good work! You are blessing us with your knowledge, and we really appreciate it.
She turned on that camera and did some damage control. She said "listen yall, you taken it too far" i cant believe people were really in your dms like that. Stay blessed queen.
I used to use glycolic acid and my skin looked great at first but then it made my hyperpigmentation worse!!! So glad you are ringing the bell for us! Please keep educating us.
How often were you using it? And was it in the form of a toner or facial cleanser? Also what was your initial skin condition? (active acne, inflammation, textured skin, hyperpigmentation? I just purchased a facial cleanser but my problem is fixing my texture skin and blemishes from prior acne breakouts, I don’t currently have active inflamed acne just a pimple or two. So I’m just wondering. Some people are making me scared to try it 😆😅
@@sakariyasmine4014 I was using a serum daily. My skin is generally smooth but I have issues with hyperpigmentation. You may be ok with a cleanser as it’s immediately washed off but I put nothing with glycolic acid on my face anymore. Lesson learned.
@@marilynsanders5000 its because you were using it daily. You were only meant to use it about once a week. No wonder why you had those bad side effects
Could you please review makeup brands as well? There are definitely a lot of chemicals in foundations, primers, and concealers that may not be good for pores, fine lines, and acne. It would be helpful to know what brands and/or products we should be staying away from.
Doctor V, Can you make a video on best products for hormonal acne in detail: which should cover best products for people who constantly have hormonal acne, sensitive skin and hirsutism.
Yes! I have pcos and it is what has / do cause my hyperpigmentation. Even my esthetician said well if your hormones are constantly out of wack, it's hard for us to maintain 🤦🏽♀️😩
If people are angry with you for educating POC to the dangers, that speaks volumes about their integrity. They don't have any! Keep doing what you do. It's because of you that I know how to treat my adult acne and hyperpigmentation.
I’m not angry with you for exposing glycolic acid, I’m more angry at the fact that nobody tells us POC the affects of using it. I’m glad you’re telling us this because the industry feeds us lies and we end up doing more damage than good. I bought a glycolic acid face wash and toner and have been BLINDY using them. Thank you for educating me because no one else did. Not even my personal dermatologist. THANK YOU! ♥️♥️♥️
Speak your truth. Don't be afraid, we need empowerment. There is so much knowledge in your videos. You are a star. There is no where else you could get all this information for free. Air hugs
Okay, this was my final confirmation. I’m gonna skip the glycolic and choose a lactic or mandelic acid. This was so in depth and informative. Thank you. Ready to get this skin back on track.
yes please and could u do a video on the best deodorants for S. O. C cause I'm told its the ingredients in certain deodorants that are causing us to hyper pigment🙏🙏🙏
Dr. Vanita Rattan The Hyperpigmentation Clinic Hi Dr V ! Loving all your videos ! Just discovered them and they are a real blessing , thank you !! I scrolled through your list and just wondering if you had done any videos on “After breastfeeding your kids ....how to help make the skin more full of life again lol” I’ve breastfed three kids and I could do with some help 🤦🏾♀️
I so appreciate your transparency. I appreciate you not caving to pressure to soften your reviews to placate the masses. You’re the most credibility source for skin of color on here.
The industry is only angry because they thrive off business based on misinformation. And your here educating us with correct study based facts. Thank you so much Dr V for what you are doing for skin of colour xx
I cannot LOVE YOUR INTENT AND STANDARD for skin of color enough!!!💜💜💜 ... please keep doing what you are doing and the rest of the industry will follow
I think its amazing you're not compromising your values and what you want (0% burns). You are genuinely the first person I've seen address these issues with glycolic acid
You are a QUEEN PERIOD! Thank you so much for your honesty and actually caring about skin of color. As a black woman skincare is already hard enough for me so I can appreciate knowing what to use and what not to use. Just trashed my TO glycolic acid 7% , because I trust your FACTS. ❤️ love you Dr.V keep informing us, because the media sure will not.
