Your problem with getting the new strut in is that you only jacked up one side of the car. You are fighting the sway bar. Next time jack the car up from the rear sub-frame to get both wheels off the ground.
Just did my fronts today.. your rears look identical to mine.. as in that right side of the tab is broke on mine and the spring seat thing is torn badly. Just bought some rears today for mine =D

@@ScanMan79 Yeah, here in Nebraska you hardly even look under the car for rust unless you are looking for structural damage. The rust will get everywhere unless you have some undercoating and dutifully wash your undercarriage. But who has the time and money for that? lol.
You need to put the work SEDAN in the title took me 15 minutes to figure out why EVERYTHING was different in my 2004 stratus COUPE. Different struts, mounts, bolt sizes.
Yeah its a common mistake with a lot of these. If it helps to know, your Stratus is actually a rebadged Mitsubishi Eclipse and 90 percent of the Eclipse how-to videos will apply to your Stratus. Usually the only thing in common with the Coupes and Sedans is the engine and transmission depending on the year and if you got a 4 or 6 cylinder..
You said the broken strut mount is not a critical thing - yes it is, very critical, and should be fixed ASAP. As the previous poster stated you can experience a tire sidewall blowout if the mount fails any further and the spring rubs against the tire.
The part I was referring to was the ears that only attach to the plastic splash shield. They are not critical. That flimsy plastic isn't going to stop anything from moving.
It wasn't meant to be a criticism, I just didn't want other viewers to think that this is not a critical component. I had the same thing happen on my car and like the other poster, the spring was rubbing on the sidewall of my tire. I got lucky and caught it in time before I had a blowout on the freeway.
@@Pro1er The metal part inside the top of the spring broke and rubbed against my tire like a knife and cut a perfect circle all the way through my rear tire
After All The Probs my 04 Stratus Is Giving Me And Not Being Able To Afford A Mechanic Im Gonna Know How To Build A Stratus lol. Had A Strut Break. Ignition Coil Go Bad With Killed my Cat Converter, And 2 Flats and a whole tire fall off after all the studs broke off at once. So Had To Fix Studs. All In A Months Time lol Weekly Occurences
My stepdad's stratus just had this fail and blow out his driver side tire at speed around a curve today.... Checked video to make sure he still has all his mounting points/didn't miss anything.. (Strut lost the parts itself that the bolts connect to into the strut tower. snapped off the strut) He also blew out the spare tire limping it home 7 miles ....lol He has all mounts according to what i see here. Now he has to find someone with a spring compressor to hold the spring in place when he removes it as not to get shot at by the spring under load when he takes it apart.. :/ (Spring in his situation is literally being held in place by the plastic under the car.. only thing preventing it from popping out/off)

Wow that thing is rusty lol. You might wanna wash your vehicle a bit more in the winter after they salt the roads or you will be replacing a bit more. That salt ruins vehicles. Yeah if you remove the center bolt the spring will likely blow the assembly out after you remove the other 2 bolts lol. I've gotta change mine this weekend but I'm reusing my spring. It actually cost more to buy everything separately without the spring then the quick struts but I haven't had luck with the quick struts. I actually think mine is just the bushings and spring seats because on the front I replaced the control arms last year and they seemed sturdy but all the rubber parts were shot. Unfortunately I couldn't find them last year. I only put about 2000mi on this vehicle a year so I just let it go until nicer weather
Yeah, we had just purchased the car and it was already that rusty. was desperate for a car to get to work and it was in the budget. Not my first choice by far. Thanks for watching!
@@ScanMan79 well they make good commuter cars. Good on fuel and seem to run forever. Mine is an 02 with 240,000mi still running strong although I don't really drive it much anymore. It might be a good car for ya I'd just try and wash all the salt off of it because it looks like it's been driven a lot up north. Anyway hope it last you many miles.
I ordered my rear struts off line @ partsgeek amd got them today but they didnt come with the spring. Can I still install them that way and use old springs?
Yes, the old springs can be reused. That said, they are under very high pressure even out of the vehicle and require a spring compressor to be able to remove them from the strut. DO NOT attempt to remove the springs without a compression tool! They will separate with deadly force. A cheap set can be picked up from Harbor Freight for around $40, but that style although works they are very sketchy at best. If this isn't something you've done before, this would be a good item to spend the 40 bucks and have a shop with a proper setup swap the springs for you. I'm not trying to scare you and I'm all for doing your own repairs, but this one can go wrong in a really bad way and wouldn't make the savings worth it. If you have someone that has done it before and can teach you, that's different. Just please don't go at it blindly, not with this one. :)
