@@topshelfbullys7889you 100% don’t loose muscle. Your thinking of the interference effect. That’s if you do HIT before a weight lifting session. Even that is subjective
@@topshelfbullys7889 Low, intense steady state does not create muscle loss. There’s no sign showing muscle loss and cardio in the way that jay has mentioned to do it.
Well said. I’ve been doing my cardio after weight resistance training for awhile now and it’s showing not only to me but to others how much hard work I’m putting in.
@@markolim8938 doesn't sound like you're working very hard. Try some deep Rep leg press or squats for 20 reps on a nice weight. You'll be gasping for air. Or pull ups. Or heavy bench. Or step up's. Or military press. Literally almost anything
I like how he basically says at the end, you will maximise your efforts if you do cardio on an empty stomach and do cardio after your weights due to the glycogen issue BUT just make sure you get the cardio done somehow as that’s most important. So many times trainers have told me it’s the end of the world if you don’t do things this way or that way and it’s been a wasted session etc. I love his positivity.
I don't get the whole anti-cardio movement these days. It's necessary to stay healthy. Sure you can lose weight from diet alone but cardio is gonna keep your heart healthy.
Yeah, I watch a lot of weight training videos and most of the big guys are out of breath just talking about what their training is. If you want to live a long time with a high quality of life, cardio is a must. I do something every day, even if it's just walking my dogs on my off day from the gym.
People are lazy, that's all there is to get. They like hearing that "cardio kills your gains", and it gives them the justification they need to be lazy.
To this day I still remember Jay committing on my IG post And telling me great job. I am 38 years old now and this man has been my idol since 12. Whoever this man trains or takes in as a father figure God Bless them Cause you'd be the luckiest man in the world. God Bless Jay
My mom convinced to me run on the treadmill and my workouts went from 45minutes to an hour, up to 1hour to 1hour 30minutes. I’m gaining muscle faster now because of that.
What I love about jay is he was smart with his bodybuilding approach, he is one of the few bodybuilders that I’m aware of that hasn’t got any or if so minimal injuries so it’s clear he values his health. Smart guy.
Cardio is important to give literally the most important muscle in ur body, ur heart, what it needs. Just becauee girls can't see ur heart doesn't mean u shouldn't work it out with cardio. Do ur cardio every week people. Ur heart and lungs will thank you for it
late to this comment but your right, but i hate people who work out for females and not thenselves. im not saying thats you, in saying that some people work out to impress girls when they can be impressing themselves. you get me?
@imhopelesslyaddictedtofent4266 no it isn't. U need to maintain the heart up so ur heart and lungs benefit. There's a reason people rest like 2 minutes in between sets when lifting weights. Because weihht lifting is NOT cardio. A minimum of 150 minutes of cardoo for week is what everyone should be doing
@@ramonlgarcia9036 If you’re resting for 2 minutes in between sets then you’re either a powerlifter or you’re not working hard. Even Jay Cutler himself says short rest periods are optimal for bodybuilding.
Nice . I just started incorporating cardio into my workouts this past month. I always have been doing 5 - 10 minutes sprint on the treadmill before i hit my weights (if you even consider that cardio) good to know i should switch that to the end of my session instead of the start . Your the best man . Love your content
Thank you Jay I appreciate all that you’ve done and all that you do I really like these workout tips that your sharing. I’d love to see a series on Tips and tricks videos and what to remember. I love what you’re doing Jay 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Thnk u JC...appreciate u sharin that vital knowledge....I always use ta stress when ta do cardio...didnt wanna do it b4 I worked out cause o felt it would drain me of my energy b4 hittin the weights n ta do it after ❤
Used to train so wrong tbh. Always had a terrible time trying to build muscle. i 25, trained on my body for endurance for years. All my gym friends were bigger but carried the exact same weight or even less, did less reps. I just quit out of frustraition. Now realized that I did way to much cardio BEFORE my gym reps.
Depends your daily calorie index. To much cardio can break down and affect the synthesis of protein and recovery and hypertrophy and in some scenario you should not run daily, especially if your are gaining muscle and you are close to your fitness weight. That's why most of the runner develop a different kind of hypertrophy to a person that do exercise it in the gym, also runner usually have skinny legs, strong but not at the same level of a person that train in the gym. Running it's the best exercise for cardio.
Excellent advice. The fact that he mentions glycogen is something very few people talk about but is something most important for muscle strength and size.
People fear doing cardio because of losing gains, but losing gains doing cardio is usually a direct result of the lack of nutrition needed to sustain that aerobic effort.
This shit is the best fitness advice i’ve ever come across. He just gives advice as you should from going to the gym; not in absolutes whats best or what isn’g like all that bro science bullshit, but from his own experience
Jay I do the same thing and I have two gyms in my house one for bodybuilding one for tai chi combat and healing I’m 58 Pro natty classic Champion Still Competing been doing it since I’m nine I’m never gonna stop hundred percent natural
A little bit of high intensity cardio at the end of my lifting sessions has made a significant difference. I look more lean, i feel much better equipped to handle weight and i have more energy overall
Even though Jay didn’t win 🥇 MR. Olympia 8 Times he can still get up and walk on his own, now that’s how you create longevity in this line of work. Training correctly it matters thanks Jay
Cardio is good for overall health for sure. I would say if your trying to build muscle and also wanna have a good and strong and healthy cardiovascular system you I would recommend low intensity cardio like walking. Doing a lot of running or cycling could potentially affect your recovery. But then again there are people who run a lot and lift weights and have really good physiques naturally. But I would say if your gonna do that, make sure you getting good sleep in and getting a good amount of calories unless your using intense cardio as a tool to lose weight.
