I have a Voodoo Lab Overdrive from 1998, based on the DOD 250. That generation of Voodoo pedals had a faulty circuit which was jokingly called by them the "Sullivan mod," named after the tech who was supposedly responsible for the error. The pedal had a huge, flubby bass response that made it unusable. I read on a pedal forum that Voodoo could and would fix that error. I sent it back to them, 15 years after I had purchased the pedal, with the knowledge of what had happened. They remembered the "Sullivan mod," and found it funny that I even knew about that. Then, they fixed the bad circuit and got the pedal back to its original sound, free of charge. I love the Voodoo Lab people. They did me and my pedal right.

I wonder if there will be a show on the Tom Sholtz Rockman. It’s not a pedal, but it was on a stack of recording and certainly influenced a lot of players tone/timbre.

People don’t understand how powerful the IStomp was. It has the processing power of a multi effect put behind one effect. That’s why the dirt and overdrive algorithms didn’t sound digital. There were also hidden features with the 2 outputs. Since every effect didn’t need to be in stereo that had other routing features for the inputs and outputs. Again, the sounds were fantastic.

Slept on and I miss it so much back when the iPhone had the og charging port. Was a great pedal in my guitar beginning to try every effect. It sold me on the dynacomp and now I have a script on my board :)

I dont own any JHS pedals, I'm buying one of the normal manufacturer overdrive preamps and you've totally earned my approval by doing all this, helping Mr. Cran's Spiral FX, giving it exposure and putting the smack down on the "it's just a MXR distortion +"

Josh, I actually like that a company would put out a pedal even knowing that it won't sell well, or at least as well as something else you could have put out.

In a world of Demo channels (that also have podcasts) they stand out. They were ahead of the curve. More than once, they've been the only demo channel playing an old piece of gear w/ any production value. I found them by looking for a demo for the Boss Digital Metalizer (a pedal that most of the time only gets pooped on if it gets mentioned).

I bought what I thought was my first 250 pedal a couple of years ago (the Tom Cram era version), but from today's video I learned that, in fact, I have had a 250 variation for close to twenty years. I'm talking about that HAO Sole Pressure that, unfortunately, Josh couldn't get to work for the video. This was my favorite overdrive for many years, so I was excited to see it on the table. Hope Josh can get it to work. I think he'll like it.

The FX52 is severely underrated, probably because it doesn't really sound like classic fuzz and that disappoints people who are looking for that sound. It is, however, the sound of Ash Bowie from Polvo, as well as Rainer Maria and other 90s indie acts. It can go anywhere from tame overdrive to gnarly fuzz-tinged distortion. Really unique pedal.

I realize that I’m late to the conversation, but you can kind of think of grey matter as the components in a circuit (op-amp, diodes, caps, etc) and the wires and insulating material as the white matter. Grey matter = areas where signal gets processed; white matter = components that aid in passing along that signal.

RECORD TIME SUGGESTION: HUM’s “You’d Prefer An Astronaut” Please check it out if you haven’t. This album takes “shoegaze” and smashes it with walls of trippy driven guitars, backed by unique, jaw dropping, drums. It a perfect use of the “shades of colors” sound, and “beautiful quiet to heavy” formula. It blows me away, thinking that, after 20 something years of listening to this album, Im still hearing these new little sound and textures. To this day, they’re still so influential to me and countless others..

Fwiw what they’re getting at with the “‘max bass” thing is that in not highpassing at all, the energy of the largest low wage forms still influences what brings a diode to clip. Eventually you’re talking about like. Sub 30hz well below what any guitar is reproducing as a fundamental tone (low E is 80hz, tbh you’re probably not hearing that as a fundamental through the amp either). But! you still have energy in those frequencies (look at any di guitar signal in a daw spectrum analyzer). What drives a diode to clip isn’t the max point of a frequency spectrum but the total energy it’s receiving. With this in mind; it makes total sense the clipping response would be noticable toggling between two setting that would perhaps be unnoticeable going into an amp (because the amp would definitely highpass that regardless)

I've been a committed DOD 250 user for decades now. I haven't seen too much love for the Pelican NoiseWorks 50/50 in the comments here or in the other JHS 250 video. When it comes to usability and also flexibility for different guitars, nothing beats this pedal. Single coils, humbuckers, P-90's... this pedal makes it so easy and quick to accomodate all those. One side is symmetrical clipping for more compression, saturated lead stuff, one side has asymmetrical clipping for more of the "cranked amp" sound. Tone switches for darker/brighter tones. And it's so small... It's the greatest swiss army 250 type overdrive pedal. Jah Bless Pelican NoiseWorks

Grey matter is the cell bodies (main parts) of nerves, so the parts where most of the biological processes take place. White matter is the myelin sheaths, they are fatty wrappings around nerve axons that allow nerve signals to travel long distances. Grey matter is like a battery and white matter is the insulation around a wire. The thing in physics you mentioned is called dark matter (like the TC electronic dark matter distortion)

I never comment on RU-vid videos, but I'd be remiss if I didn't chime in that, when used on bass, the FX52, to my ears, gets closer to McCartney's "Mean Mr. Mustard" tone than any fuzz pedal I've tried in the 'less than $100' price range. I've also recently noticed that it's pretty touch sensitive as well, so it can also pull off the clean-into-fuzz-when-pushed bass tone of the preceding track on 'Abbey Road', "Sun King". I'm not in a Beatles tribute band or anything; I'm just a nerd. If you've never heard these isolated: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ceNvbYZ2p8o.html
