I played two years of college basketball in these and so did about 75% of the country playing at Nike schools. At the time, 2001 & 2002, they were one of the best shoes on the market. We knew they were a gimmick but they definitely do basketball. I'm 39 now and I'd hoop in them for sure.
I'm 33. The best thing about this shoe was the look. It looks nice. I still have it, but I don't dare to wear it. it felt very good when I play basketball. Overall, the problem with the Shox series was the durability. the sole got separated and the shox got broken so soon and it became unwearable. even though I was a huge VC fan, for this reason (and the high price of the shoes), I've never bought another VC Shox after that.
Dudes, we survived the og BB4 shox era on the blacktop.. no torn Achilles no torn ACL.. a few bloody lip here and there but the BBall memories were priceless!
This is NOT the same shoe manufactured in 2001. I am a collector and I just bought the new version and it’s cheap made. The shox is much harder on the new version, and the whole shoe is much bulky now. There are a lot of finishing details that are WRONG in the new version. Please, take a look if you have one: where the silver and black leather connects to the front sole, there is a line that is misplaced. That and many other details. I think I’m going to write a review with images, cause I have both versions never worn. It would be great for comparison.
Youre right so many things are different on this one. I had this same shoe year 2000. There are 4 white dots in the heel instead of just 3 and the insole pad is blue.
I had the OG’s back in the day (the grey and red ones) and these guys described them to a T. They may have been different materials back then but they were just as hard and clunky as the new ones. I always hoped Nike would refine the shox and at least have them perform the way they looked like they should, even sponge-y would have been preferable to concrete.
These dudes put way to much emphasis on a shoe and how they think it affects the way you play ball, from the way they talk youd think it was impossible for anyone play ball prior to 10-15 yrs ago...I get its a shoe channel but stop implying a shoe has so much outcome on your game.
I played with these shoes in 02. In my opinion, Durability was the main problem. When I jump high and land I did not feel that much pressure compares to other shoes and I felt my ankle was very well protected by the shoe. I think that was the whole point of the shoe. In Carter Effect documentary Lebron James and Drake mentioned they have a pair of the shoe. Everyone in the US was crazy about the shoe because of VC popularity.it looks so aesthetic and different.
Back in the day I think they had a carbon fibre support between the shox and the zoom air. So from memory these shoes need a decent amount of wearing in for a good heel to toe feeling. But for one legged jumps it's a positive.
I had them back in the day they had more cushion around the ankle. His look too big. That flat forefoot was cool for hooping in a lot of shoes in the early 00s were like that
Sang Nguyen lam Edward is right. I have a pair I’ve been balling in for a year and they’re nice and much softer. I just bought the 2019 bb4s a week ago and they’re pretty stiff.
I have them for ball, they aren't bad. Not the best either. In 2020 there's a lot of better shoes to play ball in, but I got these for $65, so I couldn't resist.
I like the black and purple of this shoes cant deny this one but i would definitely grab the black and purple cause its reminiscing my highschool days way back befor playing basketball and i was like want to fucking jump in a big dude and dunk on!!!
The Shock Pillars are a very dense Poly Urethane Foam. I have the original pair and the Shock Pillars crumbled over the years and it's like the mid-sole of Air Jordan 3 only much, much denser that's why it felt like plastic.
Vince Carter is my Michael Jordan growing up. It sucks that his shoe isn't that great. I'd wear it for daily use if it was at least comfortable to walk in but its NOT! Lol
I had just purchased a pair, then I decided to look them up on RU-vid. After I watched video ... I canceled my order. They look cheap/hard. 👍🏽 you saved me some $$$
this retro is complete garbage compared to the original OG. I have 2 colour ways of the original. black white and black silver. both are better than the retro. I can't feel the retro forefoot zoom unit, it hurts my knees where as the OG NEVER did. retro heel slips, OG fits forefoot and rear perfectly! there were way more forefoot upper padding in the OG. dont buy this retro. It's only a visual representation. performance? it's garbage!
This shox literally screw Vince Carter career. Imagine playing this shoes for 82 games a year, every year. No wonder his legs are fragile, he was supposed to be the next Jordan back in raptors!