Thanks to you I raised my standards so high for my skin! I have learnt so much that my friends ask me so much about the skin and trust me I give them the right advice based on what we shouldn't use 😊
Wow so my black dermatologist who i searched through 60 pages of dermatologists in my state and drove 75 miles to see i asker her if i wanted to do a chemical peel which type should i use ... she told me glycolic acid and make sure a physician is doing it not an esthetician .. immediately knew i made a mistake thinking she would give me any different information then my 3 previous white male dermatologists who did not have a focus of skin of color under their belt 😢 she did but i really lost faith in dermatologists... started thinking i should take my ass to medical school because i wanted to learn so much about my skin how to fix it and how to help others . I dont have the faith or focus in myself to go start right now. Thank you so much for your channel ❤️❤️❤️
Oh my darling dr V , I always dreamed being a dermatologist when I started studying medical but I turned to be a gynaecologist, though I love my field a lot, but from the day I began to watch your videos something inside me stings me to go back to time and start as a dermatologist and be the part of your passion ♥️♥️♥️♥️ Really love to see you every time Bravo for such a great and sincere work 👏👏👏
As a brown girl with hyper pigementation, I've seen so many white influencers make videos on glycolic acid which is why I wanted to buy it but I wanted to research about it first. Thank you for this ❤
I've seen black women claiming it did wonders for them too it just works differently for everyone ig I'd give it a go and then decide if it works or not
Your dedication to your followers and the skin care society is absolutely commendable. To put such controversial statements out there against all the skin care companies/ organisations who benefit from myth and our lack of knowledge shows your mettle. You are the only skin specialist channel I watch and agree wholeheartedly. ❤️ from Australia
Love u Dr V!! . As a new Esthetician I must say I'm obsessed with your fact based knowledge!!! Bc of you I DO NOT use glycolic acid as a peel etc.. only Lactic no matter who wants bc of integrity and me wanting the best for my clients!! And me! Bc I treat SOC and I too have hyperpigmentation. So if I don't use it on me I wouldn't use it on my clients. Thank u so much❤🙏
I am turning 55, and was concerned abt my skin, yr videos explain things so well…so from the jungle of products, now I know what to use and what not. Thnx
Thank you for this video and all the information and content you put out. You e the only doctor I’ve seen talk specifically about these products and issues for POC and it’s VERY needed. Thank you
Ive bought the glycolic acid toner from the ordinary to exfoliete my body and i am sooo glad ive seen your video on time. I did not use the glycolic and returned it back. Thank you so much!!
I used glycolic acid and it made my skin veryy dryy!! And got more pigmentation 😢 but since i used naicinamide , alpha arbutin and azealic acid my skin is soo much better!! Thank you Dr V so haappyyy i found you 💕
I used to use pixie glow tonic and I was very happy with the result. Then I started using the ordinary toner. My skin used to burn so much and it literally felt hot. I stopped using it. Then i came across your video and my concern got validated. Thanks Dr. V!
Give it a break dont over use you can neutralise if it burns with baking soda. Dilute in water and apply on skin. You can search on RU-vid how to neutralise skin at home after using acids. Don’t over use . It’s amazing if used correctly.
The reason I clicked on the video is because I wanted to know about using glycolic acid on our skin, specially since I keep getting a burning sensation after using it, now I get why... I needed to watch this video, really informative... Thank you.
Greatly appreciate all the knowledge you're sharing with our skin of color community. I'm 40 and am diligent with my skin care, but still suffer from melasma and hyperpigmentation. Thanks to your videos I have now stopped using any actives in my morning skincare routine, glycolic acid, and chemical sunscreen on my face. I'm now looking into substituting Wishtrend's 5% Mandelic acid into my nighttime routine. Please continue providing us with your amazing informational content.
Dr V, you do choose your words wisely. Too long the industry has been selling us products that was never meant for our skin. However, we buy them base on the recommendation from their false advertisement. Here in the states we get just about all the products. Now that you come along as a cosmetic formula educating us the industries are up in arms. You teaches us on reading labels before buying and where to test the product before putting on our face. I thank you along with many others. Keep up the good work.
I love your videos and definitely have changed how I how I buy skincare products: I look at the ingredients, I see the formulations, then I purchase. To note: I have light olive-tone skin. I think your videos are really amazing for both skin of color and people who are lighter skin. Thanks. The industry is only mad because the formulation is only meant to get them more sales- there's no thought behind it.
Thank you for taking the time to really clarify what the challenges are using glycolic acid and what one needs to carefully consider. You have a strong clear voice in this sector and users like me listen and pay attention.
Your videos are the reason I started to understand what am I putting on my skin. I feel like I became a smarter “user”. Thank you very much for making those informative videos, and pls continue.!
An esthetician, not a POC, caused severe PIH on my face with a glycolic peel. I wish someone told me Glycolic Acid was the devil back then. Thank you Dr. V. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Its like Dr V is a mom giving teenagers advice that we dont want to hear because we think we know more, and are throwing fits but as the parent she takes it because she knows whats best lol Dr V, youre amazing. Im sorry youre dealing with so much anger, im sure you figured out people have strong opinions about other people's opinions. Just know we love you and would be heartbroken if you left or gave up.
