DOES IT SOUND BETTER ? New location for SOUND module in my electric RC SPITFIRE !
AVAILABLE HERE: uk.banggood.co...
After James brought his Flightline Spitfire down to the flying field with its retrofitted New Sense Hobby ESS-AIR V2.0 sound module I had to give it a go. Arrived from Banggood in just over a week but I installed the transducers in the wings on thin ply hidden by the air intakes. Does it sound better ?

They actually fit right onto the wing on the front half of the scoop, I just had to cut a hole in for the wire on mine. Works beautifully!

Well, I think it’s a fabulous idea and really lends atmosphere to that beautiful model. Thanks Dom for experimenting.👍

A great addition to the hobby, audio cosmetics! It seems silly but I really do like the idea of realistic sound effects in the scale rc world.

I think placing the sytem in the fuselage is better because it uses the fuselage as a "resonator" to amplify the volume and spreads the sound in all directions. I have mine placed on the bottom of the fuselage on my 1.6m two engine plane and its not bad. I think to find the best spot for placement there is quite some testing necessary. Additionaly, imho foam planes are not optimal for such a sytem because foam dampens a lot of the sound. It would be interesting to hear what such a system can do in plane with fiberglass fuselage.

I agree, I think James is louder. But its weird because at certain angles, Dom, your system is louder, and others James is. I think James has the benefit of having the installation up front, and the forward section has better acoustics. I think the under wing cowls dont let the sound bounce around enough. Also the system on James tends to drown out the sound of the electric motor a little more. Im no sound engineer so, I dont know how you could improve it. Interesting video though, good watching.

Great flying, its indeed better with any sound ...i have the same spit, but i am trying another soundsystem, but will place the transducers in front aswell...the thicker the polystyreen, the better the sound !..want to put gun sound in it aswell, with lights...when i'm done i'll make a video aswell, thanks for sharing, love your channel,God bless from the Netherlands!

I would love to see the actual video of the modification. I was just thinking of placement for the speakers on this particular plane and the air intakes seems to be the perfect spot

I have had the ess sound system in my HK B17 for 3 years, It sounds good on start up , taxi , take off, landing and warm down, The big fuselage on the B17 creates a better hollow sound box and vibrating surface for in flight sound and I suspect your location acts more as a sound deadener than a sound amplifier ? Sound is just waves of air, the vibration of the transducer creates the waves . I suspect you need a thin mounting board that can vibrate more freely and that your unit is too rigidly fixed. The more free air volume you have in front of the unit the more chance you have for the sound waves to be created ( big waves and small waves )and the greater sound frequency range/volume you will create. Well that is my theory. Its either that or turn up the volume button !!! Have fun finding the G spot ?

Thanks Paul. I think you're right. B-17 sounds ideal. Wish I had tried that when I had one. Not many options in this Spitfire to install the transducers. The rear section of the fuselage isn't hollow. Fun to experiment though.

@@EssentialRC I have that Flightline spitfire Don, I looked at the possibility when I bought it a couple of years ago but could not find a suitable spot for one, let alone 2 transducers so I decided against it. No doubt you will find a different model to have a go with .

@@paulrkytek6587 Two transducers do fit in the forward fuselage of the FL Spit either side of the lipo. Suspect same with Avios.

I got excited about this video. I was interested to see if sound boards for R/C model planes had got any better than what I recall from many years ago. I really thought with all the technological advancements in miniature electronics that your video would reveal just that. To my surprize I don't think they have improved at all. Regardless of where you put yours compared to your friends I am not at all impressed. They still suffer from a lack of volume and the guns may sound like real ones but are almost totally indistinguishable from the engine noise. I did see a video online of radio transmitter that emitted engine noise and effects even to the point of being able to assimilate the distance of sound compared to how far away the model was. Sad though as I can not find the video now and have not seen anything like it since. Maybe your sources can find it? Any way still a good video and you are by far the best R/C channel on line in my opinion. Well done.

I agree. A sound system that can fit in an RC plane is never going to be anything like as good as the sound system in your living room. Speakers need to be bigger and heavier than an RC plane can manage.

You might want to try drilling a dozen or so holes in the plywood (if that's not to difficult) and give it another go. Great video as usual guys.

better than not having it, that kind of depends on how it effect flight time, all that sound stuff uses onboard power

I have this sound sytem in a 1.6m two engine plane. It's powered by an additional 2s 850mAH lipo which will last forever (well, very long...) and weights about 50 grams

They're a great concept, but this one sounds like my electric battery mower that has a very dodgy main bearing LOL. I thought the technology might have moved on a bit. Perhaps attaching the sound system to a lipo and parallel bound receiver then sticking it down your trousers would give a better local effect :-)))

What is the plane, just got up so I may be confused. Looks like my avios spitfire, has split flaps.....but has the guns from my dynam spitfire. It definitely lands like the avios, cause it didn't nose over, or was that just raw skill. Nice noise by the way. Andy in uk.

It's actually the 1.6m FlightLine Spitfire from Motion RC but it would fit in the Avios equally well.

no pal. That’s not how you get the best sound from a transducer - speaker down, not up. Transducers turn the fuselage into a speaker so although you can get away with the transdicer as a speaker (like you have it), you would be very surprised if you turned them around, that said, sound great pal!

Ya no shit if you want it too sound like an internal combustion engine, then use an internal combustion engine. I’ll stick with my 4 stroke glow and 2 stroke gasoline engines for sound. Don’t get me wrong, half my airplanes are electric. But I much prefer flying my glow and gasoline aircraft.
