There's another Documentary here on YT that goes into great detail about PRECISELY this! The inner workings are explained and shows in their grand and beautifully intricate detail. Highly suggest. I watched it before coming here.

8:53 The insertion of such a device into the bum is uncalled for even a military doctor. At least buy the gentleman a drink!

The creepiest one was the dude in a big hat with a monster coming out of his belly. The most realistic was the scribe. I wonder if there are people still making automatons?

Although automaton makers are few and far between, spread thinly across the globe, there are many online communities where the congregate. Although, through my quick looking at them most are posted in French, so, unless you understand that language, Goodluck trying to interact. Lol.

May be the scary face originally had a mask of e.g. latex that crumbled apart across centuries. But the concept is still eerie (may it symbolize a ventriloquist?).

I think this is when Drs would blow tobacco smoke into the rectum to cleanse out whatever was ailing the patient! Yes, I read about this before in historical medical procedures ! Crazy, huh?!!!

So did watch makers make these for fun, or was it a niche thing? I love to watch vids of tourbillion constructions, especially the high end ones, so i was just wondering if it was in the similar vein

the clown playing the broom blinks. so realistic. this has also been brought up a lot for AI - both high tech and for toys. humans always do the most with what they have to work with from tools made from stone to bronze to steel. from sewing with a punch to a needle to a sewing machine.

I think about motion without energy.Automata that give life to other Automata rotate continuously and non-stop...What do you think????

The Little Tisch seems more modern as there was a British comedian by the same name in the 20th Century I think. Unless the performer took his inspiration from this Automaton. All the male Automatons seemed very creepy in facial features. The lady playing the mandolin looked pretty normal as far as facial features and dress.

I guess you have to be from the time period and the region to understand why clowns with automated tongues was a thing. I appreciate the mechanical aspect of these devices.
@facelessdrone
@facelessdrone 11 месяцев назад
Easy to do mechanically i'd guess, and also back then it was a common gesture of silliness/childish playfulness, which would be expected of a clown. You can see a famous example of this in Einstein's most famous portrait, in an attempt to "ruin" the photo, he stuck out his tongue to embarrass the photographer by making the photo look "unprofessional", since Einstein was born in 1879, he would've grown up in 1880s and 1890s, meaning that he was using a cultural gesture learned from his childhood in germany(which undoubtedly had contact with Switzerland and France who were all tied economically at the time) and so, realistically, this childish gesture was shared commonly throughout those regions of Europe and would be an obvious choice for the whimsical automatons to invoke the same feelings in their audience.
