I can also attest to this, I speedrun minecraft (although poorly) and inventory management and crafting speed is crucial during speedruns, especially in longer catagories. For RSG in 1.16+, i suppose inventory management isn't the most important thing, but when you go onto catagories like Minecraft all advancements, inventory management becomes more key and that's where 2d aim comes in.

It is not directly transferrable, but osu! made me realize, that focus is very important. After trying to increase my focus in osu for a long time, not only my focus in osu increased, but also in other games like FPS and also real life, like in college listening to the professor. And until then I really didnt realize how important it is, but focus and how long you can maintain it makes such a huge difference everywhere.

I want to add that for people completely new to FPS games, the boost from playing osu! can help immensely when compared to people who also have no prior fps mechanics. I only was at around rank 200k when I transitioned to playing FPS games (Overwatch), but when I looked at my friends who were also new but hadn't any experience in "aim" games, the difference was extreme. Especially in a game like OW where to a complete newbie, there is way too much going on, osu circles jumping everywhere really helped train me to react and process everything and I was able to not only place 3227 (mid-diamond), but actually climb to masters in my first week of playing

As an Osu player and a mouse player, it taught me to use mouse grips and focus made it really fun. But as a aim trainer it could help you slightly on how to do cursor placement , mouse grip , precision and timing. But as a aim trainer barely it can teach you how to shoot and spray a gun properly.

There are a select few factors that you can relate to fps games which is reaction time. Once you are able to play 4* or 5*+ maps, you are already reacting way faster than those who have never touched games before. And also our peripheral vision usage increases because our eyes dont actually follow the cursor and rather we look at the whole screen to react to the circles. It does sort of help mechanical aim in the sense that osu! requires precise movements so its slightly more easy to transition to aim training and mouse flicks with ease. This is how I was able to easily transition to playing CS:GO.
@tappyink

i personally agree with the points brought up i play valorant with a pen, and the aim mechanics are not the same as they are in osu. most of the time it feels like a mouse, evcn though i'm using a stylus to control my crosshair placement. i wouldn't say that osu improved my reaction time in valorant however, but that could be because the targets are visually different than osu! hitcircles.
@NicFleury
@NicFleury 2 года назад
Osu for sure has an effect on aim for me personally, but not for raw aim, osu forces your eyes and brain to pay more attention to the target and less about flicking to the target, and its allowed me to make microajustments in my aim in valorant alot easier and accurately. It also makes tracking slightly more comfortable but it's still hard, that's just my experience though.

when i moved to pc i was god awful in every sense of the word in every shooter i played, so i tried aim trainers but they felt boring then a friend told me to download osu to get "better" and honestly a few months later my aim didn't get insanely better but i was already comfortable with the mnk. what im trying to get at here is that it doesn't make you insanely better at shooters as it doesn't make your mechanics better but it does help you fell more comfortable when playing, flicking and tracking.

Honestly I've thought about this for a bit. I play valorant and I'm ok at the game considering I border on diamond/immortal I recently picked up playing standard osu over the past few months. One thing I feel personally is that whenever I play Osu and move to valorant it influences my aim. It might be because my sens is different in Osu vs. Valorant but whenever I switch I feel like my sens is off which makes me wonder how much of an impact it really does have since aim seems to be mostly mouse control to me at least.

I think a major skill osu! teaches is smooth and efficient aim. You're always moving to your target in the shortest possible way and at a consistent pace. This alone won't make you a pro-aimer in an fps game, but it teaches you an important (and imo the hardest) part of aiming.
@fuy1648
@fuy1648 10 месяцев назад
Not true imo. It just depends on the player. You can find players at any rank who have unnecessarily fast and snappy aim, or curvy aim, or unnecessarily slow and smooth aim, or any combination of traits. I've actually found it difficult to find multiple players who aim the exact same way. If you watch 3 or 4 replays from any 2 players you can usually tell them apart despite how similar they may be. And from personal experience my aim usually looks completely different every few days to adapt to whichever types of maps ive been playing.

I'd be interested in if it significantly helps 'mouse aim' in 2D games as well (MOBAs, RTS, etc.) or if the 'reading' is just so different it's fairly negligible in that too
@faranocks
@faranocks 2 года назад
From my limited knowledge, MOBAs are more about reading and timing rather than aiming. The reading is also super different, and more of a behavioral read rather than a hit circle reading. If you struggle with aiming, osu might help, but I feel like the vast majority of MOBA gamers are not held back by their aim.

Honestly playing osu using graphic tablet did improve overall in games, but it's not because of the aim or something like that, mostly what osu did is helped me with syncing what I want to do with actual actions, meaning that when I do jiggle peak then it's easier for me due to how osu made me be able to sync well. Also osu helped me with control mine anger which is also good for games like Val

The best thing to get better at a particular game is playing the game. Shocking, right? Things like AimLab, Osu! etc can be decent supplements for things like reaction time, becoming more comfortable with your hardware but they cannot solely make you better. If you want to spend hundreds of hours with anything that is supposed to improve your aim, you might as well train it within the game you are looking for, as you will simultaneously improve your game sense, map knowlegde and many more things that are needed almost more than pure aim. You can easily sacrifice a small portion of aim learning in exchange to overall become better at any given game, this counts for literally every single game out there. So stop googling some fancy ways to magically become better and put effort into the game if you want to improve, you will see results way faster once you start to focus on what you want to do.

@johnnywang6635

OSU is great for warmup especially if your a mouse player since it encourages you to move and flick to targets. But it won't make you better at FPS games at most you may feel that you have more control over your mouse from all the jumps and streams which was something I found as my tracking got a little better. To be good at FPS games epsecially games like csgo, valorant, apex, Fortnite, cod etc. You just have to play and gain more experience. Raw aim is not everything but it sure does help (a lot) but experience is more important

well i was told to try it and i suck at osu bc i click the nearest target and i click too fast. i treated it like an aim trainer and tried to hit all the circles as fast as possible but that not how it works. didnt feel like much reaction time was needed since i felt like every target took awhile to actually be clickable. if you wanted to get points that is. thats not to say hard osu stuff doesnt require reaction time but i didnt feel like it was the type that would improve my in game reaction time in a shooter.

Imo people are way too stuck on "aim type", what you train isn't "aim (type)" you train mouse control. And that transfers no matter what you play. Everything else becomes game specific, like crosshair placement, tracking patterns etc. And when you combine mouse control and knowledge what to do = aim . That's why Tenz isn't top ranked in osu and why top ranked players aren't pro in fps games. Also my own experience that Osu + hs dm helped me more than aim trainers like kovaak + dms.

Ofc if you're a turbo nerd who games 20+ hours a week you won't see any improvements. W/e. I'm in the faction that says OSU will help you a lot if you're new to games. Lets say for example, if you're playing on PC for the first time, or if you haven't played in a whole long time due to injury... it will help TREMENDOUSLY with developing your mouse skills. It will just improve your physical endurance and comfort in moving your mouse. Maybe it won't help your aim to get kills... but I think it will help your mindset to get the courage to throw your mouse half way across the mousepad and click on your target at the very least.

Reaction time is almost entirely generic and can only be improved slightly. It’s much more likely that osu! simply increases the average persons ability to properly focus which does transfer to other games and SEEMS like it made your reaction time better even though it didn’t.
