This was directed by Morris Barry, who was one of my teachers at Media College back in the 80s. I found him a true gentleman of the old school: unfailingly polite;spoke extremely well, without ever using crude language;dressed very formally (waist coat;a watch on a chain etc); and was always elegant in his appearance (neatly trimmed moustache;well cut white hair). A true British gentleman; of the kind that don't really exist any more.
There are things you have to remember about Classic Who. First. Because the TV Screen size was small, 4:3, the Actors had to act differently than on a Stage or Movie. That is why the First Doctor was always holding his lapels. Second. There was nothing quite like Doctor Who on TV. Some of the stories were genuinely terryifing. It wasn't just the only TV Programme allowed to break the Watershed rules, it was expected.
