So does my mom. She got it at a Carmax about 4 or more years ago used, and had to have the tranny replaced. It was still under warranty, which was a positive. Though a key was also lost, which sucked. It's got over 100k miles and is still going, but I'll fully admit it: I want the Magnum back.
I have an 07 Magnum SRT8 since new. I can't say enough how much I LOVE that car ! been VERY reliable & still rides great. I agree that it has been a missed opportunity for Dodge but sure hope they are willing to bring it back with all the new modern bells & whistles with the Hellcat. Great story & thanks!
I’ve tried to find another modern wagon that looks this good and it’s just not possible. But I wonder how close one could get by chopping and dropping a new Durango =0)
Years ago I was browsing the web for different call styles to kill time and I just happened to come across the Magnum for the first time and I immediately know I wanted one. The sheer concept of a 'muscle wagon' was so odd and different that I fell in love with the idea in general. Last year, I was finally able to get one and I have loved ever since. It has power to spare, it has room for my friends, it can carry loads of cargo. It basically has everything I could want in a car. I am very practical minded, so I never wanted a super-charged powerhouse with less square footage of storage than a mousetrap. I love mini-vans and larger cars because of their versatility. The Magnum offers that AND enough power to kick some ass. Love, love, love my Magnum!
Back in 2006 everyyyyybody had magnums, chargers and 300’s, even rappers did. They should bring it back with a hellcat version. They would sell like hotcakes 🔥
@@newwavepressure6478 yeah that's the point they could make a hellcat version of this too because it would be on same platform. It would also be a unique car in the US since there's not really any station wagons.
I have a 2005 Magnum R/T, it's my primary vehicle and I love it! Never any problems with it. It's loaded with everything you could order on it. I just drove it across 6 states, and I was getting 29 MPG!
I bought one from a relative who bought it brand new, and I love it. Very smooth ride at 189000 as of today. Just did the Hemi tube up on it. I never knew those engines had 16 spark plugs and double coil packs per cylinder. I was Wowwed! Great video...very informative!
Magnum is a wonderful vehicle! I have one, and it's the best ride I've ever had. I have an '05 R/T .... and it is so fast. Did I say I absolutely love this ride!?
@@rovidbouski4022 I wouldn't go that far people mite feel that way about it now it was a product of it's time like I said it was a cool car back then everybody wanted it along with the Chrysler 300
I agree James, I think the Magnum making a comeback could be interesting. I could see a Magnum SRT Hellcat being an interesting addition to the market because of the overall box checks (space, performance, daily use) and being that the Magnum wouldn't have many rivals to deal with, it should be in for a good challenge.
@@CXNNXRS If you can keep your foot out of it, you can squeeze out about 23MPG in an RT. Just be aware that out of the LX bodies, the Magnum is the heaviest.
@@NanaBisa1 Truth be told! I have an 08 dakota with the magnum 4.7. V-8's are out,who are you kidding. Need I mention all the sales of rams with the hemi? Ass load on the road.
I have a 2005 magnum rt. Yes I have had more problems with it then any other car I have owned. But I absolutely love it! First thing I did was replace the suitcase stock muffler so I can hear the hemi. I'm 60 and grew up in the 70's when loud muscle cars were the cars to have.
I'd love for them to bring it back. With a much nicer interior. I bought a 2005 RT. I should have bought a later year after some of the kinks were ironed out. But living in California there are not hardly any for sale. Maybe an SE but I would not own one of those. Had to drive to Arizona to buy my 2005 Magnum RT.
Had a Red 2005 RT AWD that was totaled in a head on and acquired the the same thereafter in a 2006 model that was totaled in 2008 when a tornado ripped through our driveway and dropped a massive tree on top of it. saw that as a sign to move on. That was after serious wheel, exhaust, av, and suspension upgrades as well. Loved that car.
@11:50 - Quotes from some guys, "I'd be embarrassed to show up to work in a Magnum." - Well I'd be embarrassed saying that I'd be embarrassed showing up to work in a Magnum. Magnum RT owner since 2005 with no regrets.
As much as I love the Magnum coming back. But what I can see is FCA pulling a Subaru and making an LX based Jeep wagon with plastic cladding and a 1 in lift.
The Dodge Magnum was assembled at the Brampton plant in Brampton, Ontario, Canada (3 models Only plant). The Charger, Magnum shared the LX platform with the Chrysler 300. The newer generation Dodge Challenger was kitted and the Magnum tooling was removed, and that discontinued Dodge Magnum...
I currently own the STX MAGNUM 2005 V-6, RWD. I love mine. Has 126,000 Miles. I oil treated ever year for first 5 years. I had it serviced ever 20,000 miles. Thank you for the video. I wish they were coming out with a new model. I under stand it has the same platform as the Chrysler 300.
In two months it'll be 20 20. And I located a 2007 Magnum with 54,000 miles on it. Never thought I'd only one but I do now. Great car, would like to see it come back
I get almost as much attention when I'm driving my 06 Magnum R/T as I do my 04 Mustang Cobra. People dig this car, I wonder if it was just released at the wrong time....?
