I dropped a nut into the frame rail of my jeep, I know I'm never seeing it again. I don't blame myself, who thinks its a good idea to put a nut in the frame rail in the first place. Its just an accident waiting to happen. I was even ready, had my magnet pen next to the nut just in case it wanted to run away on me, and sneaked passed anyway.
Spring clamps and an enema. Nothing like a wonderful Friday afternoon. Your channel always offers inspiration & perspiration, w/o the constipation...anymore! thank you
That's cool, my wife has a 2012 Dodge Journey (almost the same color), I'm not a fan but she loves it & you know what they say; happy wife means she'll leave me the hell alone...or something like that!
I had a pontiac silhouette for a company vehicle. LOVED it....remote opening side doors, plenty of room, if I was on a long road trip lots of sleeping area in the back (shipping blankets make great mattress pads)....I went to NH with a buddy and got stopped on the highway for 5 hrs due to a bad accident, opened the side door, put on the tunes, got out the cooler and frisbees, had a great time.
You make it look easy. If I attempted a rack replacement it would be a marathon with lots of swearing and bloodied knuckles and neighbors that wouldn't talk to me anymore. Always enjoy your video's.
It seems kind of odd to not see you repairing a damaged vehicle, but this video was super informative (plus the fact that your dry sense of humor makes any video you do worthwhile watching).
It's pretty cool to see you do mechanic stuff not associated with door removal. I thought the rack and pinion steering replacement was a nightmare job, you make it look easy enough that even Brandon could do it, well maybe not..
GM X bodies (Citation) used to suffer from this when cold, called it power steering morning sickness. The spool valve (steel) would wear its housing (aluminum) and not want to function until the fluid was warm. Then you could turn both directions. Not sure why this one binds all the time in one direction, but something in the hydraulics is unhappy.
Great fix, amazed it came apart that easy. Interesting content as always, mixed with wry humour. Have a great weekend with the pizza girl! Best wishes from the UK 🇬🇧
Wow.. a dodge.. well if this isn't off the beating path for you Scott. Well I'm making popcorn.. are we gonna get a thriller, oh wait no a comedy, no no we are in for thee best repair man out there. Stay safe and be well. Have a great weekend.
A Masterpiece!! The ending completely subverted my expectations... I just never saw it coming. It won't be long before Disney hires you to write for the StarWars franchise!
😄😄😄. Love the videos, especially the commentary makes the videos that more enjoyable. I can see why you fill up the haters tears bottle so quickly. 😄😄 keep the videos coming.
Timely....just changed the rack in my C6 Corvette race car...a bit more fight to get it out/in with the tight spaces...but fun stuff...I MUCH rather watch YOU do this job than I...hehe
@@vehcor in the 80s someone found metric screws use not enough sizes. Until then i've done the job with 10, 13, 17, 19, 24mm. Today all the gaps are closed.
Interesting repair, something different for a change. I see you have daylight saving there in Illinois, which has just ended for the year. That explains why we now get your video one hour later here in Queensland . Fortunately, we don't have daylight saving here in Queensland, otherwise we'd get your video two hours later like in other Australian states that have daylight saving. What happened with the Pontiac from four weeks back? Did you decide to repair it or part it out?
@@vehcor I always hated daylight saving when I lived in New South Wales. When it was on, I had to get up in the dark to go to work and go to bed with the sun still high in the sky. It was stupid and I hope they never bring it into Queensland,. Getting rid of it was one of the reasons we moved to Queensland.
im currently in the process of doing a complete frontend rebuild on my 85 chevy c10, upper and lower control arms, anti sway bar, inner and outer tierods with tierod sleeves, idler arm, pitman arm, springs, bushings, ball joints, everything. the old parts are the oem parts, its never been serviced, everything is 36 years old, all the ball joints were super loose in their sockets, i really dont know how the frontend hasnt given up yet, none of it wanted to come apart, took me 3 days just to do the 4 upper control arms and the 2 springs, im in the middle of the steering now, the 2 upper ball joints were assembled without carter pins despite being castle nut setups. the new oem springs lifted the frontend almost 2 inches and stiffened it up a ton, upgraded from stamped steel to tubular arms with poly bushings, upgraded the rear spring bushings to poly as well
Journeys have been and continue to be parked in family driveways, especially in the Eastern suburbs of Detroit where many Chrysler workers live and work. I would believe it was an inexpensive family driver, especially with a discount.
Hi I have a Ford F150 2018 with no 50,000 miles on it as the oil consumption problem Ford motor company knows of this problem so they’re doing an update with the longer dipstick and updating the computer still oil consumption with it they know the problem I was wondering what your thoughts were by the way I love watching your program keep up the good work
My 1991 Chevy G20 the steering got intermittently stiff and got worse over a few weeks. The culprit was a U-joint in the steering shaft. These vans have two, one at the box and one closer to the firewall. It must have been a known problem because in 92 or 93 GM added a sleeve over the end of the shaft and those are always clean inside. Of course they also changed the length of the shaft sections so you can't swap one to the older ones. I still have a spare I pulled when I was in North Carolina just to have on hand if I ever needed another.
