How do sculptors reckon with the buildings that surround their work? Penelope Curtis takes us on a journey along the thin line between art and architecture, looking at Henry Moore and I. M. Pei’s East Building collaboration, Moore’s “Three Motives Against Wall, Number 1,” and Costantino Nivola’s “Widow of Pausania.”
Penelope Curtis is the former director of Museu Calouste Gulbenkian and was the 2021 Edmond J. Safra Visiting Professor at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art.