It is over due to be re-released. I think they should at least consider a limited release edition or something. May be even pre orders on speciality versions. And no trash models this round.
It seems to me like people either really like it or really hate it, not many in between. It still pulls a lot of attention though.. Some people grew up with station wagons being dorky family rides, and they look at a Magnum and just see a station wagon. Others see a cool ass muscle car.
This is the best thing to come from Dodge since the Hellcat engine. It goes the Magnum, The Hellcat, and the gen 2 charger/challengers lol. They didn't know what was to come
My 05 RT has been incredible. At 190,000 miles the motor died. Dropped a new OEM Hemi in it, added a custom exhaust and intake. Bolted on blacked out 10" wide wheels and fell in love all over again. 5 more years and it will be a classic!
Had an SRT8 Magnum for 11 years. Very reliable even with mods. Whenever pulled over the cops would talk about the car. When I sold it I got calls from Dodge dealers across 3 states. Bought a Tesla Model 3 performance. Life goes on. Nice video, thanks.
I bought the Euro version new in 2007, The 300C Touring, with a MB OM642 Diesel engine and the NAG1 transmission. I drove 400000 miles in it before I gave it away to a collegue in 2019... He still drive it to this day...
They really should bring back the Magnum. It was somehow both behind its time and ahead of its time. Wagons had already grown out of popularity, and crossovers which are basically just today's wagons hadn't exploded yet. Since the mid to late 200s, FTC has absolutely exploded on to the scene with its modern Hemis and Hellcats. There are people already sticking Hellcats in their Magnums and making 2018 Charger body mods which look amazing. Concept images for a modern Magnum look phenomenal. If they released a modernized Magnum and gave it a Hellcat package then it would absolutely explode in its rebirth.
I had the same year 2005 outback XT It was a turbo Subaru badass looking. I looked at those Magnums and thought what garbage. Those Magnums are still running today in my Subaru's toast
My mom used to have a 06 charger SXT with the 3.5 L high-output and coincidence that my aunt had a 06 Magnum that was also a SXT and they both shared interior design.
Love my 07' Grocery getter as my husband calls it lol but I have the AWD RT Model and love it! Still driving it today, and no one could offer me enough to sell my girl!
Managed a rental car company for years... Couldn't drive any Chrysler/ Dodge out of the airport without getting pulled. The f*cking Magnum took the cake!
Both Dodge Magnums where built in Canada. The 1978-1979 version was built in Windsor Ontario Canada, featured a Cord styled grill and clear headlight covers. The second one was built Brampton Ontario Canada which is just outside of Toronto.
My second car was an '05 Magnum R/T with a roof rack. I finally had to sell because it wasn't doing my insurance any good and my family was outgrowing it. It is still by far my favorite ever car that I've owned and I wish I still had it. I got one speeding ticket but didn't get a ticket for the time I REALLY was speeding ;) Loved the space in the back, the styling was perfect and the punch off the line was second to none (for me anyway)
My 2007 dark blue shiny Magnum SXT rides silky smooth, and it is extremely quiet in the cab while driving, from the outside when the engine is running the engine idles super smooth and quiet as well. Not sure what the reviewer meant when he said there were noise complaints from others who had Magnums? Yes, we still get looks and comments from others everywhere we go.. Often I'm asked from others "where can I get one?" And yes, often the young guys and girls ask the same questions too. Sure, the Magnum has that masculine look and I do see a few around here kinda tricked-out, lowered a bit with the giant shiny wheels, etc.,etc. Gangsta look? Yes indeed the Magnum right off the showroom floor has all of that w/o any added glitz such as shiny wheels, etc. My Magnum is all stock and it looks like it came right off the showroom floor. Love the Magnum and proud to be driving it. Currently at only 50k miles so we'll be driving it for many more years to come. On time routine professional maintenance is performed always. Dean Mountlake Terrace, WA (just north of Seattle)
An interesting fact is this was sold in Europe and the UK as the Chrysler 300C wagon. It basically had the Chrysler 300 front end attached to a Dodge Magnum body.
I have an 05 rt. It balance comfort with sporty style and power with enough space to comfortably throw 2x4s in the back. It is hands down the best fit car for my style and needs. Just put a new radiator in this weekend and have no intention of giving it up until.
Another problem was that it wasn't REALLY a full-size wagon. It was a full-size car turned into a wagon, but a true full-size wagon would've had to seat at least seven and have room for a 4x8 with the seats down. The Magnum had the same number of seats and cargo volume as a Ford Focus wagon which was much cheaper, got 30+ mpg, and had almost as much car-guy cred if you got the manual transmission.
