For what it's worth, at least it's longer than the RE3 remake. This is hilarious considering that this is the same exact B team that made the RE3 remake.
@@danielgregori7019 talking about 3 not separate ways. I mean the cut multiple choices is a massive cut. Do you know how much content was cut with that alone?
What 'B team'? Blatant misinformation being passed around as fact. No singular team built re3 remake, development was split between 3 different studios combining; redworks, k2 and mtwo. And to further emphasise, the project (3make) was directed by redworks. Separate ways was directed by an individual named 'Yoshinori Kawano' who doesn't represent any of the aforementioned teams. For the record, all 3 teams who worked on re3 remake had a hand with re4 remakes development (the main game that is) to a degree, all working in the supporting role. Even further, Mtwo is credited with an exclusive producer role. In future please fact check before leaving hyperbole, thanks!
I believe they are gonna remake every resident evil game but their doing the main games to build up to RE9 first, the writers are hopefully paying attention to what everyone wants.
Re3 Remake was $60, and I beat it in 5 hours 20 minutes. Separate Ways dlc was $10, and I beat it in 5 hours 48 minutes. Definitely worth more than the entirety of Re3 Remake. Will definitely start another playthrough of Separate Ways. I played Re3R once when it came out and never looked at it again.
After beating RE3R, I immediately booted up the original RE3 and never looked back. Unfortunately, my experience with RE3R killed off my interest/hype for any future remakes in the franchise. Glad to hear RE4R was substantially better for those who bought it though.
I guess getting cut content back as DLC and thus getting a full remake for over 60$ is better than never getting cut content back, like with the 2nd and the 3rd remakes
@@steelbear2063 I'm just glad it was only $10. That's why I'm not upset about it. I wish Re2 Remake at least had a whole 1 hour 30 minute section in the B Scenario roaming the city at beginning to have the time line up with Scenario A being in the police station collecting medallions. Then have all tge doors be unlocked with even more enemies almost like Hunk's mode. Re3 Remake.... yea pretty much the whole game is a disgrace except for the combat and gameplay. Only part that was decent was from when you meet Mikhail until you leave on the train. Everything before that had me wanting the game to magically end. I'm glad that dogshit was short
we not need mr.x in every resident evil now, on re4 you could use mendez roaming village or verdugo in the castle, but as a linear game wouldn't be great like re2. i wish re8 dimitrescu castle was bigger tho, with all that she got on trailers, i expected at least 2/5 of the game in her castle
22:14 To be fair, it's the Plaga taking control over Krauser's body since Krauser himself seems no longer there, he only grunts and his only line is "Come on.". I saw this as making sure he's FINALLY gone to Hell while his body is no longer a puppet. Also, you forgot the RPD costume is FINALLY added in RE4make. Meaning Leon has all of his OG costumes, but Ashley is still missing the pop star outfit.
I 100% agree with the build-up to the U3 boss fight, specially with us playing as Ada, it would have made so much sense and would have been pretty cool. My guess though is probably that they didn't want the average player to go through a 3 phase boss, and the section might have come off as monotonous and overly challenging to dodge a enemy that can insta-kill you. Though with Krauser, well that's a big disagree, to start off having Krauser face Ada after his battle with Leon would have absolutey ruined Leon's final fight with him, taking away much agency from his death, and well, the same goes if Krauser had any connection with Wesker, he would just end up as a self-centered lackey for Wesker again, not the fallen mentor/disillusioned soldier, which I think works way better for him honestly.
You can have Krauser be a fallen mentor and work for Wesker at the same time. In Krauser's own words he's after absolute power. Wesker would 100% be able to provide for that more than Saddler ever could.
@@RubyofBlue I don't personally see him as actually being after absolute power, I see that more as a coping mechanism, and although working with Wesker would work for how the story plays out in the remake, I do think that it adds what would be unnecessary filler to the character, his motivations have little to do with Saddler's plan if anything at all, he seems very much like a desperate solo act to lure Leon so that he could have a final death at the hands of someone he respects. So again adding Wesker to the mix, although it wouldn't change the story at all, it would end up being a "oh he wasn't actually working for Saddler but for Wesker, plot twist!" which seems rather redundant.
