The fact you tested the stability to the point of actually putting yourself in the water made me subscribe right away lol, I’m looking into my first fishing kayak and being super indecisive but I think this is the one I’m gona go for
That means alot man, an I just try to provide the details that would help me make a decision, because it took me a couple months to decide. Glad the video was useful, you will enjoy this yak.
Wow, that's huge. That means alot! Thanks man for supporting the channel and subscribing. I appreciate you watching...and will always love to see you comment as we move forward! Get that therapy!
Got mine about a year , and It's great, and I also got the same seat, im about 210 pounds and when it's flipped down and you sit on the top of it.. it's so much easier to stand up in..also bought the 50 ish dollar ozark trail wheels to move it around..they dont fit perfect but with the rachet straps held on to the front ..it moves around great ... def worth the 800 dollars..and what ever extra you wanna get for it
Now, that's a long-term review that I needed. Thanks for sharing that insight. I will look into the ozark trail wheels for it. But I also love this yak and believe it's hard to beat for the money.
I have looked at that boat a lot. It's what I wanted when I bought mine but I went with cheaper model. It appeared to be very stable with you almost having to want to turn it over. Nice looking ride.
No problem, it's great to hear my video helped you out. The stand up assist strap makes life so much easier, I didn't realize just how effective it would be.
I agree with you. The sit-on-top seat and standing stability were definitely a top priority for me. It makes a day of fishing so much more enjoyable and less strain on the body.
@@fishingistherapy Thanks man. I just started fishing for therapy myself. I'm not good at it but I do enjoy being outside by the water. Hopefully I will have a kayak or boat soon.
Just keep chipping away at it, I'm sure you can get a yak soon. The lifetime tamarack is a good starter yak, I have that one on my channel as well. Only costs around $300. But man I agree, it's hard to beat being in nature by the water....it's truly therapeutic!
That would be beautiful, that's what I'm striving for. Stick around, hopefully it gets there, if not, I still am enjoying the journey and will forever get that therapy! Appreciate you!
Yes Sir! I too got a pelican fishing kayak coming REAL SOON! And yes, I do a lot of fishing out on the lake, since i live on lake sam rayburn here in east texas. 🎣🐟
Thanks for your videos. After a lot of research this is the kayak I will be buying in the spring. It is very helpful to watch you put it through its paces. Have you considered putting an electric motor on yours? I look forward to you further adventures.
Thanks I appreciate you watching. I have considered an electric motor, have been looking at the newport vessels trolling motor, but I am trying to decide if it is necessary or not. Need more time In the yak to decide. Definitely have more testing to do, more to come soon.
Everything keeps bringing me back to the 110. I thought about a pedal drive so I could split the work between my shoulders and legs (joint issues) but the places I'd be fishing or exploring would be shallow or extremely weedy. The only sit-in kayak that I could find that could accommodate me and my dog with a bit of modding is the Argo XR Angler, and I can't find anyone who sells that. The 110 definitely seems worth the money though, at only $1065 Canadian.
Yeah, I would agree that it is worth the money. I though of getting a pedal drive as well, but I kayak in rocky conditions and weedy areas as well and didnt want to worry about damages. I wanted the extra leg space and a area to put my bait bucket and this kayak is the best out there for stability, price, modifications and weight. I think you can't go wrong, or you could try the pelican catch 110 hydrive that has a pedal if you really need it.
I've heard the pedal drives tend to break and leak easily and are a serious PITA in low waters. I bought my Catch 110 and had all three of my dogs on there with me for a tip test. That's, a Yellow Lab (65lbs), a Golden Retriever (85lbs), an Aussie (40lbs) and me the French Mongrel (200lbs) and we did the "tip test" too. All it took was a couple of Canada geese to land next to us and all three leaned right. Managed to hold steady just me leaning left when the Goldie jumped off and that's what tipped us! One thing I have since added over the bottom kydex sheeting (thanks FisherTherapy) is a rubber strap going handle to handle over the bottom (plain bungee could do but might have more drag) so I can flip it back over if it ever happens in open water. I didn't try the unflip super hard because I was doing all this close to shore but I could not unflip the kayak. I couldn't get a solid grip from the middle to heave it up and trying to push the closest side middle down . . . well the geese just laughed at me. In all honesty that was the first time I'd ever taken any of them on a boat and they've since settled down. Note that with three dogs (lab in the back, two in the front) I still had room between my legs for two geese carcasses. I wouldn't ever dare go fishing with three retrievers.