My 05 magnum with the 3.5 is amazing. Although changing the starter is a beast. Have to drop the entire steering rack. But decent gas mileage, good cargo capacity.
my neighbor convinced me this car was the coolest car ever made, He gave it chrome lighting, modded the engine and hooked up 20 inch Rims on it. Just absolutely beastly. eventually he had to sell it for a ram for business
SE(base) Magnum owner here. Ive had my 2006 magnum since 2007 about 13 years now & what can i say. Its an A to B. It gets u where ur going. Its true about the suspension. I pay about $600 a year on just the labor for the suspension. Not to mention another $200-$300 on the parts. The car lasted about 2-3 years before i had to do any major surgery on it, And needed major surgery very often after that. Not to mention getting pulled over & getting accused of being a drug dealer by police. Since summer of 2019 ive been fixing it once a month at least & i only hav 80k miles. The cars design is bad. Its heavy so the motor struggles to pull it. The windows & windshield are too small making it hard to see your surroundings. The cons: are its always at the mechanics. The pros are: its easy to fix. But most American cars are easy to fix. Trying to get a Tesla next. Thanx for the vid. It was informative.
I had a 2005 Magnum SXT. I bought it because it "apparently" had a tow rating, so I could pull my pop up trailer that was within the tow rating. Problem is it blew out the seals on the differential. Chrysler wouldn't fix it under warranty claiming that I went over capacity on the towing weight (which I did not). Not only was it slow as ____ in acceleration, much slower than stated ratings, but every grab handle broke upon first use. Chrysler claimed it was my fault and refused to fix them under warranty. However, I really liked the car. I now have a 2010 300C, that I bought new. It's been the most reliable car I have ever owned. The 300C is also ridiculously fast. OOOOoo and I also had a Dodge RAM in between the Magnum and 300C which I loved but OMFG gas consumption KILLED ME! I should add that I received compliments on my black magnum at least every week from random people.
All wheel drive, fully tuned suspension with the iconic 340 V8. As cool as the six pack back in the day, this one would have to be fuel injected with an option for a standard transmission as well as an automatic. Of course there would have to be roof rack options to make it a fully functional sports wagon. I'm in if it is done correctly as I have stated.
I do find it funny that it's mentioned about a recession here and there's been a long on going topic of another car recession coming up next year and there will be a massive drop on car sales..I wonder what effect it will have if true.
Totally love my '06 Magnum R/T AWD.......TONS of potential for modifications & tuning if you own one. Mine is now a 1 of None.....6.1L HEMI AWD, functional Shaker hood, 3" dual H-pipe exhaust, MSD ignition, interior A pillar gauges, 3 push button settings (tuned for Economy, Hwy, and all out Racing), shift kit, front & rear shock tower stabilizers, SRT8 struts & suspension, max cool slotted / drilled rotors, 20 inch new Demon wheels w/Goodyear shoes, & Scat Pack badges.......no burnouts here, total squat and hole shot.....*poof*.....grocery getting in the speed of Plaid 🤣
I'm on my second RT Magnum. The first one, 2005, someone totaled for me a few years ago, lucky to find a replacement. (2006) Simply LOVE the car. 130,000 + miles and still runs like a champ. I am larger than average guy so its interior is really roomy and comfortable for me. Love its "Muscle-car-ness" as it s**ts and gets and handles extremely well for its length and girth (Thank you Daimler). Also as a drummer, the cargo space is fantastic. My drum kit and a few amps fit with ease. I agree with the previous post and would LOVE to see a Hellcat or even a "392" version IF they handled as well ass the Daimler cars since I have driven the non-Daimler Dodge versions of the Challenger and Charger and well um...they don't handle or ride as well as the Daimler cars.
I feel like either Dodge Challenger or Charger as wagons renamed to Magnum would sell a lot, wagons are finally getting more and more popular in the USA so I think that would be a smart move
You say the Magnum was the first full sized wagon since the Roadmaster. Ford had the Taurus wagon offered the same year with more interior room and a third row, but is that one not considered in the same class since this was offered with the V8 unlike the Taurus? Technically both were considered “mid-sized” at the time but interior dimensions seemed larger in the Taurus
SUGGESTION: Please consider brig it back as a Dode Charger station wagon. And have a Hellcat Redeyes as an option. with a T56 manual transmission!!!! That would be one badass family hauler.
Owner of a 2006 RT Magnum. Love this car. I understand why they don't bring it back. I just wish they could at least offer the 300 in a wagon like they do in Europe. And have the option here for the diesel. Would make a great work car for tradesmen.
Of the three, this is the only one I would drive. Just never cared for the 300/charger but these are cool. I agree that Dodge should bring it back, it's more or less a different shaped charger so wouldn't be that hard, and they already come out with all these trims/engines, so. People love their "practicality" these days and wagons are among the best for that.
The magnum was built in 78&79 it was a Córdoba with a different grill and flip down headlight covers I had one with the big block engine in it that I modified the heck out of and drag raced it until I broke the frame in it
Recently I was interested in finding one of these cars because muscle car with more usable space and for some reason I just like to profile. But then I was sorely disappointed to learn that they were only offered with automatic transmissions...
