When I first saw the Gentlemen in Buffy, I thought. WOW !! They are amazing & damn scary too. Well done in bringing them back. They certainly still have the scar factor :) Another great show !! Well done :)
Want to say that Lilly & Company have every right to wedge their thumbs firmly under their suspenders. The Ginger Chronicles is fun Sci Fi laced with whimsy, hope and intrigue; in other words, it’s DOCTOR WHO. The series is hugely better than the official BBC article - which is (at best) a dull, ham fisted, agenda-ridden mess these days. A LOUD HUSH, your second episode, has evident chemistry between the cast, better sound-recording, and real enthusiasm all around. It’s wonderfully engaging. Please make more.
Very professional and a lot of fun. Having said this, the script does make the same fundamental error that was made in Disney's The Little Mermaid. One can lose one's voice, but still communicate through whispering. Of course, if the main characters in both realized this, there would be no difficulty so integral to the story. But it does beg the question of how characters so desperate to speak never think of it.
I really like this episode. I think it's actually better than the pilot. Lilly as the Doctor is amazing as always. Jim and Liz are growing on me and becoming a likable pair of companions for the Doctor. I also liked how you explained Jim's different look and didn't just overlook it but made it part of the story. I felt bad for Liz on the realization her husband is going to look different forever. I also like how it wasn't dealt with in just 5 minutes but took to the end of the episode for them to come back together. The Gentlemen and their minions (funny Despicable Me reference there) are creepy as all get-out! Their smiles are just unnerving and they make a fantastic foe for the Doctor. I also liked the Ghostbusters reference when Liz got "slimed". All in all, a great episode.
This is leaps and bounds better than A Dame to Kill. Villain-wise, while the Master had good banter, he failed in other areas like menace and Evil Plan. These "gentleman" are genuinely creepy and threatening, and their Evil Plan more solid. The companions are also much improved; Jim's face-changing had good drama and the pair of them felt more...integrated. If anything, Lily Nelson is better as the Doctor as well. As for the audio, I found it easier to hear.
This episode was good (though not as great as the first one in my opinion) but the Gentlemen aren't an original concept, they original appeared on Buffy The Vampire Slayer in 1999 and there are several references to that in the episode. They were portrayed spot on in this though which is an incredible testament to acting and writing done by these wonderful people.
I really enjoyed this episode. I really did. The costumes, the acting, everything. But I got so distracted by the audio. The entire film's audio was ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording), which made the audio too consistent. At times the audio was also noticeably out of sync with the video. For future reference ADR is only necessary if the audio you captured on set was completely unusable. I loved the story and the whole "Jim changing face" thing. I thought that was a great way to work around having a new actor. Lilly Nelson was, again, brilliant, and I think she'll always be a great Doctor. The gentlemen genuinely sent shivers down my spine, and A Loud Hush is certainly a step up from A Dame to Kill. Just remember to get either better mics, or more sound-friendly locations.
+JellyBabyProductions Hey! Yeah, this is Lilly. Thanks for watching. Thanks for you praise. We were sorry to see Monte go, but we are very happy to have Michael. I do feel I need to address the ADR, since it is an issue we are hearing. We used professional mics and very sound-friendly locations when we knew we were going to have dialogue. We checked and re-checked the sound files to make sure the sound was good on site. After shooting we had great recording and would have actually had sound with zero need for ADR. When the time came in editing to sync the sound we recorded, it didn't work. We went into the sound files and ALL THE FILES WERE GONE(corrupted). And, since we have a crew that does this for a living, they tried everything to get them back. It was just not going to happen. So now we have over 36 hours of footage with no dialogue. We weren't going to be able to reshoot, we just don't have that kind of budget and many locations were hard to schedule in the first place. So we found someone who let us use their professional studio for three days to record everything we needed. The camera sound was entirely unusable for anything but a sampling of what we needed to say. If anything, now we are going to bring two sets of sound gear to make sure if one goes bye bye, the other will still be intact. It made us sick to lose that hard work, but sometimes it just happens, and we did our best with a bad situation. Thanks for watching, and we hope to entertain you in the future.
+Lilly Nelson after posting my comment i thought that could be a likely option. I'm glad you guys worked around it, this was a great episode and I can't wait to see the next one. Good luck you guys!
+JellyBabyProductions Hi There, Alex here (Sound design) yes... I agree with you, most assuredly! I came into the project after it had been shot, and tried my best with what they had. The production team, as Lilly said, has a plan going forward. Thanks for the input, and constructive crits, that is most appreciated and a welcome change to trolls that shoot down your efforts. Excited for episode 3, and making it even better!Cheers,Alex
+Alex McDonald Hey Alex. Jeez... I didn't expect this much attention. As a fellow filmmaker I can see that you, Lilly and all the cast and crew truly care about this production, and I'm definitely considering sponsoring you guys for your next episode, and the episodes to come. Thanks guys.
+JellyBabyProductions thanks so much! Please let your fellow Whovians know about us! discussing production with fellow film makers is always easy, we all want the same thing, create the best possible product. Have a great weekend!
Can you put Episodes 1 and 2 together for a playlist? I'd like to share on Facebook to get my Whovian friends interested. But would like for them to watch these back-to-back. I had to search for this one.
You'll be pleased to know that a female Doctor has officially been cast. 35 year-old Jodi Whittaker has been cast as the thirteenth Doctor filling the shoes of Peter Capaldi making her the first woman in the show's 50 year history. I wish her luck.
well that was amazing, you videos always are inspiring, and i loved episode one as i do this one, however i do feel the lack of voices started to get annoying especially in contrast to the epic visual creepiness of the 'gentleman' nice work tho
When we get the money. We tried Kickstarter and got less than $500 and we need about $5000 to make an episode. So when the fans donate, we can get it going.