🤣Thoae geese had good entertainment. But your right thats alot of weight with all your dogs and the kayak seems to have held it well. I like the strap underneath idea. Its a wide yak and to have to reach across it can be challenging. Im going to look into doing this. What I have found with this yak in particular and wider yak is that you can board it from the rear the pontone section and slide down it and grab the handle to flip the yak back over. Also I heard the same leaking and pedal drive issues as well and I jusg wanted to avoid all that and not lose my leg space. Thanks for providing your insight and tips. Gives me something to improve. and think about.
Good video brother, o absolutely love kayak fishing.I have difficulty walking too long since being injured, and my yak keeps me in the game .. awesome video as always
Yes indeed, had a blast making this video. These yaks will definitely keep you mobile and fit. Time to test it in a river and lake. As always I appreciate you watching brother!
Yes indeed, 100%. I am currently adding mods to it and will be putting out a video soon on my new upgrades. I love this yak and I am glad I decided to purchase it.
I have the catch 100 but I’m thinking about a) selling mine and getting the 110 or 120. Or b) build my own/buy outriggers to stabilize the yak By chance have you ever owned the 100? Or know someone who’s owned the 100
I have not owned a 100, but have seen and got feedback from guys on the water sbout it, they have stability issues and tracking issues. I initially planned to get a 100 but after looking into the 110 and the upgrades for ghe money it was a no brainer. Now i have gotten good feedback once stabilizers and after market skeg were added, but I didnt want to do that as it coukd hurt the resale value with all the holes in yak that would be needed. I would say if you have the extra money go for the 110, if your a good diy guy and have the tools necessary then it could make sense for the 100.
I enjoy your passion for the game. Man if you’re ever up north near the CT/RI border for spring or fall run striped bass in the surf or Oct/Nov tog give me a shout. Easy enough to find on f b. - Fluke
@@fishingistherapy I found your page and wrote. I’ll send ya some info. And know a kayaker you should know > Eric Harrison. He’s like prostaff for hobie and all but doesn’t act like a prostaffer. Real good guy. I bet you’d love the surf up here too. Maybe one o the days.
@flukeskywalker7947 Man's thats awesome. I bet the surf up there would be amazing. Eric sounds like a good guy! One day I will make the make the trip up there and we can give them sore lips!
Yes you can, their is a trolling motor mount that Pelican sells. I hear its nice but you lokely will need a trolling motor arm extension so it doesnt make your arm uncomfortable reaching backwards.
I used an anchor rope, cut to a comfortable reach length and linked it to a work out band handle. I then tied it to the handle at the bow. Here is the link to the handle. HPYGN Cable Machine Handles,... www.amazon.com/dp/B0BFDTD51D?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is a really stable platform compared to many on the market. I didn't have it balanced correctly but yes, they are more tippy than pontoon bass raider or etc due to not being as wide.
@thomasdegroof1004 That would be hard to say, I haven't experienced many other kayaks, but the Pelican Catch Series likely has the most stable kayaks on the market at their price point.
Honestly it really comfortable. Give your legs a break and I like casting from the folded seat position better than sitting down the standard way. It feels more stable that way.
No I haven't, just to fish right in front of a Hydroelectric dam that was running full power and this yak performed admirably. Check out the video, it's my most recent video.
@@fishingistherapy I wish I did. This is my first ever kayak and have no idea about paddles or MANY of the kayaking accessories. I just bought a cheaper option off Amazon and I'm hoping that I can get out soon enough to see how it works for me.
@urmom69610 Apologies I though you were talking about another seat. Yes I love the sit on top option, that is a deciding factor as to why I purchased it. Your right it makes standing so easy and offers relief on the back.
I would be content to know that I got more value and features for my money. That's a good deal, but it also depends on what features that you want in a yak.
