I think my only complaint was having Clara choose her fate and face it directly only to have it kind taken from her because we can’t actually kill companions I guess… I also wish there was something more to returning to gallifrey. It felt a little underwhelming.
@averagecartoonfan6348
@averagecartoonfan6348 6 месяцев назад
@@coreymason7017 I make it my personal headcanon, that the more time that she spends avoiding her death, the more time tries to pull her towards it. The tardis gets pulled closer to it no matter how much they try to avoid it, random time jumps will try and send her back, to the point that she can't avoid it any longer and she's pulled back to her death. Literally nothing textually informs that it just makes it feel a bit more final as an ending I guess to me

I want to see Clara finally chosing her last journey to go back to Trap Street and explain why she does. It's a fixed point in time, the Doctor witnessed her death himself.

Rassilon regenerated many times. He was always a person of questionable character before the new series, some considered him a hero, others a villain. But with the new show, and the audios, his dark side was revealed, and I think, they do a good job having the Doctor take him out here. He needed it. Next episode is a personal favorite of mine, though it is not for everyone.

I used to hate that the "who is the hybrid" was never answered, but on rewatch I realize it's perfect. The story isn't actually about the hybrid, the Doctor was just dangling that to get his way and save Clara. He didn't answer the question after 4.5 billion years of torture, and he still has his little secret to this day, in my head cannon

I love this storyline so much (the trilogy as a whole). As you'll see, the Christmas special that follows is a nice light-hearted treat for the Doctor after all he's gone through. As for this episode, i do find it interesting how it parallels the previous finale. In the Series 8 finale, Clara gets into a state after Danny dies. Here, the Doctor goes into a state after Clara dies. Not only that, but this was always destined to happen. Missy chose Clara for him after all, even commenting how perfect it is.

Also part of that strange breed. It very much needed to be his and Clara’s story. I much prefer this one, their farewell is beautiful, I just wish she didn’t get her own tardis at the end. There’s no real reason why she couldn’t continue travelling with 12 practically forever now I get they’re not healthy for each other but her story doesn’t ever have to end as she’s basically immortal until she decides to go back and die

11:12 This is the part that always hurts me the most. 😭 And you can even see it in Clara's reaction, even she couldn't hold up the facade anymore there for a second.... Just imagine, your best friend. The one person who knows you best, that you've known for years, is looking for you and says to your face "If I EVER saw my best friend again, I would absolutely know!".... 💔 Ouch, brutal. ...

I still don't understand why some critics heavily criticise this episode .Unfairly underrated. I personally found it entertaining and sad at times. Seeing the TARDIS happy to be reunited with the doctor and throwing his sonic screwdriver in the air, which the doctor caught in the air, was an iconic scene.

And here's some hypocrisy... 10: I've done this sort of thing before. In small ways, save some little people, but never someone as important as you. Oh, I'm good. Fans: Yes! I love this dark side of the Doctor! Well done RTD! 12: The universe is over! It doesn't have a say any more! We're standing on the last ember, the last fragment of everything that ever was. As of this moment, I'm answerable to no-one! Fans: Argh! Moffat, you've ruined the Doctor!
@DWaDDLJ
@DWaDDLJ 6 месяцев назад
@thepandorica1660 For me this was the issue... but not necessary in the way u described it lol. I didn't gel with the whole hybrid arc and the whole "12 and Clara are toxic together"... both from storytelling point of view and also what fandom often says is the point of s8 and 9. I love 12 and Clara together... but they are no more toxic than some other Doctor and companion relationships... Rose and 10 were toxic, their behaviour led to Torchwood existing, it was the reason 10 was a d**k to Martha... and as best friends 10 and Donna were, their relationship ending led to Water of Mars...and well 12 saving Ashildr... And that's what I struggle with... cos the ending to 12 and Clara is being sold as Missy putting two "control freak toxic" people together so chaos can ensue and therefore this relationship "needs to come to end"... but both of their so called toxic behaviours can be explained away as quite normal reactions from grief and trauma, (well as Normal if you lived in a universe time travel and time lords lol)... Clara's from Danny's death, and The Doctor's from Clara's death and then billion years of torture by the Time Lords.. I'd say 10's behaviour was way more toxic cos his came out of ego...he was proud of what he did...12 wasn't... he was just desperate to save Clara and angry at what the Time Lords did... I love the depth of Clara and 12s characters...but I hate that it's often described as Toxic when other Doctors and companions have done much worse.. like for example ME exists more cos of Donna who the 12th Doctor remembered... not Clara 😄 she never asked him to bring back Ashildr...im fact she tried to tell him that he had done all he could... this was also why I wasn't sold on the idea of the Doctor trying to memory wipe Clara... I'm glad he ended up being punished for making that choice... but the reason he was giving just didn't sell for me. Two reasons presented that he went too far, and the Time Lords may find her... both "threats" were not immediate, cos well Clara is off travelling, and will decide herself when she goes back, and the Doctor already recognised he had gone too far by saving her. They did indeed have an unhealthy dependency on each other...but again nothing new... Clara also had positive impact on the Doctor... look at how much he softens over the 2 series... and ofcourse Clara is the one who convinced 11 to save gallifrey, and then convinced the Time Lords to save the Doctor in Time of the Doctor... so this is why I just cannot get behind the reasons given why these two could no longer travel together... so I wud have preferred the Raven ending ... or last Christmas with old Clara (omg that's such a beautiful moment). Sorry for the long reply... your comment just reminded me about the issues I have with the arc... despite enjoying 12th Doctor era very much 😁

