I understand the appeal of 144hz for online games, CSGO, League, Dota whatever, but for actual singleplayer or story-driven games not so much. There are parts in Watch_Dogs 2 where it drops to under 30... with a GTX 1080.

If the frametime at 30fps is not perfectly 1/30 second, there will be pictures shown for 1/35 second and pictures shown for 1/25 second and so on. Some of these time periods are longer, so it is possible, that 2 of the ca. 30fps the brain notices, are the same picture shown on the display. The same thing happens at 60fps too. But there, it seems more fluid, because the irregularities are more like 1/70 second or 1/50 second. These time periods are simply smaller than the ones at 30fps and the possibility to notice the same pictures for 2 times in a row is smaller. But your brain definitely does not notice all those 60 or 144 frames shown on your display per second.

In my opinion, its how much you play those games, usually I play a lot a game that is 60fps then switch to another that is 30fps and it feels kinda choppy but I get use to it and I feel it smooth later, then when I go back to 60 it feels a lot smoother but then it feels as normal

I have no problem bouncing between 60fps and 30fps. I play things like Fallout 4 on my PC at 60 while I play JRPGs at 30 fps. Things like Star Ocean for example. 30 FPS is plenty for those games. So for me it depends on the type of game I am playing on weither or not I can play at 30 or if I need to play at 60

The thing about this, it takes time for technology to utilize a more power efficient system. Right now, at 24inch screen of LED, you'd consume 40 watt. LCD will draw 50 watt. CRT will draw 120 watt. Power is far more efficient on a PC monitor than it is on Plasma TV's that draw 3x LED.

Well actually I can because let's say I had 60 FPS without Vsync on. It would be fine because it perfectly matches the refresh rate. But anything around 70-80 I can notice because it's not synced up and it would look kinda choppy. But once it gets to like 100+ it looks better again because it has more frames to chose from I guess. There's a reason why every standard resolution doubles it's pixels. 480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K etc The whole 900p vs 1080p nonsense is completely redundant. 1080p is slightly better than 900p but again, the pixels have to be double (or at least 1.75x) to have any real significant difference in picture clarity. The real difference between 900p vs 1080p is in the performance, despite being almost visually the same thing. With that being said, a game being 900p is not going to ruin or detracted the game's quality compared to a game that's native 1080p. 720p vs 1080p is a huge difference but 900p vs 1080p is where you get nitpicky.

The GPU is *NOT* the priority, however CPU and synchronisation(freesync) are the real priorities, on most games hitting a consistent 144fps is not possible because the games are not optimized enough(one CPU core stays at 100% while the GPU stays at 50% usage waiting) and if they were optimized enough the CPU will sill struggle with high draw distances and things like that.

Eli motion cameras that say like 1000fps means that you can slow the frames down to 60fps and it gives q slow motion effect, frame rate can go as high as you want and it will never slow down unless you want it to
