Hi friend! This video was demonetized because two of the videos we responded two have music in them. Sending a superchat would help us cover the cost it takes to make this video! If you're enjoying it make sure to give it like and sub to the channel :)
As a former white Evangelical pastor (for nearly a generation), I'm been Exvangelical for 10 years. I now attend a small church (average 75) that is affirming and has an openly gay man who leads as part of worship leaders. When I retired, I didn't think I could find another church that was on the same page as myself. But, praise God, I did.
I watched the full McDonald's video. As a former McDonald's worker, I felt personally insulted by it. Dude cosplayed for 15 minutes what was my fucking existence and acted like it was fucking fun and easy. Would like to see him work a full drive thru/lobby during rush hour. This was so insulting.
The woman who promoted the idea that women shouldn't get mammograms, sent a literal chill down my spine. This past May, a routine mammogram detected breast cancer , which was caught early, because I listen to my doctor and get screenings Yearly! It's been a journey and the Lord and my family have ever present. My surgery was a success. And I am nearing the end of my radiation therapy, with 9 treatment days until I can ring that bell, declaring to the world that I am cancer free! LADIES: Forget about big pharma, think about your loved ones and the future you want to live! GET YEARLY MAMMOGRAMS! 😊
As Arab-American, I am considering a vote a vote for Harris is the equivalent of putting on the oxygen mask on myself first. I can't help anyone else if our president is destroying us domestically.
I promise you, Christians if you are ever TRULY persecuted, I will stand for you. Please stand with me for LGBTQ+ rights and I will protect your right to practice your faith and love God. But you gotta help us.
I've heard a lot of people say that if you don't take an authoritarian stance with your kids, they will fall into addiction or alcoholism. Well, friends, it's that same authoritarian response that helped drive me into my alcoholism. I just find people who think this way so disconnected from reality.
Christians don't understand the reason so many dislike them - they are annoying. I'm a Christian and they annoy me. Who would want to be one of the people they see as annoying? If they were loving and not annoying, maybe they'd be loved. If they were prayerful and not annoying, maybe more people would consider praying. If they were helping the poor instead of being annoying, maybe there would be fewer poor people. Maybe if they fed people instead of being annoying, maybe there would be fewer hungry people. The hypocrisy of the right-wing preachers are pushing more and more people away from Christ... but one thing I know, for sure, the spirit they are a part of is not Holy.
Personal comment of Laura Botten: If Trump "isn't perfect" but you should vote for him anyway, why is Kamala so evil and unforgivable? Can't she be less than perfect, but vote for her anyway?
The two guys got what they wanted-15 minutes of fame being a victim, persecuted. They will repeat that story the rest of their lives. I've been waiting for the fallout between Catholics and Protestants about who will be in charge.
I've had commenters tell me that Harris isn't "Christian" because she told them to leave. Of course, if it was at a Trump rally and someone was shouting lies he would have turned the audience onto them by shouting obscenities.
As an atheist, I love listening to you guys and gaining information about this fight among believers. It goes round and round and round. Jesus was the bomb!
I think it’s pretty clear that she did in fact actually say it; the whole question is of what it was *_in response to,_* which would change the context of what she meant by it. It seems to me that, whatever the actual words the protesters in the crowd were shouting, the object was primarily to be disruptive, not to praise God. As such, I cannot consider her response in any sense inappropriate or anti-Christian.
Oh Tucker. I raised three boys as a single mom with no financial assistance from Dad. My children would never have behaved in the manner you describe, much less even think of behaving that way. They respected me and they respected their home. So ‘Dad’ isn’t the answer. Kind, Democratic, compassionate guidance is the answer
I use the 3🔑’s to every relationship from a stranger in the street to a partner… Respect, Responsibility & Consent. A mutual agreement between people on these 3 things can make any relationship have its best chances of success, because when any of them are missing or not agreed upon it causes negative consequences within the relationship dynamics (often accompanied by hurt feelings).
I was raised in the Assemblies of God church and have been out of it since my teen years, but my dad and his wife are still in it. It saddens me how they have been so twisted to support not only trump but Christian Nationalism. I sent my dad a video last week by James Talarico talking about it but he neglects to see that is what he is deep in. Thanks so much for your podcasts, and April, for your book! It has been eye-opening on the entire scary movement. I hope I can get them to see what it is but I'm not sure they will get there.
