I read earlier that NASCAR is implementing that the cars put air vents on the right side rear window, so the air escapes faster to help prevent the flips. I believe a net on the right door would be better. If flaps were installed on the bottom to open when the car begins to flip, it would definitely return to the upright position. I also read about your praise to Dr. Hubbard Kenny, for the HANS device saving your life in 2019. Must have been a terrifying experience. On EssentialSports was also repeating you, concerning the CAUTIONS, causing restart crashes. Hopefully your channel will make an impact on all the madness for the better. Great video!🏁🏆
I was a corner worker/safety inspector at our local dirt track and we had a hard time getting the drivers to have fire extinguishers in their cars. They claimed that they can break loose from their cheapo mounts and become missiles in the car. We told them to put a wrap of duck tape around it and fold over the end to make a grip flap so you can get it off of the extinguisher. A street stockers rear axle broke and he flipped about 3 times and landed on the roof. Gas started pouring out of the carb and it caught on fire. He grabbed his extinguisher and put his car out. The reason his axle broke is because he had pinched his brake line off on the left rear so "the car would set up better". Moral of the story if you have an extinguisher in your car it might give you a few seconds to get out. Thanks Kenny for bringing me back 40 years. Those were the days-
It's all about angles and how quickly these guys get turned (and that flat bottom doesn't help). That's the common denominator on most of the roof flap era flips. Sometimes they tip over and roll, sometimes they fly... and it's all because of how quickly they get tagged and turned at certain speeds. The roof flaps have eliminated the lazy slide and fly of the past like Rusty, Davey, etc. Corey is really lucky he scrubbed off a lot of speed before hitting that grass.
Thats a fact and its 100% Correct. I dont get why people blow a casket over somthing like this its nothing new. Ive flipped many times in my sim racing games lol. Racing anything with wheels that stuff is just gonna happen. I use to think go karts couldnt flip cause they seem so grounded and designed to stay more so, that way. Ive watched videos of quite a few crashes and most of the time the karts spin out or hit a barrier and come to a abrupt stop. Eventually in time i saw a few videos of them flipping and man it looks scary. I saw 1 video where a guy lost a few fingers when another kart hit him and raised up aginst his steering wheel. I mean the unexpected can happen at anytime thats the risk racers take for there passion and joy of the sport. Until you said somthing Kenny it didnt even occur to me about being able to break your neck upside down. I have so much respect for drivers like yourself facing the dangers of racing everytime they get into a car. Great video though keep up the great work!!!
Rico pulled Tim Kaeting from a burning sprint car in the 2014 Trophy. Glad we don't have to have a Memorial race called the Herman Roast! Thanks Gordy.
Maybe I'm nieve , but seeing a racecar flip, doesn't give me anxiety.. I never think the worst .. Much rather see the car flipping than a sudden impact . Racing is dangerous, it'll always have that factor.. My opinion, flipping will always be apart of that equation , no matter the design of the car or safety features in place.
Flipping is getting rid of energy. Just like shedding parts. It's the sudden stops on point load points that don't absorb energy or total side impacts into the wall that sends the G meters off the scale. Jerry Nadaue's practice crash, hitting flat against the drivers side door, would have almost certainly killed him had he not been airlifted to a trauma center that had a brain injury specialist right there. As it was they gave a very small chance to live. Seeing the wreck unless you understood how you get killed in such wrecks you would not have thought it was so bad. Jerry had a very long recovery from probably the highest G impact NASCAR has ever recorded. Hopefully with softballs and newer cars, drivers should never see such an accident at Cup level tracks and cars.
@@tylermathis-kx7pu well of course.. I'm old enough to remember Bobby Allison's wreak. I'm not saying no flip has ever made me nervous, or that nothing should be done. I think if your looking for a solution however to get that number down to zero, it's unrealistic.
We had a burning barrel and when it got going hot my brothers and I always peed on the barrel. We didn’t know mom had put hairspray in the trash. When it blew we all rolled over and spun getting away so I know what you talking bout. You always make it sound real and we luv you in Virginia!! Ed from Lynchburg
Mr. Wallace. I would appreciate it if you did not flip again. Selfishly in enjoy you too much so try not and flip please. God bless you and your family.