The truth is always unpleasant. Thank you for being honest and sticking to the standard👍 Please review products from the "good molecules" skin care line.
Dr. V, you are highly knowledgeable and informative when providing insight into skincare. Thank you for being the voice and providing ppl of color the best ways to use products. In addition, please don’t let the negative comments or individuals misquoting bother you. By the way, I am glad you had a video on this product. I started using it two weeks ago & noticed my skin started to feel Irritated & having a burning sensation every time after using this product. Again, Thank you so much for the insight after looking at your video and taking better care of my skin. I have been getting compliments on how youthful my skin looks. I also have shared your videos with my daughter and friends. Keep up the extraordinary work🙌🏽
Im half white half brazilian. I use glycolic acid and its the only acid that brighten my skin over night into almost glass skin. i never had irritation from it! i also love lactic acid and mandelic acid. for me the trouble maker is BHA ( salicylic acid ). I guess everyones skin is different :-)
I use it too and so far no complaints at all , I think some people are either using it too frequently or at a high percentage, or both . In particular I'm using The Ordinary 7% solution and only apply it twice or thrice a week
@@kellijane3641 hi.. I cleanse my face with a very gentle cleanser.i use a cleanser by name Moiz, which is available in India.. Apply 3-4 drops of the Mandelic acid to my dry face n neck... Let it absorb, top it up with the CeraVe pm moisturizer.. I'm planning to add niacinamide as a water based serum before Mandelic acid, letting my skin to first get used to Mandelic acid... starting with only once a week.. less is more with exfoliation.. Hope this helps 💙 Once
There is no need for anyone to be angry. Mandelic acid is becoming more and more widely available. I buy 40% mandelic acid peels for my face from Makeup Artist's Choice, and it never burns! If I can buy it, estheticians can certainly buy it, too.
Wow this is a news for me i am a brown girl and i have been using glycolic acid toner from ordinary for 7 months and it has changed my skin texture for the better but now i think i will keep a close eye on it! Thanks for the video!
you are awesome! I wisssshhhh I had you in my corner 3 years ago when I was practically in no-man's land with skincare knowledge. As a newbie i would devour advice from experts on the Tube and was running for the ever popular glycolic acid to help with melasma after my pregnancy. Long story short I ended up with burning and hyperpigmentation on the areas I was trying to make amends to. So I must say thank you for giving us brown and black ladies and gents an avenue for skincare advice specific for our skin type.
I use glycolic acid regularly. However, the percentage is very low and doesn't make my skin "peel." I was very careful, testing a so-called peel product before putting it on my face. I've had great results using several types i.e. pads, treatment duos, with no problems, ( side effects) at all. I think it's important to test any product before using it on the face to avoid burning, peeling, or other problems that will cause hyperpigmentation. I love it, and have had nothing but great results from using it.
Oh god! I have been using Plum toner which not only contains fragrance but also Glycolic acid and I used to apply more than a layer before my hyaluronic acid! This is the reason why my pimples aren't reducing! Thank you, Dr this info saved my skin from getting worse.
Hi Dr V could please do a review on Naturium's latest product launch which features, an azelaic acid serum, madelic acid serum, transexamic serum, alpha arbutin serum, PHA serum and HA essence? Thanks for all your great videos, as a medical student who wishes to become a derm one day, I enjoy each and everyone.
