The soul is very simple, when a person hungers, it's one from the flesh, but it's also from the soul, when a person mourns death, or you have great sorrow, it's not specifically from the brain, it's in the heart, in the intestines, something very moving happens from within, when people are happy, something very physical, from the soul is happening. The soul is moved. The spirit is different though, if a person has a dry spirit, then their bones become dry. But if they are close to God, they have strong bones. And if you are close to God, you can physically feel God's kingdom presence of God enter in from within, during worship, you can also connect with God, and him come down in the spirit, next the glory of God is amazing, it's a new experience when people go into praise to worship long enough, leads into the glory. But for people who dont know GOD, JESUS, father, son, and holy spirit. You specifically asked about a soul... and the example mentioned (super interesting example!) seemed to ask about the connection between brain function, belief, and salvation. And somehow it turned into a debate about evolution. I applaud you for your patience. It's clear Kent Hovind did a very poor job addressing your question and completely changed topic. If you really are curious about how Christians would explain the soul and the mind, I would highly recommend checking out some of J.P Moreland's works. You can probably even find some of his lectures on youtube regarding it, if you don't want to purchase one of his books. He supports substance dualism and is very passionate about the subject of the soul and brain. I believe Alvin Plantinga has also addressed this. But his work is very academic. Not for the average layman. It's definitely harder to follow for those not trained in philosophy. I speak for myself in this case as well. Also on the topic of morality which was mentioned later in the video, it's really important to understand the difference between moral ontology and moral epistemology. Understanding the difference between these two concepts is really key to understanding the moral argument. Most of the conversation was about moral epistemology - talking about the different moralities of different religions or worldviews and their inadequacies or superiority. But that misses the entire point of the moral argument which is concerned with moral ontology. If morality is objective ... it's independent of human opinion. I'll list the Moral Argument here since Hovind didn't explain this and maybe he doesn't know it. The way he posed his question was strange. It should have been phrased, "If God does not exist, then how can any of us claim right and wrong are real things?" (ontology). Not... how do we discern right from wrong.(epistemology) 1. If God does not exist, objective moral values do not exist. 2. Objective moral values do exist. 3. Therefore, God exists. Obviously premise 1 and 2 need to be defended and they have been. One can find them with a quick google search. I'm not gonna write it out all here because I've already written a book long post. lol. Distinguishing moral ontology and epistemology "The claim that moral values and duties are rooted in God is a Meta-Ethical claim about Moral Ontology, not about Moral Linguistics or Epistemology. It is fundamentally a claim about the objective status of moral properties, not a claim about the meaning of moral sentences or about the justification or knowledge of moral principles... A proponent of that argument will agree quite readily (and even insist) that we do not need to know or even believe that God exists in order to discern objective moral values or to recognize our moral duties. Craig As stated above, It's important to note that the moral argument still holds up even if we are not aware of the moral values because it's concerned with moral ontology. It seems you do believe in an objective morality. By claiming that one set of moral values is superior to another... I.e. Your natural philosophic morality is superior to Christian morality.. then you are acknowledging that you are comparing them both to some standard. This standard, you describe, is to promote human flourishing because human flourishing is morally good? While I think these statements could be challenged... it still shows that you believe that human flourishing, itself, is objectively good despite what others might claim.. and hence you are using it as the standard to compare moral values that benefit it or are detrimental to it. By claiming one is superior you are showing that you don't really view it as purely subjective.

The truth is no one can really know all this stuff. If there is some sort of afterlife then we will experience it and if there isn't then we'll just be dead, unaware of anything

The Bible does not teach the "immortal soul" doctrine. It is a Catholic doctrine which was assimilated. Bible does not teach that one would die and immediately go to heaven or hell. Most Atheists are simply denying a false Christianity, never reading the Bible on their own and seeing for themselves that the Bible is totally different than that what is taught in churches. You go to church to lose your salvation, not to keep it.

im getting tired from religious people always asking us atheists how we know right from wrong when we don’t believe in god. Well.. we know right from wrong because we don’t like wrong but we do like right. Easy stuff! Even a toddler can understand that. Furthermore; I know that Animals don’t know god either but they know the difference between a pray and non pray. They know the difference between loving their babies and defending themselves from dangers. Many animals have saved other animals and have even saved humans because they know a certain type of right from wrong

In my vision of the universe, witch may be different from yours idk.