@@RubyofBlue It worked for the original because his motivations were completely different, for this interpretation of the character it doesn't really add much.
The reason you want to maintain that element of triple-crossing Krauser had, is because personally I think it's way more believable for him to go along with the plans of Wesker than crazy-ass Saddler, to the ends of obtaining power. Two because it allows him to interact with Ada which made for fun dynamics that would have been best to be fleshed out in the remake, not to mention give Separate Ways here more to work with. And lastly, because as it doesn't matter to his improved characterization in this remake who he works for, there's no reason to dumb down this dimension of the story in a remake - it just makes Krauser come off like an easily swayed buffoon, which is a far cry from the potential of fleshing out Krauser playing everyone as a means of making himself more powerful.
Regarding the “crane game” being cut, I think Ashley now being able to drop enemies like a Regeneradore down a chasm, using the drawbridge at 20:57, is meant to be a stand-in for that brief gag from the original. That is, unless the Original RE4 also gives you a chance to drop enemies down with a drawbridge and I just forgot. When Ada has to escape the giant drill trap in the remade “Separate Ways”, the way she needs to shoot those symbol panels to escape seems an element combined from Salazar’s falling-spike-ceiling trap in the original. I also think that Martinico’s chase interweaving with the laser corridor may have been intended as an equivalent to the original U-3’s chase across the cargo rigs. Though, I think U-3’s chase was executed significantly better, making this more a case of “downgraded” content rather than necessarily “cut” content. Finally, as for Krauser’s fight with Ada in the original “Separate Ways”, I could take it or leave it. For me, the fact that RE4 Remake turned the knife duel QTEs into an actual boss fight with Krauser meant that we already have two separate gameplay encounters with Krauser in total. So that helped me to not feel short-changed by the lack of Ada’s fight with Krauser, on top of me finding it more meaningful for Krauser to stay dead after his confrontation with Leon. Though, if the RE4 Remake retained the non-canon “Assignment Ada” mode and greatly differentiated its gameplay from that of “Separate Ways”, then that could have been a good opportunity to give Ada her own fight against Krauser (like in the original’s AA/SW), without it interfering with the canon story.
Imo they should do another seperate ways part for luis's part of the story that he was doing, I would say krauser too considering what he had going on but his wouldnt work as well cause thered be no reason for ganados to attack him
15:27 Ideas like this are cool for a first time playthrough but for subsequent speedruns it'd be annoying as all hell. These games are stressful enough it's nice to have a little linear breather instead of having to dread every section of the game
Those that have played the original (2005) Resident Evil 4 will understand that the remakes dlc separate ways somewhat picked/made up for what the main story was missing besides the fact of it being just about 15 hours to complete without a speedrun and slow puzzle solving😎😎
One of the reasons why i am quite conflicted with the story and character changes is that Capcom keeps hiring western writers instead of writing the games on their own. I genuenly can't understand why on the last 6 years Capcom of Japan lost interest in the characterization and plot of the games when they put so much effort in the past.
I only play 3 when I feel like blasting through the entire remake trilogy and I hate every minute of it but to show my wife and my kid when he's older I'll have to suffer again
I liked the gameplay aspect of SW but I don't like how they did some of the narrative changes. The additions are nice like having a separate pursuer specific to ada. I'm still not on board with the cutting of "it" to justify it however. Same thing with the laser room which has always been leon's boulder punch. Its cut content from a 19 yr old game being resold to a dlc side character. That's horrible precedent for future remakes and just incentivizes repurposing of cut content for dlc. Not saying a dlc shouldn't use content from the og but only including it in dlc when it should've been baseline experience is not a good approach. My biggest gripe is Wesker going boots on the ground to save ada as it completely ruins the plot. If Wesker was there then why doesn't he just get his hands dirty since he's much more qualified than anyone on the island to get what he desires? Its not like he's been shown not to get his hands dirty either. I always had the impression that he had his own matters to attend to so Ada was sent which works much better. It just reeks of "lets show wesker because fans love their favorite villain." The plot wasn't strong in og but they tried to improve it and actually made it make less sense imo.