@@MinPinSteve What I've noticed however that their formulas are usually a combination of ingredients and I don't know if those are OK. I just want to stick to the acid without all the blending of additional stuff
I would really like to thank you and tell you to keep up the amazing work for skin of colour. I sat up one night about a month ago, in tears after I did my night routine. Couldn't figure out why my skin was getting worst with dry eyes, laugh lines, hyperpigmentation, dullness, texture and the list goes on, when I was following a "regimen". Before I went to sleep I remembered a friend of mine sent me your page in an inbox, any who my bed time was delayed 3 hours later and I threw out all of my old skincare products. Started from scratch with only products you've recommended and within 2 weeks I saw a major difference in the appreance of my skin. My under eyes looked less sunken in and hydrated, I literally broke down in tears because I'm in my late 20's and wanted to start helping my aging process on my skin early and I had such resilient skin, I didn't do the research because I thought any thing would work. Oh was I wrong..... Your information is pure FACTS these product accelerate your aging process at least by 10 years if you aren't carful maybe even more. 1 month later and I can walk out the house NO MAKEUP and I feel comfortable again, this is a liberating. Thank you once again.💕😁
I was about to buy the pixi glycolic toner this morning but decided to come on RU-vid and do a little research first and I’m so grateful I found your video! Thank you so much for helping me save my money, I’m definitely going to educate other people on this
Seriously doctor, this gotta be one of the best channels. so glad i found your channel! i was using glycolic before and i thought that hot feeling was normal but then i notice some areas were darkerish after wearing it, i've stopped wearing it now. im learning a lot about it here. i would really love if you could do a video on how to take care with hyperpigmentation on different parts of the body like the back? that would be awesome, like i have no idea how to fix it :( and also thank you so much for posting all these videos! 💐
Hi Doctor V, I'm a woman of color who loves and appreciate what you do. Dr V. I'm currently using a skin care range called Neostrata Restore Range which has Polyhydroxy Acids. Can you please do a video on Neostrata and Polyhydroxy Acids for our skin of color, will really appreciate it. From: Constance
Stay your ground Dr V!! We are here to support you. We need your expertise and guidance! You are definitely educating us and we definitely appreciate it! 🤗❤️
I have used a glycolic acid cleanser occasionally. Super drying but no pigmentation issues. Serums with low percentage glycolic are also fine. But I’m happy to know about alternatives that are less risky. Because sure enough, I do have pigmentation issues when things burn my face. Just hasn’t happened with glycolic yet.
I got burnt and roasted with glycolic acid toner from the ordinary, and am still dealing with the burnt scar...Thank you very much for the information...
I used the the ordinary 30% AHA + 2% BHA TWICE! Just twice in my entire life, and my superhumanly insensitive skin had a centimeter-large dark spot over my upper lip I have been in the sun for hours without sunscreen, trekking and swimming and I have never had pigmented spots but glycolic acid gave me one massive spot in two uses. I didn't even keep it on for 5 minutes. So when Dr V says it's not good for skin of color, believe her. 🥺
If I had known the harmful effects of glycolic acid 2 yrs ago, my skin barrier wouldn't be destroyed!! Now, I have to spend money and lots of time repairing my skin barrier 😔. Thank you, Dr V for all the fearless education you've provided🤩😍Keep going💪🏼
The question is why do we glycolic avid while we have other boys to do the job. Of course glycolic acid is not an evil. But Dr V is trying to lead us through the 0% irritation thing guys. Ma personal take on it is that if u r a person of skin of color n using glycolic acid n getting results without 0 irritation then go on. These videos remind us of other better options too. For those who r starting to play with AHA try mandelic or lactic acids.
@@LL-rk5lv This shows your skin loves lactic acid more than glycolic acid. Have u tried mandelic acid, give it a shot. Use glycolic acid if your skin is loving it. Skin care is subjective as it is. Find the product which works for you.
I loved this video it is the 1st time that I am seeing it and here’s what I support you 100%.Thank you for caring about skin of color . I am looking at all your videos .❤
I love the information given to us is thorough and simple to understand with resources we can further look into. We are free to make our own (informed) decition. I love this learning experience.
I love you Dr V! ❤❤❤ Thank you for all you do and for this channel. We are not angry at you. You get us, you see us. The 'angry folks' don't. (P.S 7% glycolic acid toner irritated my combo acne prone skin really badly so there! 😊 Dr V knows what she's talking about)
Yes.. it is actually the devil.. even if dr v is sweet enough to not say so.. it caused hyperpigmentation on my skin too .. trying to deal with it for the last 5 months.. hopefully it goes away.. thank you dr v.. continue your amazing work.. the world needs you ❤️❤️
God bless you, Dr. V. You are a godsend. POC have been disregarded for entirely too long. You are an angel. All the hard work you have done is paying off. I will continue to share you channel. We love you! ❤️
So thankful for your presence here. Skincare is such a confusing place, there is so much misinformation ESPECIALLY when it comes to people of color. Your passion is so admirable and all your videos are so informative. Thank you for speaking your truth. I am not surprised companies/estheticians are angry at you since your channel is helping us become informed and empowered in our skincare decisions!
