University of Cincinnati graduate Earl Hamnder returned to his alma matter to deliver the commencement address. Hamner is best known for creating "The Waltons."
I am early 71 years old and have been watching the Waltons again and again for nearly 50 years! I have been to Mr. Hamner's home town several times. Thank you, Earl; you have blessed my life and soul!
What an amazing, kind and brilliant man. He is sadly missed but not forgotten. As a child growing up in the late 60's and early 70's the Waltons echoed my childhood and the family values that my parents also instilled in us. I was allowed to watch two shows; The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie and it didn't do me any harm not to have watched all the garbage that on TV at that time. Good, clean values and love of family and being taught right from wrong.
Earl was in his time and ahead of his time. I recently injured my leg and unable to walk I spend many hours watching the Walton's growing up I had to be in bed so I am loving John Boy and family. If I had the opportunity to meet the real John Boy I would tell him how much I enjoy your words and what an impact it has had on people you will NEVER KNOW. When I visit my brother in Fairfax VA I am tempted to visit his hometown and I live in South Central Los Angeles. Forever a fan.
The Waltons and Little House on the Prairie, were fantastic building blocks for life. Certainly made an impression on this young mind and I'm sure many thousands of others. Thanks Earl.
I grew up wishing I was part of this family and still watch it today as an adult. If children today could only grasp a speck of this true family life and helping one another what a wonderful world it could be 🌾
Isn't it amazing how Susan Sullivan also worked at NBC when she played Lenore Curtin #2 on Another World from 1971-1976. She was also College Roomates with Robin Strasser (Ex-Rachel #1) but I don't think they worked together.