I was at the track in Quincy that night and witnessed the whole crash. Hermie was giving a interview with the track personel (Kenny) while his car was in flames behind him. It was an awesome sight. So glad Hermie was safe!!!
It gives me the ebgb's thinking about it, racing in the cruiser class 1970 Delta 88 455 what a POS I think I had a swing set for a roll cage damm Herm you bring up uncomfortable predicaments 😂 but somebody has to Safety 1st
Fire is no joke, been in two racing fire incidents. Hey Herm, I just saw on the schedule, are you going to he here at Gold Cup on Saturday afternoon? I'll come say hi if you are
That race car moving sideways is basically an aircraft wing. You would think that as much as Nascar uses airplanes someone would notice this. Loving Nascar Now.
I like the Kyle Busch quote about the Ryan Preece flip. He said when you look at the bottom of these cars, it's a piece of plywood. There's no wonder that happens.
I have witnessed a few racers dying from flames. You're right Kenny, that's horrible. You know what else was horrible? Watching a sprint car driver die under caution because of a broken drive shaft under the seat at The Challenger Raceway. He was coming down the front stretch.
The cause of the flip was due to head wind + a hole created at center of the car. As the car is turned 90deg the rear wheels are on the “inclined” racing surface and the front wheel are on the flat non racing surface making the center of the car high at the center. That is when the car start to flip.
All of my dirt and off-road flips were Caused by something Either hitting something or hooking another car truck I have never just taken off like an airplane for no reason that would be scary that’s just another perfect example of down force being overpowered by lift!
Finally!! one of you pod caster s use your toy cars to SHOW what happend (inaccurately but still) ....i'd do that all the time.. fliping over is mostly fine but landing back upright usually hurts the spine the most. not sure if its 100% iron sourced but, Chinese steel sucks.. because it has alot of iron in it.. rusts quicker. and poorer quality. all your homedepot and lowes ace tools and any local parts store parts... all Chinese unless otherwise specified. (-cheap Chinese rusty part)
The drivers know and have been an incredibly competitive driver know roll overs happen. If the people watching can't handle it while the competitors can turn the channel
I watched a limited late model flip exactly how you described Corey's wreck. And that was at dells raceway park in wi. A 1/3 mile asphalt track. Anything can happen like you said. BTW speaking of dells raceway I like the dick trickle pennant, he was and still is an icon there
I really did feel like they were eventually going to have a problem with that. Are we calling the diverter? I don’t know that undercar solid wing. Will be an issue until they put some big holes in it just my opinion!
Kenny your story is to close to home. I'm sure you don't remember. But look up Ryan Bard 2007 imca. After that IMCA made the fuel cell mandatory for flapper valve. I don't know if that's still the rule or not. But damn I MISS MY SON.😢
You have zero idea about aerodynamics if you think the reason the cars are flipping is because of the flat base. The flat base reduces air turbulence under the car which keeps the velocity up and the pressure down. If the base of the car is not flat, the is more air turbulence and therefore slower moving air and therefore more pressure... The roll is initiated by the lift that is created by the air moving over the hood and roof of the car (watch the onboard footage and have a look at the hood flexing as if it's trying to be sucked off the car. The non-flat parts of the flat underbody are what is stalling the air when the car gets sieways and creating excess pressure as well..
Cars have always flipped and always will. You cannot control simple inertia and air. Plus, flipping is the safest way a driver can crash. Flipping reduces momentum. Its the sudden stops that hurt drivers.
At the speeds these cars run, they are going to flip ,I don't care who your daddy is !!!I have flipped ,someone said fire and I was out-of - there !!! A hole and elbows I was gone !!!!!
Yeah, that proves right there that NASCAR is pretty much just a Formula One car with a NASCAR body on it. That’s how the Formula One cars are built. That’s why NASCAR sucks. There’s no racing. Follow the leader the only way you can pass. Anybody is bump them out of the way.