I really can't understand why Ada's EN voice is such a big issue, it's underwhelming I know but it's ultimately a non-factor as you can switch to the Japanese voice-over and have a much better voice. I know this doesn't improve nor changes the EN's voice but at least you're not hearing it anymore.
It's not delivered well but it fits her character alot better. She's way colder, professional and short with everyone. Much more fitting for someone in her role.
this is a redundant video... the question in the title is plain STUPID.... but, since you asked, the answer is, YES... Separate Ways completes RE4R in every way possible...
The reason that the RE2, RE4 remakes are weaker than the originals is because the new people at Capcom have abandoned the original story behind Leon and Ada's relationship.
I actually got used to Ada's voice throughout the game. She just seems like a different character than the original. She's more distant and professional. Just wants to focus on the job and get out. You also see her humanity shine through a few times with Luis and Leon, even maybe a pity look at Ashley. Just thought it was great the more time you spend with her.
I agree!! I love her voice, some lines i feel like could be performed a bit better - but thats on the whole directing team, not just the actress herself. I do think ppl were so dramatic when initially hearing her in the remake on release. If anything, i dislike wesker's voice so much and am surprised ppl rately mention his peformance.
i think her voice is really good, except for some lines, most of her performance reflects her professionalism and need to be cold, specially while being close to leon. she's also kind of sarcastic. i like her voice a lot
The truck that has been cut from the game is actually in the remake although it's not working anymore, after defeating big chess there's a truck parked at the bridge near the tree Ps. Rpd costume can be unlock through finishing s+ all characters in every map
30:19 You failed to mention that Wesker was actually going to be played by DC Douglas, his RE5 actor, but he leaked RE4make’s existence, as well as concept art of Wesker, on a livestream, leading him to be promptly fired by Capcom and replaced by Craig Burnatownski, his new actor.
@@MrAnimasonI didn’t say they were. If you actually read what I said, it was pretty clear that I stated a third of the US population would be without a job if they were discovered to be misogynists and misandrists. I will say that most people aren’t the perfect human beings that they think they are-that they portray to the rest of the world. If we judged everyone based on who they actually are… none of us would have jobs or social medias or anything at all.
@@karascrow Yeah but 1/3 is still a fuck ton of people. I think way less than 1/3 of people are misogynist. It's actually not that hard to not be a garbage human being when it comes to thinks like race or gender.
I will say yes I’m an Ada Fan. With that said I think she is top Tier over all other Women in Resi. I did not mind her voice in RE4OG. 4Make Ada is more asian rooted her voice fits way better and actually sounds like an Asian girl. My girlfriend is Asian and she sounds like this. It’s not Flat it’s how they talk. We all have our opinions, but I think her voice in her character was perfect. I have no issue with it better yet, I wouldn’t even change it.
@@bipolarexpress9827 no because the og game was the very first to get a remake if you include that with these remakes that still makes sense (apart from the face-lift)
Yeah, I don't understand the issue with that either. Iconic or not, something so inconsequential in the original game doesn't need to be more fleshed out. It would just become unnecessary fluff
I cant disagree more with the point about Ada's voice/personality change. I LOVE the presentation of her as an overwhelmingly efficient and deadly spy (Grappling Hook Kung Fu says a *lot*)---and i think what would naturally come with that is a deficit in emotion and empathy. It presents Ada as more of a walking weapon learning to feel for another character
After seeing how great RE4make is, it makes me even sadder that 2 and 3 got such dog-water remakes by comparison. (Even if 2 was still a good game despite the bullshit cuts and changes.)
They do say you can't improve without making mistakes. And RE2 and 3 were the mistakes that were sadly needed to make RE4 as great as it was. Thought I do wish there were sliders for the motion aiming. It's great that they added it, but it still needs some work
@@5starjellyfish I mean i don't regret them coming out. I enjoyed them. Although i would kill for an RE3 DLC! (I think RE2 is almost perfect as it is, maybe just one update to the B Scenario to make it a bit more different?) I actually like remakes more when they are different. This means i can still go back and play the OGs if i want. 1:1 Remakes are so boring in comparison.
