Your wheel is amazing. You might like to know that some spinners have success with drive bands that are made of necklace making cord. The kind I have been told about is rubbery and a little stretchy and comes with inserts that join the ends. That must mean it is actually a tube. My original Louet band is still working after years and years but this looks to be a good alternative when the time comes. This trick was passed on to me from a Louet dealer!

Did you predrill the holes for the screws? Driving a screw without predrilling is a common cause of splits. However, with any decent adhesive (even the cheapest wood glue) and good joints, other fasteners (nails, screws, brads, staples) are typically unnecessary.
