Using the tractor with grapple makes removing 5+ dead trees from our church property fairly easy. Tractor Time with Tim and Johnny X (turbocharged John Deere 1025R) help our friends Chris and Sandy. The Stihl combi boom really cleans up the little limbs left behind.

That was AWESOME!! I always love a grapple video! Also I'm always impressed with how much such a small tractor.... (even when turbocharged) can handle. The battery Stihl chainsaw and even more the power broom also impress me! I'm not convinced on battery mowers, and weed whackers in a commercial setting, but stuff like chainsaws, and hedge trimmers definitely have a lot of positives! GREAT VIDEO GUYS!! Be well.

@advil000 Год назад
We use one of our electric chainsaws for just about everything now. The gas saw only comes out when we need the 24" bar or are going to buck a whole ton of prepped logs at once. For land work where you'd have to start and stop the gas saw a hundred times while you take down small trees and stack them for burning or chipping the electrics just win hands down. No hearing protection required and just pick it up and cut... no pull to start every time. 40v saws are crazy capable these days.

I never pulled the trigger on the wheel kit for my Stihl broom. I talked to my dealer yesterday about a grapple. Giving up on the Artillian I really wanted even though I have the frame. I have noticed before but as soon as this video started, I was blown away by the audio quality.

One technique I've been using all summer (once I discovered it) for pulling out felled trees from narrow spaces is to come at the tree from the end (trunk end is usually best but either end works). With my grapple there is a central tooth and a pair of upper clamping plates about 3" apart, centered above the central lower tooth. Basically I stick the central tooth under the tree, clamp down the grapple, raise the loader a bit and back up in 4wd, low range. I can pull out huge trees using this technique. My grapple also has corner teeth that I can use if I need the tractor coming at the tree at an angle (for example if a tree needs to be pulled out of the bush and onto a narrow laneway to be cut up). With the corner teeth there is only an upper plate clamping down on a single edge tooth so I can rotate the tractor to keep it on a laneway if needed without stressing the grapple. Does the geometry on the Precision grapple allow you to do this?

Tim. Thanks to you and Johnny X I want more power. I am still amazed what my stock 1025r can do. Have been cutting firewood for over 30 years. Unfortunately I am 30 years older than I was when I started and can't do what I could do before. Thinking the 1025 is giving me a much better shot at staying with it for quite a few more years.
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim Год назад
I suspect this is the #1 driver of small tractor sales. As we get older, we have more money than energy, and we want to keep doing the same things. Not sure how seriously you are into firewood, but you might find a 3R to be more suitable.

@@TractorTimewithTim I just cut and burn our own stuff. Have 5 Neighbors all in a row that have dead ash trees. So just me an the guy right next door do the best we can trying to keep us all from getting killed with the trees falling over and breaking off. Tight in the woods and that was one thing after seeing your videos on the turning radius of the 1025. Even it is hard to get through at times. But is great most of the time. Like I think you said a little tractor can do what a big tractor can do just takes longer. Still fun. So for long as I can help others and it doesn't kill me I'll keep at it. I'm amazed that the tiny JD could lift and move those huge, heavy tree trunks. I see how there is no "one-size-fits-all-jobs" grapple. Each style of grapple can out perform all others when it's used for it's created purpose but lags behind when asked to perform tasks for which it was not built for. Like you mentioned in a video... It would be great to have 2 or 3 different style grapples for those different jobs around the property but at $1000 - $2500 a pop one will have to suffice.

On Johnny X is it the extra hydraulic power, the turbocharger or a combination of the two that gives it the extra lift capacity for these large logs? Also, how did the front end loader fair after the day?
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim Год назад
Raising the hydraulic pressure.
@LivingCommonSense
@LivingCommonSense Год назад
@Jim - The turbo by itself doesn't do anything to raise the hydraulic power. There is a hydraulic pressure regulator under the rear fender that Tim and crew turned up to increase the hydraulic pressure; long before he had the turbo installed. With the pressure turned up, Johnny X would have probably lifted the logs ok without the turbo. At stock pressures, the engine on the 1025r barely loads up before the loader has reached max weight lift. I think where the turbo will shine is when Tim puts some bigger attachments on the rear PTO like a bigger hay baler or 6-8' bush hog. Johnny X will need all the mods, higher hydraulic pressure to lift the bush hog and the turbo HP to turn it.