I'd vote Republican if my Dem party had Trump on the ticket. He has no principles and I'd rather have a president with principles, even if I have to vote for the other party. Even if I liked his policies, there's a right and a wrong way to accomplish them, and Trump chose all the wrong ways, along with everything else. I couldn't support him just because he's in the party I align with. I might get my way now, what happens when the pendulum swings to the other side? If, for example, my man Bernie Sanders starts to behave like Trump, time to retire, Bernie. And I'm glad Biden recognized his limitations (which it's going to happen to all of us, not being ageist). Enough with personality cults.
April- that’s amazing news about the ladies changing their votes after reading your book. The news about your FIL is awesome! Tim, I pray you and your wife are able to find rest and she’s feeling better soon! Thank you for pushing through to give us the Friday recap💙🇺🇸🎉
Thank you for making it known how bad "school choice" is! We are in IN and school choice has been awful for the families who can't get to a school other than public school and for the kids with special needs. It is killing our school systems and hurting our children. Vote NO, Kentucky!
I sincerely want to say thank God I found this channel at this time. Thank you for doing the Lord’s work and giving people like me hope for the future because now I know I’m not the only one with my personal and political views. Keep fighting the good fight! ❤
It was obvious to me she couldn’t hear what Luke and Grant were saying. But did they forget that Trump said he would have military shoot peaceful protesters?
I am an atheist now but 40 years ago I was neck deep in evangelicalism. I studied for the ministry, sang in a gospel quartet, the whole 9. In those days we always thought 'unsaved' people would never recognize the Antichrist. We, however, knew what to look for and Trump fits the bill 15 different ways and what do you know, the church doesn't see it. Not to mention so much of their ties with Trump and politics in general is not biblical at all. Ironic that the "unbelievers" might vote to save this country while the "christians" boil in their petty hatred.
I heard it on one of the news networks. They were shouting lies lies or liar liar. That’s what Kamala reacted to. Meaning Trump is your liar. Go shout it at him.
I'm completely with you against Christian nationalism, and have already voted for VP Harris. You both are a link in the chain of my deconstruction. Former plymouth brethren here. Ironically Darby would be completely against Christian nationalism, and would not have taken political stance to support Israel. He, like most plymouth brethren were passive observers of the world stage and politics, viewing themselves as those who are "called from above and heavenly men by birth". I was always discouraged from voting at all. But it's sad and scary that the bad ideas of a relatively obscure group of Christians from the 19th century have influenced so many in turning a blind eye to genocide.
I can vouch for this. No one I knew growing up in the brethren voted. If they did, they hid it from everybody else. We were “not of this world” and therefore not supposed to get involved in politics. In a way that was good because we weren’t out growing the numbers of evangelical Christians voting, but it was also a disturbingly isolationist take that allowed us to look the other way from societal suffering. If no outsiders joined our assembly and the group remained small, we could at least take comfort in knowing we were living according to the Bible (talk about smug! ugh) and Jesus was coming back any moment to judge sin and take control. Very apolitical, ahistorical, and unChristlike strain of Christianity.
From afar : What is wrong what these people indeed ??? “ By their fruits shall you know them” JC “ When you see a stranger - you should see a neighbour … KH Wake up Christians - How much Religious Freedom do they have in Russia , China etc
I’m glad you are finally talking about this. My thought is she didn’t really hear what the hecklers were saying or she was addressing the hecklers, not what they were saying.
Well, Kamala can only hear from the speakers in the front of the room from the stage where she's standing, and it's what we hear. She can't hear what someone's recording with their cellphone at the back of the room. All I can hear is heckling when they play it from the perspective of the stage. For those saying otherwise. It's a lack of common sense.
I appreciate that you both speaking out, but I think I may have to disengage for a bit. My mental health is being affected. I tried informing my Christian friends about the truth, and no one wants to listen. I have lost my church community (I had to leave). I was just told that a Christian couldn’t vote for Kamala. This is someone responding to a post on loving others, and haven’t had contact with her in person since our high school years. I didn’t respond because I have decided I can’t respond to everyone. I will respond to those asking questions. This has been so hard!