"Is this the same barn from uh Day of the Doctor? Oh no, it's the uh... This is the one from that episode, series 8." They're the same barn, Hamza. The barn in Hell Bent, Day of the Doctor, & Listen are the same barn. I do like the parallel/references this has with the 10th Doctor's specials. When he shouted at Clara, when he says the Universe doesn't have a say anymore, that's very Time Lord Victorious. 4 knocks? We all know that reference! Clara's final message to the Doctor to remember to be the Doctor acts as a nice brake for the Doctor from becoming Time Lord Victorious. Now that heart-to-heart moment between the Doctor & Clara? Absolutely beautiful & heart-wrenching

This is still my 2nd all time favorite Doctor Who episode, sue me! 😅 I recently rewatched it, it is SO beautiful, the bond between 12 and Clara is one of a kind and it makes me cry everytime. It's poetic, it's brilliant, the acting, the visuals and the music are all outstanding. I think this episode gets a very bad rep, because quite frankly, I think people back in the day were all just too excited to finally get some more Gallifrey stuff and they felt robbed because Moffat basically just skipped over it. 🤭 But here's the thing: What would YOU have done with Gallifrey? Hoe would YOU have resolved all the other open plotlines? In my humble opinion, you should always rate something for what it IS and not for all the stuff it COULD HAVE BEEN in your imagination.....
@medafan53
@medafan53 6 месяцев назад
In case you missed it, it is implied that Clara and Ashilder's TARDIS is in fact the Diner from The Impossible Astronaut. It does raise questions since the cupboard that hides the console room in this episode was an actuall cupboard in which the Doctor's TARDIS materialised in Impossible Astronaut, although it is possible that with a more complex outer shell like a Diner they can move the entrance to the interior around, for variety, or perhaps to better conceal it since it isn't accessable for customers if they are posing as a real diner. The one thing that I stick on is, why does what is presumably a far newer TARDIS than the Doctor's Type 40, which was a meuseum peice when he stole it centuries ago, have the same default desktop theme? You'd think the Time Lords would have refirned the design a bit as they continued refining their capsules.

Everything I loved about the relationship of 12 and Clara is perfectly concluded in this episode. I'm glad you also liked it. I think it's a great companion farewell and I love that Clara is so much like the doctor that she even "reverses the polarity" and takes control of her farewell. Bringing the musical Clara theme from the soundtrack into the actual story is also a beautiful treat and when I rewatched Asylum of the Daleks after seeing all of Clara's storyline and we hear Clara's theme for the first time it really moved me. And the epic return of the Doctor to Gallifrey with all its consequences is the perfect foundation for the emotional ending. Perfect finale.

It’s not clear if he remembers it in the same way as a regular time lord timeline. The line in heaven sent, where he gets to the end and remembers the previous attempts shows he does remember but it is a time loop more or less. I took it as not quite the same as living billions of years, but rather looped for billions of years. All of it happened in the confession dial, not outside it.

