As a japanese who experienced working as an interpreter, I just want to say this interpreter made a lot of mistakes. Especially, he doesn’t understand and interpret all of the media’s questions. I think he should take a note at every time they ask a question.

I understand both languages well too and he appears to just drop a lot of the details in the translated question and answer, so Yamamoto is answering a slightly altered question, and his reponses get altered too, making the interview quite useless. The question was how he prepared himself and the answer we get is that he focused on getting himself ready?? A lot was lost in translationx literally. To be fair, all Dodgers’ translators have been like this.

Yu's been in for 12 years. Not sure how many different translators he's have, but give Ohtani's and Yoshinobu's translator a break, they'll get better and better.

For the first question he translated in Japanese like “As you have made a contract with Dodgers and came so far, what did you think about today’s taking to the mound?” Yoshinobu responded like “Last time I couldn’t pitch well and I fixed well my mind and I technically well examined myself so that I could be my best on the mound.” Please look back the first question and see how different the translation is. lol And it went on in this way all the way to the end.

2:22 I'm sure Sonada, the translator, is a great guy in real life but his translation are really bad. He didn't even translated this reporter's question right. She's asking him how he feels now having pitched a great game against the Padres after having poor outings against them prior to today's game but he interpreted it as today's opponents were difficult so what was your game plan for today. I think the main problem lies with English isn't his native language so he doesn't understand some of the phrases, expressions and baseball lingo from the English media and just wings it. Yamamoto needs a translator where English is his native language so he can express what Yamamoto wants to say more naturally and accurately in English.

The translator only summaries the questions and doesn’t translate in detail. He needs to be far more precise. As the result, Yamamoto doesn’t fully answer the questions.

I cant believe why there is so much criticism with Yoshinobu's interpreter Sonoda. Its his first gig as a baseball interpreter and he's just not familiar with baseball jargon, nuance to translate. I dont know Japanese so whatever Sonoda says satisfies me

What an awful translation! It"s really sad that Yoshinobu Yamamoto doesn"t get the accurate translations so that his answers are missing the point. There is no way the reporters get the accurate answers if this interpreter kepps translating.

This translator is not interpreting Yamamoto’s responses accurately. An experienced translator should be used for such high profile official interview. Not good for the Dodgers reputation.