Sorry, you guys are so good, I have to affirm you again. April is so right, we can't paint people we don't agree with into a corner. This, too is othering. The result is culture wars that create polarised communities. We pray, we speak with grace. We love. Let go and let God.
Kentuckian here. Yes the school voucher program is on our ballot too. And thanks to pastor Rodney, I guess I know why I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. 🤦♀️ I wonder what he'd have to say about Billy Graham who was a registered Democrat. 🤷♀️
@Incident at Harris Rally, from 21:24 onwards: There's actually a great video by Rev Ed Trevors on this and what to make of it, too. That she was neither mocking christianity nor Jesus, but simply reacting to their annoying behaviour as hecklers, interfering with her speech.
Love Rev Ed. I'm holding back on listening to that video because my wife likes to listen to him too. He's a pastor I wish I could have in person. And I'm not Anglican.
Don't feel bad about voting third party in 2016. The only way the two party system (and consequently the Overton Window) will be broken is if we refuse to vote the lesser of two evils and instead look for the good to vote for. To be fair, we need to push for a tiered voting selection system to allow our order of preference to be taken into account, and that would likely encourage people to vote for their first choice and not worry as much about the idea of their vote being thrown away. But until we are willing to lose, we cannot win when two party systems are so easily manipulated. That being said, I am voting for Kamala Harris this election.
Most people overestimate their righteousness and underestimate their corruption. We are very vain. We cannot do anything about it unless we can see it.
You have to find the clip where Donald Trump tells a Christian group they have to get out and vote. He’s not a Christian but they need to vote for him!!!!!
The whole political sphere is a reality tv show. America is a weird corporation/nation. Neither party can 'save the country'. All people in this country: leaders on down, have had plenty of opportunity to do right. In April of 2016, I heard doors slamming in the spirit. I heard the words: Stubborn, obstinate nation, stiff necked and never listening. I still pray on that. What are we not listening to as a nation? I think its listening to each other in order to learn. The country loves arguing. I havent been inside a church since 2007. Like your show! I think you should invite Frank Schaeffer on! And yes: I prayed earnestly about voting and voted Blue, for the country.
I love what you guys do. Appreciate the honesty, humanity and humor! 😅 Keep up the good work and hope everyone gets well. I'm a young-ish boomer with 2 Gen Z kids. I have a lot of hope in the younger generations. I first voted for Reagan in 1980 and voted mostly Republican since although never for Trump. Voted for Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024, as well as other Democratic candidates! 💙 I have never been so worried and stressed about an election in my entire life!😵💫
Thank you! I have used that exact example of Jesus being tempted in the wilderness by Satan, and Satan offering him all the kingdoms of the world. Christ rejects Satan, saying It is written, "you shall love the Lorc your God and him only shall thou serve!" But when Satan, in the form of politics and worldly power is offered to the Evangelical Church in America, did she tell Satan not to tempt the Bride of Christ, because we are faithful to only Jesus, and that we put our trust and faith in him and in the power of his blood? No! She took the deal! And if she does not repent she will not be included in the wedding supper of the Lamb, because she will not be a part of the Bride! This is not just about American politics, it's about the Kingdom of God, the Lamb of God and the Bride, the one true Church, whose garments will be white as snow, washed by the blood of the Lamb.
The guy who yelled Christ is king in my opinion use the name of God in vane, since he was out of place and protesting for his political views. And the Bible clearly tells us not to do that because the name of God is Holly. It is a sin, and is forbidden in the third commandment. Kamala called out someone out of place, not the fact he used the name of God.
Since you brought up being a missionary to Christian nationalists - you should connect with Caleb Campbell, an evangelical pastor in Arizona who pursues that kind of work as well! He wrote a book called Disarming Leviathan.
People like the two of you give me hope as my faith wavers. I stopped going to church during the pandemic when I felt like my views didn't matter and there was an increasing emphasis on impending persecution. Social anxiety has kept me from attending another, and the number of queer-affirming churches in my area are few. I'm so tired of self-righteous Christians who use their salvation as a means of superiority and feel that everyone should be subjugated to their doctrine because they know best. They conflate their religious views as "common sense; I used to think that way, which also annoys me. I find it very rich that those who seek to convince others to to repent and turn to Jesus have no desire or willingness to change any of their own views whatsoever. I'm just so tired and angry and I can't wait for this election to be over so we can figure out whether to relax a little or brace for the oncoming storm.
