Real good video. really honest, open true to real life video that most of us can really connect with on an "I've experienced that too" level. All most people see is the big swanky new machinery but what Alans going through is so similar to the majority of the smaller, "part-time" farmers working second jobs & parents getting older. Keep the head up Alan, the community needs to remember its ok to not be ok and sometimes its just good to verbalize all the emotion out loud to someone and feel listened to and understood.
appreciate the comment. I'm definitely not an a-class farmer but trying to show it how it is good and bad and when things get tough your completely right its ok to not be ok and i wish i could talk more about that subject but not quite ready for that yet
@@alanclyde8253 Your just right. Tell it how it is good bad and ugly. Apologies didn't mean talk to us or the camera but I meant to friends or someone else you trust... Problems shared are problems halved at the end of the day. Also I don't know a single farm that doesn't have 20+ jobs needing done, that are bodged in any way to hold it together so don't worry about that. 👍

Top notch vid. Very truthful. Alot of farms are like that. Son wants to take a farm one way but you can't pull the rug from under a father who has worked and raise a family and take all his interest away. A farm is a business, a passion and an addiction all rolled into one. And this winter has been a F-ing tester.
Hope your Dad gets better soon Alan. 100% relate to juggling a job, a farm and elderly parents and the inevitable big decisions that has to be made. I’ve found being more organised on the farm helped me. Fixed the broke gate, the leaking trough, the gap here and there etc etc one by one and and now I’m more focused and spending time on the animals as opposed to chasing my tail. I’m suffering with rotting silage on the sides this year too. Never had it as bad. Great to see you back in action, keep up the good work!
Honest realistic truth from this man. What a lot of us feel but few of us part time farmers have the couage to admit to ourselves or anyone else for that matter
There's a man speaking from his heart. Hang in there lad. You have a lot going on. Ease up on yourself and f**k the judgers. They don't walk in your shoes. But the biggest critic is always in your own head

@@alanclyde8253 I've kinda been there with my business. I was working 7 day a week, chasing money down but it finally clicked with me and I knocked the work off and contracted my self out. I'd use the full time job as a boost to get the farm to where you want but everyone is different 😊. I'm rooting for you!
Alan Clyde , I’m the fixer at home. Put the work into the 1530 before and during harvest, then the engine blew in last field. Gutted. Sure we all can’t afford shiny new toys.
Great to have you back on camera Alan, and what a great video, real honest talk, I think all of us Could really befefit from some time out from time to time, but it's very much easier said than done, I hope your old man makes a speedy recovery. Keep it up your doing a grand job!!
great video alan..sorry to hear things aren't going great for you at the moment..it can all get on top of you very easily when all you do is work and things still seem to go wrong, your a top bloke and as honest as they come,, keep doing what your doing and keep the head up,.were all behind you my friend
👍for being so honest it's not easy. Stick at it, lamb the sheep then sell half. Calve the cows and sell all the ones you don't like. Invest the money in some fencing and maintenance and see how it goes. Don't rush to keep more slowly does it 👍
I hope ya dont stop doin the videos Alan cause I enjoy watching them and I hope your dad pulls through I no it's tough now but ya need to just take a bit of time and stand back take a look and get a handy system that works for you

The weather up there is the same as here in monaghan, absolutely pissin rain all the time. Pure drenched. Them sheep must be some handlin to keep them going.
Great video Alan good to see the smaller farmers and no need for big t7 200 new Holland’s and big john deeres when at the end of the day your machinery is more accessible to the smaller farmer

Just came across upload and subscribed, as for tines reduce hole with sleeves and weld the bollicks out of it , a bit late with this comment as you probably have that yoke welded and not even using it.I will watch a few more uploads while I eat my porridge 👍
You gotta love it to do it, everything conspires against you in farming whether it be weather, ageing machinery, crops or stock so it's a tough life. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us.
Always considered Alan's video's a wee bit more interesting and entertaining but it goes to show behind the camera there's a fair strain on the chap. Too much emphasis by the competition on 100k tractors ect this right here is proper farming with a proper insight.
Another great video, very honest I think it can be a vicious circle, the time you lose working with things that are broken or animal breaking out because of it can be time used to fix the issues
Agree with other guys, the sheep more bother than there really worth, sell some cattle and look around for a better cutter, l changed my old quad that's had been trouble for years, what a difference with abit younger one.
I know nothing about farming only from what I picked up in these videos, but I can use a shovel and and hammer, and strong set of hands. Love to give this man a hand for a bit of experience. and am a serious handy man on a computer.
Yo Al!!!!! Seriously feel your pain and the strains are showing too!!! Hope the ol boy is getting better day by day but ya have to put your foot down too...….. small easy fixes are stacking up on ya and it is proving to be a growing list that will never be sorted.....cable ties and fence posts etc.....rain gutters and maintenance on the grab......Sit yourself down make a list of ALL the handy/not so handy fixes you need done.... and consider this and give it a go for 1 week for me ok, for just a half hour of your days off from the job at FF pick a repair that will take that time and that time only 30 fekn minutes..... changing the hose on the grab for instance. Then work from that list you made and only give a max 45 minutes per job from then on until you get in control a bit bud. Regards the sheep......if your heart ain't in em then it ain't...…. dad will have to respect your wishes or come up with a compromise. The fab 50 cows????? sometimes YOU must compromise too kiddo!!!! Keep the faith Al!!!!
Never had to deal with sheep but seem like a headache, if they're only middling price atm then worth cutting down next yr and focusing more on the sucklers although hard to tell those auld boys once they get a notion for something 😄 also by the time u spend messing about with welding bits onto that shear grab and 40 quid a go forks ya might be safer going for a half decent second hand one for a few hundred quid
Good homest video Alan. I'd say now what you need to help your pit is a bigger loader and good tyres on it. You'll have loads up quicker and compacted better
Alan, why are you bedding where you scraped with the bucket. Leave that unbedded and bed the back of the pen. Having them standing on cement at the barrier will help there feet greatly
im with ya but i was doing that and my awkward wooly monsters were lying in the wet in at the barriers when it was scraped dowwn and culdnt keep em clean

It's not easy to be honest when you talking about a family business. You need to get it to a point that it works for you and papa bear. You can't burn the candle at both ends. Get some super singles on that merlo and get yourself a wee hen to help ya out . 😉✊

Everyone makes wrong decisions the truth is nearly every decision farming is wrong in some ways and right in others ways. And on the cows thing a lot of my sucker farmer neighbours with jobs have sold majority of the cows and tend to just buy in calves now. I know it’s a different approach and sounds expensive but definitely cuts the workload + running a cow on the ground isn’t cheap either, but that system isn’t for everyone just a thought 👍
Alan the best thing any farmer can do is to admit that he was rong that way he knows he has to change it besides if you are ever stumped on how to do somthing there are pleanty people who you can consult even if it is just farmflix vewiers

Alan looks and sounds like a man that's had enough chin up lad one job at a time don't look at everything at once. Could john and the lads not help you doing maintenance around the farm and video it people would watch it two birds one stone and all that.
there's good days too just show it all good and bad. i'm sure the lads would love to help but we are all very busy in the office. they have their hands full

Farming is a drug to some, it is for me anyway. I'm working and milking 50 cows, finish 40 cattle a yr. Just wish there was a fair price for d work we do and we wudnt need a job along with d job we love