I understand the rationale of 0% irritation and is a fair call in why you choose to not use glycolic acid. On your website you mention being a leading pioneer in research and would love to see the research that you have published. Especially when there is very little research in regards to treatments for skin of colour, it will be great to see the contributions that you have made to research to address this limitation :)
Dr V I just ❤❤ you! We have to thank you for educating and empowering us to demand the highest standard for our skin because no-one has ever said it or has had the in-depth knowledge that you possess! Honestly before watching your channel I had no clue that the products I was using was harming my skin. I thought that since it's 'natural' it would be fine. But now I know better and I've passed the info to my fambamz n friends. My niece who has eczema on her hands (she's been using many lotion that's suppose to be fantastic for eczema), nothing really worked except cerave, it's restoring her skin barrier! You have the full support and love of the skin of color family❤❤❤
Please can you make a video talking about your family's pharmaclinix products?? Also why does the Lightenex Gold serum have 8% glycolic acid and mentions it is for skin of colour? From this video, it seems high rather than the 1-2% you recommend for the face
I've tried commenting this a few times and within 1 hour but I think I am getting my comments blocked! Not sure why Dr V just doesn't address this or speak much about her own family's products
@@vanitarattan Thanks for your reply and update on this, glad to hear this will be reformulated. I did also purchase 4 pharmaclinix products recently...and was disappointed to find out they have parfum in them!! It was not listed on the website ingredients, when I bought them online though but it did say this on the box.... I'm not an expert in ingredients but parfum is the easiest to recognise, I'm now concerned what else might be in there that is not suitable for skin of colour. Although I appreciate you aren't in control of everything, I did only hear about pharmaclinix because of you and your family connections and because of watching your videos I purchased the products because of my trust in you. I think it would be really helpful if you could make a video about the pharmaclinix products and which ones you recommend or what is being reformulated, as I'm sure alot of people like me have bought their products due to trusting you, but it is contradictory to find out the products go against what you normally recommend for the same reasons you have suggested to not purchase some products from other brands....such as not using products with parfum due to contact dermatitis or high glycolic acid Yet these products are STILL being marketed towards skin of colour, despite risking pigmentation, and also a lot of the marketing is towards "fairness" and "skin whitening" which is already a big problem in alot of Asian and African cultures and preying on alot of insecurities. Not blaming you personally but as someone with a platform and your influence on people and mentioning your family's brand/labs in your videos, I do feel this needs to be addressed. I have been waiting for you to release products such as the dark circles kit and elbows and knees kit, but given I'm disappointed with the pharmaclinix products I have already purchased, I am now hesitant about buying and new products you come out with.
you’re fantastic! thank you for all that you do for us (even putting yourself in harms way!) the education and empowerment is exactly what we need as a community. you’ve helped so many of us! you’ve transformed the skin of colour conversation entirely, we’re now opting for the safest not the harshest. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Yes! This! You have the education, evidence and experience to back you up. Thank you for your time and for putting this out so people can have better judgement
Dr.V - Keep doing what you are doing! Your intentions are clean, how can people not see that!! It is easy for you to have people use Glycolic Acid, have them burn their skin and come to your clinic for treatment and increase your $$$$$. You don’t want people to have to learn it the hard way!! So kudos to you!! Please continue to churn these great content for people like me (which you have a HUGE audience of!) who are here to know the truth from the “qualified” people!! Thanks for all that you are doing!!
Hi Dr V. Love your videos. I hope you’re doing well through this pandemic. Just wanted to let you know that I appreciate the knowledge that you transferred through your videos. Please continue the good work!
You are making a massive change in skincare for skin of colour. Our needs have not been catered to, the industry should have been aware of this. You are heaven sent, we appreciate you. We are better educated on how to take care of our skin. Please do not be disheartened. I have learnt so much its incredible. What a lot of people do not understand is that you give advise on what to watch out for in order to make informed choices. You do not dictate to us, you advise and inform. That is sufficient for me.
Love your channel Dr V! Honestly, it’s been very much needed for a long time. I feel like people don’t realise how much a difference having clinical experience, as well as being a cosmetics formulator as well as conducting your trials, as well as having experience of melesma yourself makes to the quality of advice you give. It takes years to get that point and standard in a field, but it really comes across in the work you do. I work as a physio and have a sports science degree as well,as working in research, sports coaching and having been an athlete myself. I feel the same way about the fitness industry and everything I see 🙈🙈. Please could you do a video on pitted/ice pick acne scars and how to get rid of them? They’re a nightmare to get rid of. Is microneedling/dermabrasion/mesotherapy etc safe for us? And peels wise...can mandelic acid peel be used to get rid of pitted scars too instead of the other peels out there? I had a pxr-t33 treatment done and I swear it made the pigmentation on my neck worse 🙈. Thank you in advance. Keep up the great work ;)