@joshtheryuk I know, I was mostly joking before. 😅 But yea, sometimes remaking a game is important cuz maybe the original hasn't been preserved all that great or isn't nearly accessible to everyone. Sometimes the OG hasn't even aged all that well at all (i.e. OG RE1). I think if players nowadays get to experience the exact same kinds of content in OG (only more fleshed out and improved than before), then I feel it's only a net positive.
This game very much surpasses my expectations and I was wondering why they would remake RE4 but it works. I always liked RE5 and I’m excited how they will expand with the technology like they did RE4. Everything About RE4 was great I do agree with the voice acting with Ada I actually liked her in RE2R. I just hope RE5R doesn’t turn out like RE3R (one of my favorite games got the short end of stick sadly).
Personally I didn’t see the yellow paint as anything more than an accessibility tool. Even though I can see it just fine, albeit with my glasses because I’m near-sighted, I can see the yellow paint helping those with visual impairments. More contrast = Better visual clarity if you don’t see very well. It’s only speculation on my end, though, because I’m fortunate enough to not have color blindness and my bad vision is helped with glasses Also while I do agree that Ada’s line delivery left a lot to be desired in the remake, it’s important to note that it’s almost never the voice actor’s fault. It’s almost entirely on the director to, well, direct. No direction leads to what we got in re4make
If I was Ada - I'd use the I.R.I.S. to determine the real boss from the 'visions'. I doubt the low level of infection (considering she fights the boss no problem) would be so complex and thorough that it would also mimic the graphical interface of that tech.
It would be cool if she could see a plagasite before hand. That way it's be an interesting decision to decide to bifurcate their body to prevent plagas.
I disagree on Krauzer, I'm very happy that they cut the Krauser fight - it was personal to Leon, and the original SW just robs him of his victory over a former comrader, and it would've been even worse in the remake
If you think about it, as an agent like Ada wouldn't it be beneficial to be emotionless and basically a machine as to not compromise the mission? That is the only argument I can think of for the bad voice acting of her.
Ada’s new depiction was trying to emulate a more modern femme fatale. Think Black Widow in Avengers (Marvel), Scarlet Johansson speaks in low tones and has a natural husky or hoarse voice, but still conveys flirtatious, sad, or brooding emotions in that tone. This has been a trope for most femme fatales in media since the 2010’s. The lead femme fatales in Atomic Blonde and the Protégé, also exhibit similar qualities in that they are more brooding than just sultry, unlike like the original Ada Wong in RE4, who was charming and less cutthroat as the new version of Ada. As Ada in 2004 was a product of femme fatales from the 90’s and 00’s who were sexualized and romanticized like Bond Girls from 007. My guess is Capcom tried to apply a more nuanced style for Ada instead of just romanticizing her as she was in RE2 Remake as a turncoat damsel, also a 90’s action trope. Capcom just probably couldn’t write and direct nuanced dialogue that should have had the actress using a variety of emotions in the same tone like Scarlet could as Black Widow.
Even if that's the case you still need to give a good performance. This performance doesn't make me believe that she's emotionless and cold-hearted. All I'm hearing is someone who can't deliver her lines well.
I think that the things they didn't include such as the big ship area and flaming dragon statues in a lava room, were not returned due to them simply being too silly. The remake is clearly more of a reimagining, and tries to stay a bit more grounded in reality. Which is why we didn't have Ganado with a minigun return either, in favor of instead having a guy with a homemade automatic crossbow launcher. Still silly, but not as silly. Because when it comes down to it, if they had the resources for a battleship and miniguns, then this could have ended up like the later section in Re5 where everyone is using guns against you. And people hated that. Also having Krauser return would undermine the dramatic scene he and Leon had at the end of their battle. But it could simply have been so that his body would have been captured by Wesker. Which makes me wonder if a DLC with Wesker is in the works. He seemed to have had his own mission on the island, and even saved Ada at one point and took Krausers body at one point. Would be a cool original concept.
If Code: Veronica gets a remake all five of us that actually beat OG RE CV would still be the only five to beat it. That game was cruel and unforgiving.