YessssSir my boy. Allways After our workouts 💪🏻💯 so let's keep smashing it. It's all buisness champ 🏆 And it's true he does it all.... #MattyFromMass #CUTLERNATION💪🏻🌎🇺🇸
I bought into the high intensity cardio fad for a long time. Especially since I have always been an athlete. Stuff like hill sprints, burpees, Prowler, battle rope, etc. But in all honesty, it never did a ton for fat loss and ultimately effects recovery and sleep patterns. Trying to keep up the performance training and lifting was a losing battle. Now I do 20 min of max incline treadmill walking not holding on 3x per week after full body lifting sessions. Other than that I walk outdoors 1-2hrs daily just to be generally active. I feel so much better, I sleep way better, I'm stronger, and way leaner with a much higher BMR and maintenence calorie intake.
It amazes me how many people still do cardio before their weight training. I tried it one time years ago and it zapped my energy for the weights. Now, like Jay, I've got all my cardio equipment at home for fasted cardio first thing in the morning while drinking coffee and playing Call of Duty.
Cardio is a key component to intense workouts because if you’re out of breath then you can’t put 100% into your lifts also I’ve seen some people do no cardio at all and just try to lift weights for 2 hours instead….if you’re trying to do your weights and cardio done at the same time then your gains will be massively hindered. Do them both but separately!
Hi Jay - I’m conflicted. I like cardio for mental health and cardiovascular wellness, but it’s a catabolic exercise and it seems like it would offset the anabolic lifting/eating and divert muscle recovery to cardio recovery and you would grow much slower if you grow at all.
Hi Jay. I’ve been watching your content for about a year now. I’m 55 and decently built for a normal man that age. I’m 6’3” 240 and lifted all the time into my late 20’s. At my age now, is it possible to get a muscular physique if I do it correctly? I know I’m too old to obviously get anywhere close to a bodybuilder look, but I’m wanting to get muscular before my body gets too old to do anything. At 55 do you suggest heavier or lighter weights? At 53 I did 820 pounds leg presses three reps and benched 225 with just a few weeks of lifting . Thanks for any info you can give me!!!!
Jay is 49. What do you think? Is it possible to build muscle? Of course need to keep in mind- he’s on HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). I would suggest checking your levels of testosterone. If on the lower end and have many of the symptoms, would suggest to do everything possible to do it without the needles. If no significant improvement, maybe go on HRT. PS heavy weights is relative, depending on goals, injury history and strength. For someone 225 on bench is 1repmax, for others that’s a warm up weight. Legpress is the worst example for strength, could be as well doing 2inch range of motion or going as low as mobility allows and doing 3sec pause at the bottom. Good luck. Also, take a look on ketogenic diet/carnivore. Great for overall health, joints, mobility, chronic diseases, weight loss and even muscle gain.
@@vaibhav_nitesh The idea that you need cardio to train you heart is a total myth, lifting weights with high intensity and short rest times regularly is plenty of work for your heart
Cardio is necessary to improve cardio. Strength training is necessary to improve strength. Eating and sleeping is necessary for living. Ur body adapts to stress from right stimulus and proper rest and food. Gain weight = more calories in vs out. Lose weight = more calories burned vs in. Cardio does use energy and help metabolism, but is not necessary for for bruning. A caloric deficit is. No matter how much or how little you do. It can help, but dont do it for the sole purpose of burning calories or else it becomes a chore as well as an unhealthy relationshipnwith food and exercize. Treat it as self care. Eat to live, stay healthy and inclue some enjoyment in both training and nutrition and dont fall for hype. Some people succeed despite what they do not because of it, and others say things to make money off of it regardless of if its true or not. God bless.
Oh boy here we go with no cardio logic. How old are you? What is your mass index? When you say your still in shape, by whose standards? Moms, dads, girlfriends? Boyfriends? You have to do cardio in order to keep up your metabolism and speed up burning unwanted calories.
yeah I was in Army Special Operations we always did calisthenics before we ran and that is the reason why Rangers lead the way.hooah thanks for the advice
I separated my days full body compound lifts only for 1.5hours or cardio for 1.5 hours boxing mma agility ladders jump rope hardcover stuff. I love crawling out the gym but I have to separate my insane cardio from my weight lifting days(train to failure). But you have to do what works best for your body we are all different. I'm 36, 14% body fat at 5'9 just trying to train for longevity.
As a coworker of mine who's about a third of my age found out if you like going to shoot hoops or something similar with your buddies without a good cardio foundation you're going to run out of gas long before your game is finished cause weight training doesn't help you with that.
Swimming is my go to cardiovascular training in the morning, weights in the afternoon for a couple of hours. Off days ill swim 1.5 km, on days 750 metres.
