First Flights Review of the PHI SCALA 2 LIGHT Paraglider! Light paragliding wing that has been developed for hike and fly races like the Red Bull X-alps. How does it compare to its competitors?
The SCALA 2 light is a light EN C 2 liner paraglider with flat aspect ratio 6.77 and 78 cells, certified EN C and LTF D (as LTF still doesn't allow folding lines for LTF C flight testing). Currently the SCALA 2 light is the lightest EN C certified 2 liner paraglider there is.
Carlo tested the SCALA 2 light in size 19 (CWR 75-100 kg, SWR 75-95 kg, EWR 95-100 kg). He flew it with the Niviuk Arrow harness in size L, at all-up weights ranging from 90-95 kg.
Carlo says: "For pilots looking for a top performing light EN C wing, there's currently nothing to match it. The next lightest is the AirDesign Volt 4 e.g. size S (80-92 kg) weighs 3.87 kg with the standard 12mm Aramid risers (3.74 kg with spaghetti-style Dyneema risers, which we're not fans of). The Scala 2 Light is lighter than the Volt 4 and offers significantly better performance (and handling). The standard weight Scala 2 (review coming ASAP!) has even better performance, solidity and handling than the Scala 2 Light. "

From PHI Paragliders: "The SCALA 2 light is the evolution of the first version of the SCALA light (X-alps). We tuned on many screws to make it even better in performance, easiness and simplicity. The SCALA 2 is a high level EN C class wing! With it’s high aspect ratio and performance the SCALA 2 stands out of the C class. It is a kind of game changer."
