I have watched all the Doctors now and all I can say is Tom Baker definitely deserved a BAFTA as well. Maybe the award wasn't around yet. I don't know. Tom was certainly more then brilliant enough in the role to win one.

Yeah. I'm only somewhat-versed in physics and it makes sense to me. Essentially, if Einsteinian Relativity is correct, then things traveling infinitely close to the speed of light can witness the time of the universe surrounding them happening very quickly while it practically slows for them (things traveling at the speed of light would register all time outside of their reference frame as an instant). So traveling quick gets you to future. But there's no way to go back.

As for Confidential, there's some sort of blanket copyright thing where they can use any clip or song they want as long as it doesn't appear in the cut-down version on the DVD boxset.

That is actually a really good point. I suppose as he is the last one left he can call himself president. He can also call himself castellan and lord chancellor too if he wanted. I always thought of the president elect line as kind of an honorary thing like former american presidents still being referred to as Mr president after they have stepped down. (But I could well be wrong about that bit)

It's not only "two" episodes. Since the Doctor accepts the name and since even the credits list him as "Dr. Who" (not "Doctor Who" spelled out, "Dr. Who"!) from the beginning (the very first episode, even), it truly is one of his names, even if its not his "real" name.
@RiverTSmith

There are some mistakes here. He is called The Doctor or just Doctor, not Doctor Who. And Graham says "Doctor Who's new assistant and with HIM, the only person to fully understand the gravity of the situation, Professor Brian Cox.

Thank you! Why the bloody hell do people keep referring to him as "Doctor Who"? Say what you want about Colin Baker's ill fated era as the 6th Doctor, but he said it enough times that it should have sunken in... "This lovely young woman is 'Peri' and I am known as 'The Doctor'".

+RiverTSmith Well the credits for the first doctor referred to him as doctor who so there's that.

Mkoijn3 Actually, the credits for the first *four* _Doctors_ all said doctor who (_Dr. Who_ early on and _Doctor Who_ in the latter years). It wasn't until Tom Baker's final season that someone (presumably John Nathan Turner) decided to correct this and change it to *_"The Doctor"_*.

Credited to Terry Nation, but much of it was rewritten by Adams the script editor, such as the opening regeneration, the Doctor's joke with the book describing the beginning of the universe and the why-don't-you-climb-after-us?? joke.

I haven't watched every single episode (do you know how hard that is if you didn't previously own them and don't have Netflix?), but I've seen enough to know it's both. Just be happy in knowing you're right, and that the other half is right too. And what's wrong with a middle? It's a middle that everyone can be happy with because everyone is right!
@AnnaBellaChannel

The Doctor describes himself to Davros in the Remembrance of the Daleks as "President Elect of the High Council of Time Lords". While the Doctor did become President in The Deadly Assassin, assumed the role in The Invasion of Time and was appointed once again as President in The Five Doctors, by the time of his sixth incarnation's trial in The Trial of a Time Lord he had been removed from office. But as he is the Last Time Lord therefore he is president by default.

@theatergeak101
@theatergeak101 11 лет назад
They make an argument later that the word "doctor" means what it does today because of him. So he could easily have started off selfish but as he grew and matured he did begin to help people and so forth and thus he didn't choose the name because it meant that but it grew to mean that because he chose it. I loved that explanation when they brought it up in the series.

Because David was a die hard fan and wanted it corrected. He is The Doctor, his true name has never been uttered, he has used the allias "John Smith" and nicknames from old academy friends, and was referd to as Dr Foreman by Ian who thought that he shared the same surname as his grandaughter Susan, but in the show itself, he is NEVER refered to as Dr Who by any character, except once due to a script error.

Jenna Coleman the definition of perky meets Brian Cox the definition of boyish wonder. Actually, within the actual show, sometimes, in the credits, it would be that "so and so (I'm not sure which Doctors this happened with) as Doctor Who" in not just the movies. Like I said before, it really depended on the preference of the show writer. Sometimes, he called himself that just because he was saying there was no real answer, and other times, he'd say "just the Doctor" to get people to quit asking. They're both right, and that's one of the wonderful things about this show.

To really miff/confuse, i sometimes refer to "Doctor Spock" and "Mr. Who" ... But,to those who really love CYFI; in its many manifestations... no diff than "Professor Snape" rendered as "Professor Rogue" in French... Regardless it still does NOT detract from the literary and emotional weight of... "Captain, Edith Keeler must die." -or "I did my duty for Queen and Country." -or "Your eyes. Let me see your eyes." -or "I've always loved you." We are creatures composed of words -r.

It's a bit of a stretch, but I hope they merge all the themes together or pay homage to the classic doctor who theme in the intro. It starts off with the music we're all familiar with, but by the "OOH-WEE-OOH" it changes to the classic 1960's version. Just thoughts from a dreamer.

OKAY! WHOVIANS SHOULD NOT BE FIGHTING! Now, let me explain to satisfy ALL parties! He is called the Doctor and Doctor Who. There have been many show writers over the years, and each one has had their preference of his name. Some of them referred to him as Doctor Who and other who wrote for the show simply called him the Doctor. In this, both are right. It really depends on the person and which versions of the show they have watched. is everyone happy with that?

Yes, the Doctor is his other name as well as being the Doctor at all times, hence the dark Doctor . I think that John is from the time war when the Doctor had to use his real name. Remember the Doctor still is the President of Gallifrey! The Doctor is the name he chose to use but he still is his real name as well at the same time . He just chooses not to use it. Like Tom Riddle is the Dark Lord Voldemort but at the same time he is Tom Riddle! Hope this helps.