Bought one after driving it a couple blocks because it was larger than the Jeeps and other small cars. Never had a problem with it until the day we paid it off but now it's always being worked on.
i love the Journey's i was a Chrysler tech for years , i know them and all their problems by heart their powertrain are great, they are also cheap to fix and very easy to work on... ppl say they are the worst junk ever but i think Traverse's/Outlook/Acadia/Enclave are way worst than Journey's
From a technical aspect, what determines an ugga-dugga or a click? And is it clicks/ugga-dugga or ugga-duggas/click? Thanks for the video! Convinced me that I never want to replace a r&p myself.
Nice job, Scott. You made a crappy job look easy. FCA vehicles are inexpensive and built that way. I must admit you had me going down the wrong path initially. "Only goes left, from Chicago, difficult to turn"......I thought it was something from the Mayor of Chicago's office or possibly the Cook County DA. Glad you clarified it was the car you were talking about. 😂
I’ve heard so many stories about Dodge Journeys from salesmen. It makes me wonder every time I see a journey on the road, “what did they do wrong to end up with one of those.” I’ve heard and seen upside down financing, 18% or more interest rates, etc.
funny, when you were using the impact to remove the steering rack bolts the guy in the garage next to my shop ran his at exactly the same time....HEY surround sound????? lol
Ditto on the whole Chrysler wanting to use the entire socket rack thing. I just recently finished installing an engine in a later model Town and Country minivan. That thing has FAR too many bolts, and FAR too many sizes! The things you say in the videos are echoed in the shop around here ALL DAY LONG.
If the seals in the rack fail in just the right way you can have a car that will turn left or right without you even touching the wheel. Sometimes when you try to turn in one direction they will violently turn all the way in that direction or even the opposite. Boeing had a few airplanes that wanted to try that trick.
The Dodge Journey deeply offends me. It's so deep down I can't really put it into words very well. Something about that car just rubs me the wrong way and I get very angry whenever I see one on the road. I want to destroy every single one I see. The dodge Journey is the only cart that makes me feel this way. This rant has nothing to do with your videos, I just have to give it every time I see one online. Keep up the good work.
Somehow I found Chrysler just love NASCAR so much that their rack and pinion built to easy turn left when it failed. I've changed GMs and Fords that usually lost its ability to keep the fluid in or completely loose and knocking.
I have a Journey right now. I did some rear suspension work and when I was finished I parked it and figured job well done. Customer takes it and messages me later, "you didn't fix the belt squeek noise?". I said I hadn't even heard that, and thats true. They brought it back to me and after they'd left I went and drive it. Oh I heard it alright... wow. I remember that time I was hunting and ended up being raped by a Buffalo, reminded me of my screams. So I look at the belt and it's just worn looking and of course everything in that area is oily and shitty from a leaking rear valve cover that hadn't been addressed in 27 years even though it's only a ten year old vehicle. The idler pulley didn't look to great or feel to great, so I figured this was the way to go. One belt, and one idle later. Love that bolt for the idle pulley the way. The engineer who designed that has definately heard his lady yell out, "deeper!", the bastard went full mandi go on that sh*t. All back together, still sounded like a blue haired multi pronoun goth chick at a BLM rally. Maybe I should have went rack right away, but I replaced the pump and the resivuor (fuck that word). Still screamed like a POS Dodge Journey. I mean right upon start up to. Made me want to walk away from my tools and join a Buddhist monk colony... only I'd want to practice all my martial arts on the Dodge Journey, which is strictly forbidden because you must remain silent in the temple Square, which the Journey is not. That Nighy as I lay in bed plotting the murder and disposal of the Journey, I was still thinking about there being a restriction of some kind, the cooler perhaps, a bent line, something... The resivuor I replace did have a lot of shit on the filter screen, but even the new unit hadn't increased the flow. Where I'm at. When I fire it up, it may not initially scream, and I can turn smooth in both directions slow until half turned in either direction, then she'll hit the high notes like Mariah Carrey after a throat punch. The rack ain't cheap, and I'd rather bend over and eat my own ass than replace a cooler for nothing... so... whatcha think? All other accessories on the belt system are good.
I suppose it would be quite a Journey if you could only go left. Nice work Scott! I rented one of those once, I am trying really hard to not mention what a piece of crap it was.
Vehcor... when you turned off the Dodge Journey, there was 3 knocking sounds. Was that part of the steering that was knocking or was it from the Engine? 0:33 Thank you
We have several of these in our fleet at my job. That clicking you hear is the electronic throttle body resetting itself after the engine is turned off. All of the 4cyl ones do this.
