My ER doctor's mistake: I thought I was losing amniotic fluid at 20 weeks pregnant. She confirmed. I had this problem with my first pregnancy. She couldn't find a heartbeat. She wanted to start a termination so I could be out of there by morning and go home. My husband and I refused. We wanted to see our regular doctor. She left us alone. In the morning my doc found the heartbeat first thing. He put me on bed rest. She apologized and said she had been working all weekend (it was Monday). She was fired not long after for similar mistakes. My son is now 12.

I used to run stress tests and I remember an instance of telling the cardiologist that the guy I just ran’s blood pressure was higher than I expected(it’s normal for BP to be elevated after a stress test for a few minutes) but I was concerned because it wasn’t coming down and the dr said to just let him rest-nothing-and so finally the doctor ordered some blood pressure meds for him and it came down a bit and the dr cleared him to go home. He walked out the door and dropped dead from aortic dissection. I’ll never forget that. He was just telling me how his wife had passed about 3 months earlier from a stroke so I like to think they’re reunited. Idk how much of a mistake this was so much as it was a huuuge oversight

The one about the drunk reminded me of an episode of House where he reminded his students that sometimes people with drug seeking behaviour might actually need the drugs this time.

Surprised my story isn’t in here. Went to a hospital with obvious signs of severe infection. They were convinced it was a bad flu. The ER draws blood cultures (to test for bacteria in the blood) and sent me up to a room since the cultures take a while to grow. One culture came back positive for MRSA (not good) and the other didn’t grow anything significant. Because one was negative they claimed the first one was just a “lab contamination”. Fun fact for anyone actually reading this: official policy and procedure is that once any blood culture comes back positive you start antibiotics asap.they were about to discharge me when I complained of chest pain so they did an X-ray. Turns out I had full on endocarditis with septic emboli to my lungs, liver and kidneys. Just clumps of deadly bacteria flowing through my entire body sticking to all my organs. I honestly don’t know how I’m alive rn but I almost died a lot and was really sick for a really long time all because the doctors didn’t follow protocol

It's a fabricated story, do you really think half of the population in israel doesnt get medical service? In Judaism saving a life overrides every and any other commandment, that's why they work on Saturdays too

My wife use to work in the er in my town at the front desk. I would bring her dinner or a drink almost nightly. Several times there would be a guy in there asleep and snoring. After a few times, I asked my wife what was up with that guy. She said that he would come in because of pain in his lower back and he couldn't sleep. The dr would dismiss him as a drug seeker. After a while, I didn't see him up there anymore and asked my wife what happened to him. She said he died from kidney failure. Doesn't surprise me that it happened. There use to be a dr there that killed someone by pushing a drug that the patient was allergic to. The nurse knew that it would kill the patient and refused, so the dr did it himself. Same er dismissed me a few years ago. I went in due to pain from lyme disease. It was unbearable. But the er dr probably thought I was a drug seeker. I can tell you that pain from the lyme disease was the worst pain I've ever been in. But thanks to lyme disease, it triggered rheumatoid arthritis. So now I'm in daily pain. When it flares, it can be as minor as not being able to move my fingers to a major flare which leaves me bedridden until the flare subsides

For the incorrect insulin story I am assuming the patient needed bolus insulin (fast acting, used before eating) but were given basil insulin (long acting, used to maintain the sugar naturally produced by the liver) Basil insulin when bolus is needed will not affect blood sugar very much Of course I could be wrong. I’m not a doctor and I didn’t see the patient Source: Type 1 diabetic

7:44 Oh come on. Why don't doctors have time limits? Why do people with OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES LITERALLY IN THEIR HANDS work such long days?
@danis5255
@danis5255 3 года назад
I do know that one reason is because long hours reduces the number of patient information hand-off, and with that logic it would reduce room for error. However, I don’t think that’s necessarily good logic, because obviously tired physicians can easily handoff wrong information.

I just want to say I am happy that A.I. is starting to lead the way to better diagnosis and treatment than doctors. Doctors over time become biased, arrogant, and complacent. They can't say they are wrong and leads to many mistakes. The A.I. removes those elements and gets to the root elements. Given that a patient has these problems, it is likely this... No need for human element that can sometimes muddy up the diagnosis. "oh you are too young to have X" Stupid humans. Also if the U.S.A didn't have a sham of a healthcare system, maybe better diagnosis would also occur.

not a doctor but someone who's life was risked multiple times due to misdiagnosis because "does THC = psychosis", it was iodine induced hyperthyroid/thyrotoxic state followed by hypothyroid state. I had prolonged iodine deficiency which caused "Jod-Basedow", a paradoxical/opposite reaction to iodine, and didn't have increased hunger as a symptom because I was taking a tolerance break at the time, which caused decreased hunger.