Regarding the whole thing about Ncuti Gatwa potentially getting more than three seasons, which is unconfirmed as of now, his seasons are only going to be 8 episodes as opposed to 13, 12 or 10, which other seasons have done, so three of his seasons would be equivalent to two of Capaldi’s, episode wise. Tbf that Dinner was in Roald Dahl Plass (same area where Torchwood Hub/the Rift was set & the Cardiff scenes in Doctor Who was set) was in real life, though it closed down soon after this. Like Moffat has said The Hybrid=Doctor & Clara, but tbf they dont fully fit the prophecy and neither do the other hybrids that S9 and/or the fans (other hybrids in the whoniverse who didnt show up in revival S9) have chalked up to being The Hybrid. Without spoiling anything, Class is very underrated. Like if SJA was targeted at Primary School Children, Doctor Who is targeted at everyone & Torchwood was targeted at adults. For me it was a great and interesting episode and it was exciting up until the point Clara arrived that ruined it for me i was happy enough with her ending in "Face the Raven" to undo it felt like a real cop-out with Moffat if your going to kill a character off just kill them off don't muck with it I was more interested in the Doctor and Rassilon dynamic and it felt it got resolved far too quickly but you know it is what it is I'm glad you enjoyed it however. Speaking of Ncuti Gatwa about how long he may or may not last as the Doctor to be honest I hope he sticks around for than 3 seasons because I feel like 3 seasons is becoming abit too predictable and obvious and not long enough I feel he should do atleast one more season after his first three it would just be a nice change.

I'll admit that I was a bit disappointed with this one the first time round, but I've definitely come round on it on subsequent re-watches. Initially, a lot of what I didn't like was that I wasn't a huge fan of Clara's return because I felt like Face the Raven was the logical end to her story/character arc. But Hell Bent isn't about Clara, really - it's very much about the Doctor, and viewing it under that lens makes me enjoy it a lot more.

I had a feeling you’d like this one! Most of us, seeing spoilers about waitress Clara, assumed she was one of the splinter Clara’s like dalek clara or Victorian Clara. So we were surprised. I didn’t like this episode as much as Heaven Sent, possibly because Rassilon wasn’t Timothy Dalton any more. But I could see that powerful mythic time lord (Rassilon) was reduced by war to a bitter old man. I rather liked that the Doctor ended up Donna-ing himself. I always hated what he did to Donna. Of course Moffat couldn’t just kill Clara. We know she will die but he gave her more time just like Amy and Rory. The hybrid thing…it’s actually kinda cool that the timelords were in a panic from misunderstanding a vague prophecy. Ashilder was standing in the ruins of gallifrey (as were the doctor and Clara) but this didn’t mean “the hybrid” destroyed it. They just got there after it’s over. I watched about five minutes of class and had the “woman who lived” reaction you had and turned it off, never looking back😀

I think I would’ve preferred them having the guy who played Rassilon in end of time that being said someone commented that an explanation is that he regenerates because the master beats him in that scene when he attacks Rassilon, causing him to regenerate. Well it’s all subjective. I know a lot of people dislike the next era but a lot of people also like it. I hope I do :)

I am not a fan of this one whatsoever. The sexist comment after the regeneration alone left a bad taste but more importantly this was a cop out of Clara's death exit. Bring her back and give her a time machine where she is effectively immortal until she returns to that point in time...she should have stayed dead from face the raven and not return here.

I get the hate on the TARDIS thing, but all things were pointing to her being resurrected. Not only in this episode, but also the 12 and Clara's tenure as a whole up to that point. You have to think that Clara was chosen for the Doctor by the Master and she paired them up. "Because it's perfect, isn't it?" The Doctor and the Master's perspectives of 'perfect' are different. Also, the aspect that the Doctor hates endings. He just witnessed his companion go to her death and was immediately transported into his own hell. I'm sorry, but anyone saying he got over grief by the end of Heaven Sent is deluded. He was dealing with grief, but didn't get over it. Hell Bent is his wake up call.

I disagree about the Clara death. Didn’t really feel anything when she died in Face the raven. But I loved their farewell in hell bent, it was really sad. But I understand why you feel that way :)

@@thepandorica1660 all new who companion deaths are a cop out. Which is a reason people are fed up of it here Jack - Become Immortal Rose's "Death" - trapped in a parallel world Donna's "Death" - Memories erased Rory - Becomes an Auton then universe reset Amy and Rory - Zapped to the past where and died old Clara - Her raven death undone so shes immortal until she does there. Like it's kinda annoying they always undo it. Yet if one died in classic who - They stayed dead.
