Everyone thinks it rains all the time in Oregon... But does it really? In this video, I talk a little bit about the weather in this beautiful state.

Many out of state people don't realize just how diverse Oregon really is. Many people I've talked to think it's just Portland. We have cities, towns, coast, desert, forest, mountains, a little of everything here. Just going from Portland to Bend is such a huge difference once you cross the Cascade mountains. I went rafting with my brother and his friends long ago on the Deschutes out in the desert. I'm not an outdoors person but the scenery was amazing! And yes we get a metric ton of rain here, but when I was in Tampa, Florida, it rained almost daily for several minutes. It's not like we live in constant rain. Also thank you for pronouncing Oregon correctly.

True enough, however, when it's still raining in June and the rest of the country is enjoying the start of summer, that sucks.

Live in Oregon, grew up here. The climate has changed a lot in the last 60 years. When my grandparents were young, they saw Model T's drive on the frozen Columbia River. When my parents were young, they ice skated on sloughs on the Columbia, when I was a kid, we played on frozen over ponds from November through February. Now, nothing freezes over hard enough to support human weight all winter long. BTW, the reason why Oregonians say it rains all the time is to keep people from other states from moving here.

as someone who is from Oregon I can confirm in the winter and fall it is very rainy and in the summer it is very dry

9 months a year isn't "all the time", but it's pretty close if you live in Portland and the Willamette Valley. Winters are too long, summers too short.

I love the rain too. The dry summers in Southern Oregon are a struggle for me.

Thank you for the video! I might be moving to grants pass soon from Utah! Wondering how the humidity compares since Utah is like the 3rd driest state in the US which I love personally haha.

For about the past fifteen years the the average precipitation in the Willamette Valley has been dropping dramatically--and alarmingly. Per NOAA statistics the annual average in Eugene was 45 or 46 inches until about 2005. For the 15 year period from 2006 to 2020 inclusive, the annual average fell to about 37 inches, and since 2020 we have been topping out in the low 30s. For the current rain year ending 9/30/23 we're on track for an annual precipitation amount of about 28 inches. Summers are dry, scorching, and brutal. Don't think it rains in the summer based on what you read in the Wiki article; it really doesn't. Portland seems to be an exception likely because of the marine effect.

Does oregon get really cold?

It depends on the area. The cities along I-5 have mild winters (I’d say it averages about 40F during winter where I live in Grants Pass & we only get a dusting or two of snow per year). The coast has mild winters also. Bend gets really cold, though. Anywhere in the mountains will get a lot of snow.

Depends on what you consider cold. If you are from the south, TX, FL, GA, etc... then yes, it is. In the winter it can easily get into the teens for a several days, but not weeks. I was outside a few days ago (March 2023), my phone showed 49F, it felt warmer, sun was out, and I was wearing sweat pants and a shirt, no jacket, totally comfortable.

@@babynieve9612 Do you mean to visit or live? Visiting isn't horrible, it really depends on which town. Buying a home can definitely be expensive because most towns aren't very big, there is limited housing, and more retirees are moving there.
