This video was very informative, I’ve been looking for a good pair of hiking boots for fall and winter. During the summer I like to stick with Keens. Thanks for the great content!

The soles are ok but : outdry does NOT work, I bought the new peak freak shoes last year and found that water seeps in quickly from the front mesh. I raised a complaint that took 2 months to get through and then I got a replacement AND today it rained here in Germany and I once more found lots of moisture in my shoes all around the toes .... I hate it when big companies make a fool out of customers .... Better stay with goretex

Thanks for that information!! Though I haven’t been very active on RU-vid or IG lately, I’ve been trying out other shoes. I don’t have any personal experience with Goretex construction/brands but I’ve been impressed with Kamik, Timberland, and Vasque lately. I will say though in a lot of gear categories I’ve noticed the big brands decline in quality and even testing for that matter. Have a great day or night!

I dont know about these, but if you want great Columbia hiking boots, check the ESCAPE THRIVE ENDURE. Best comfortable grippy ones you can get, I love them. Not even the Adidas Terrex Free Hiker can touch them. I made about 150km with them, still look great after half a year of brutal abuse :) on all terrain.

@@adeeo Good to know! I’ll have to check them out! I’m in the market for some new hikers as my last ones went out and my low hikers aren’t as satisfying as boots. Of course I probably won’t be hiking for a while due to ongoing health issues. Thanks for the support and comment! -Matt

That answered my question about the crestwood line. I figured they had to have cut quality to hit a price point.

Columbia hiking shoes/boots used to be incredibly comfortable when they had small scale lugs in the outer sole, and used EVA in the mid-sole. Then they went to this Techlite crap midsole, and made the lugs big, and they ruined the shoes. Now the soles are stiff as a board, have no cushion, and no spring to them. This also decreases your foot feel when you hike, giving you less feeling of precision in your step. And your soles don't bend down over a rock, or branch. The loss of spring and energy return means all the compression goes to the bottom of your feet and your knees. Which causes pain. When I wear my 2-year-old worn out Columbia's I get no foot pain. With my brand new Columbias I get foot pain. They bloody destroyed their product.

Hi buddy, you said you replace these with the timberland white ledge, how are the white ledge's holding up?
@mattstreamadventures

The Timberland White Ledge boots are holding up great! So far they made it through a lot of mud in the mud season, are surprisingly light in the summer, were perfect for the fall, and I actually just wore them recently in the snow in the White Mountain National Forest. The laces are good quality, as well as the leather, and soles. I cannot personally find a thing to complain about them yet besides the lengthy break in period. (which is typical for a leather boot.) Be on the look out for a video I'll have coming up soon on them. I've been getting a lot of questions about them.

What did you replace them with? Hopefully you found something better.

Hey, great question! I replaced them with the Timberland White Ledge mid waterproof boots. I highly recommend them. They hold true to the waterproof part, do require a bit lengthy of a break in period, but feel like they could last forever. They are leather and there are no signs of quality control issues. Timberland also provides care products and proper care directions for their boots. At first I didn't like the idea of supporting a big company like Timberland but they really put effort in to footwear. The boots are more comfortable than some sneakers I've worn. Thanks for watching the video.

Informative review, however, putting the shoes back and forth 50 times was a bit annoying😅

Thanks for the comment, and I’ll make a note of that. Come to think of it, I may have a bad habit of doing that in some of my other reviews 👀😂. I’ll work on that.

Sorry for the late response on my end. That’s not surprising. Thanks for the comment and view!
