I’ve been traveling full time since January 2019. It’s soooo much cheaper than my normal US lifestyle before & I have a much fuller, enjoyable life now!

My budget is the same no matter where I live (currently Chicago). Rent including all utilities and high-speed wifi $1250, mobile phone $15, bus pass $40, health insurance/prescriptions $50, streaming services/VPN $60, food/household supplies $400, miscellaneous $100. Total under $2000. I earn over $6000/mo. so two-thirds of my income goes into savings and investment. In 2024, I plan to travel about 4 months of the year but still keep my home base in the US. Best of both worlds!

As a homeschool mom of 8 who is winding down with the last 3 children getting ready to go to college, the aspect of minimalism and vacation buying had not even occurred to me. The reality that the rest of the world lives at a more moderate level monetarily in comparison to the US, truly places things on a different perspective. Thank you for your continually wonderful insights. My husband and I are really enjoying your channel. We sincerely appreciate your generosity sharing your thoughts and experiences. Muchas gracias! Continued Blessings🌺

Great insights but I'm looking around my home office and trying to envision not having any my equipment or supplies nearby to get work done since I still have to work. Talk a bit more about working or conducting business or income-producing activities without ever having a home base again. Thanks!

I'm not retiring yet but I can't believe HOW MUCH MONEY I've saved by just NOT having a car! It's unbelievable! Not just the car stuff- insurance, maintenence, gas, tires....BUT the FORTUNE I'm saving NOT Stopping into the store on the way home buying a bunch of (mostly) Junk food I didn't need. Bus pass $92/mth. Better late thsn never! I'm healthier (all the walking to/from and NO junk food!! I'm already funding my travel category! THANK YOU for your inspiration and years of advise!❤from 🇨🇦

We've taken some months long trips overseas and we were surprised that our monthly bills went down. No groceries to buy, no Amazon shopping, utilities cut in half, no gasoline for the car, etc. BUT, it's nice to still have a nest with your own stuff. I guess everyone wants the best of both worlds. It just costs more. Perhaps a furnished apartment near public transit would be a good nest if it's affordable.

The AC! We bought a 13 year old home and it came with a home warranty, which we've renewed for 7 years. But it takes a WHILE to get things moving through the warranty company. Last year, we went 5 months with no washing machine and July 4-just after Labor Day with no downstairs AC in the brutal NC heat. The final cost to us for the gas pack unit was just under $8k. SO can't wait to get out!

I'm absolutely loving every episode and the full-time travel lifestyle! However, one thing that's been on my mind is planning for the distant future - specifically, my living situation in 15 years when I reach my slow-go and no-go years. Should I rent or buy again? What’s your plan? I'd love your input on how to prepare for this next chapter. Thanks! 🙏

We are currently planning to rent, but of course that could change. We also aren't sure what if any new housing products, as far as rentals go, could be launched in the coming years.

I live and travel in a truck camper, which is much less expensive than when I owned a house. My dream is to also travel internationally, but I have two small dogs. Do you ever see other full-time travelers who bring their dogs? I have driven to Mexico and Canada with them, but I would love to go to Thailand and destinations in Asia. Thank you! I am enjoying your content!
@GroundedLifeFinances
@GroundedLifeFinances 3 месяца назад
We don't see it often in Asia, I think it would be pretty hard to do, but with enough research could be done. There are less accommodations available there that account for that and it cuts cruising out. But for instance, shockingly the place we are at in Japan right now would allow it.
@KimannChessa

@@GroundedLifeFinances Thanks for the info. The Japanese pet culture is fascinating. I saw pets eating at the table with their families and poodles with pink-dyed fur in baby carriages in Japan. Pets do complicate things with full-time travel. I can always have my Ex watch the dogs for a month or two and either cruise or go overseas for that time. I just miss them.

Another cost savings is taxes. You aren't establishing yourself as a tax resident in a new country and possibly paying more in taxes there as well as being in a lower US tax bracket.

I do a monthly spreadsheet for our monthly bills, and I noticed last year that we spent $38,000 in credit card charges (ouch!). Since I itemized everything, most of these charges can be eliminated. I plan to cut back.