So tired too and so ready for Whatever is coming. Yea my mind and body is in hyper alert mode. I am nervous to say the least even if he doesn’t win. But thank y’all for being my sanity on Fridays these last few months
By the way, I know you and so many others are really tired, from election news and personal life stuff. But your content has been a restful space at least for me to cope with all of this! Thank you for being so persistent! I voted early for Harris/Walz but it feels so insufficient just to do that. I've been turning to progressive Christian voices like yours more and more to process the juxtaposition of fighting Christian nationalism and being angry at Democrats for what's happening in Gaza.
Oh my gosh, April me too. 60 days ago I was going to make a video apologizing for my stand son being consciously apathetic the last eight years with voting I was going to publicly admit how wrong I was because now I’m part of the problem, plus I was a tea partier back in the day when that was a thing , so doubly part of the problem. I just listen to a tax breakdown on the two plans and the men at the end said no matter what the guy is not gonna fall, things are gonna go on our country not gonna implode. And that’s even more frustrating. Because the hair in denial simply because they only look at it from economic standpoint. I tried to say if women are dying in parking lots from preventable operations to save their lives. What does it freaking matter what our economic policy is if people can’t get a job because of who they are, what doesn’t matter what our economic policy is that benefits just a few.AnyWho, my point being I feel so overwhelmed. I have not been able to even make one video to announce New Business let alone apologize but I do share a lot on Facebook that feels like something at least.
I have nothing to go on, but I think women my age will secretly vote for Harris based on several things, but especially women dying from miscarriages. They are Christian and won't say it out loud or on a poll, but have had these pregnancy scares themselves 30,40, 50 years ago and wont tolerate their daughters and granddaughters suffering this way. Maybe my brain has decided to check out, but I've been experiencing a strange sense of calm. I sure hope I'm right.
Ha! Ive thought the same thing. Both hubby and I voted Blue. We usually vote Red, not always. But this time has hit way different. I too have a calm, but I think it may be because Im old and who knows how much time I have left ...❤
There’s a distinct possibility you ran into my buddy Nick at Beer Camp. He ran a DND game there and has had Tripp Fuller on his Tolkien and Pop Culture podcast. And I really hope you have, because he is one of the most genuine and fun humans I’ve ever had the privilege to know and I will always cherish the memory of when we all went with him when he got his first tattoo in college. Good times. And a good dude.
On what Tucker said- so not only does it take dad to come home and do discipline - spanking of all things. But also did anyone else notice that the girl that needed the spanking was “hormone riddled “ ? Soooo gross!!!!!!
Personal comment of Laura Botten: Oh! But April, America is mentioned with the Bible every time the symbolism of an eagle is used! * Sarcasm * As a Canadian we do get tired of American movies where America is the only important nation on earth. The President is the leader of every crisis. I absolutely LOVE the Doctor Who line from the British Prime Minister when aliens hovered over London and the American President called "You can tell the President - and please use these exact words - "He's not my boss and he's certainly not turning this into a war!" :D
I think that being persecuted for the cross and the gospel is different than being resisted for culture war purposes. One is covered by the cross. The other is on you.
Thanks for expressing the anger and feelings and horror of the devastation in Palestine while speaking clearly about the importance of keeping trump out of office.
I love Lord of the Rings, too. Have you listened to the bbc radio drama? It's awesome. Anyways, I often think, because of the map, where you would be in Middle Earth, April. I think you'd be in Rohan riding with Eomer combatting Grimer Wormtongue. Eowen, perhaps, because you are no man, lol.
I absolutely love your guys channel and content. There are things that I like about Harris/Walz but sometimes I fear as a society we have political amnesia and completely dismiss both Harris’s and Walz devotion to Israel. Harris will sometimes say how we need a ceasefire but in the same breath will state that she will continue to support and fund Israel claiming its vital to the security of the US. What do you guys say to people, such as myself, who are sick and tired of our tax payer dollars funding the murder and destruction of the Palestinian people?
I don’t worship in an Evangelical tradition (mainline Protestant), but nevertheless wanted to say that I greatly appreciate your VODs and learn a lot from them, from a Christian perspective. Praying we prevail in November and that we manage to preserve our institutions from harm by this madness we are now all facing.