Yes. The remake dosent need anymore content seperate ways was the perfect piece of content needed add missionaries on top of that and re4 remake is filled with content
There should be 1 more Dlc called “Luis Serra” where we play as Luis and it could have the traps, and the cut Krouser fight. I could imagine Luis running into Krouser on accident. Give me your thoughts about this dlc.
I personally found it to tie in personally. She hadn’t seen him since much earlier that day, in that time so much had happened and he wasn’t at the church like they’d agreed. She also had just defeated a frickin el gigante 😂😂😂 with the new context, I felt she sounded exactly like a monotone, *VERY* professional super agent who was getting impatient.
I just want Claire to actually resemble herself. She's on par with RE7 Chris in terms of resemblance. Her features don't match at all, something they actually fixed in Infinite Darkness and Death Island...
I just detest that we get another annual story with Ada Wong, yet nothing compelling about Ada’s story, origin, or agenda. Yes it does setup Wesker’s later narrative for global saturation. But what happened to Ada? Why does she specifically come to the village for the Amber? How did she survive her fall? How did she get the hookshot in this version of events? So much of Leon’s origin carries over with Marvin’s knife and Krauser’s training, we understand how he became this super agent, but because they left all of Ada’s origins behind. We’re still left with the mystery of who Ada is? When there’s clear evidence that Wesker has been her mentor since Raccoon City. The ambiguous call she made in the sewers, “Death’s Door” that shows how she met Wesker in Raccoon. My only complaint is that they didn’t give her any backstory or substance, she just shows up as a femme fatale when just a few glimpses into her past or mindset could clearly convey how she became a badass inbetween RE2R and RE4R by making her Wesker’s protégé. The original Separate Ways did this better by at least having Ada narrate her internal dialogue and conflicts, allowing the player to understand the decisions that Ada makes. A staple for her campaigns, as a lone wolf she’s always had to confront her own struggles internally. The new version of SW would have definitely benefit from a warm open similar to Leon’s where Ada narrates her version of events that brought her to the village: meeting Wesker, training as a superspy with her hookshot, talking to Wesker in the sewers in RE2R. This would have helped to explain how Ada ascended further into espionage post Raccoon. Then cut to the brilliant flamenco scene with Luis and Ada in disguise to convey her overall tone of espionage; a constant struggle between deception and moral resolve. The new SW almost cuts out all of Ada’s internal insight, the payoff of learning exactly what is transpiring and what has conspired thus far since she is a spy. Whereas now, the player is just spectating all of Ada’s feats instead of learning who she is and what her real intentions are. Otherwise the spy ambient and gameplay is perfect, it’s just missing character development which Capcom always seem to withhold from Ada. We can absolutely learn more of Ada’s intentions, goals, or employers without revealing her overall arch and “ruining” her mystique as fans seem to think. I’d rather her finally be revealed as an undercover ally than another 5 or 10 years of trying to figure Ada out. It personally feels lazy for the character who really can be a heavyweight in the overall storyline as a spy who sees all but speaks about none.
@@kevennava1476 I agree. They focus on the main attractions/appeal like upping gameplay, graphics, or storyline but other characters get left out. Ada is literally half of the original RE4 story. She’s the one that reaches out to Luis via email, she’s the one that puts the entire plot into motion by informing Wesker. She was manipulating most of the plot into her favor, as she is the one who walks away with Los Plagas. They even took away her rivalry with Krauser, giving her a lesser enemy the Verdugo. While counter-assassinating Krauser who was trying to assassinate Leon made Ada look like the top spy originally. And when they do “add” more to her story with Wesker, they couldn’t even bother to show a flashback of her meeting Wesker in Raccoon City. Which would explain how Ada became so much more cutthroat and calculated by RE4 as a superspy, because Wesker was her mentor. Yet RE4R makes no mention of this, they just show them together like two Saturday morning cartoon characters, they come off as Team Rocket from Pokémon. They even left out Ada’s internal dialogue, which is important as a spy bc she resolves/ponders more in her head rather speaking out loud. So a lot of the audience is failing to understand Ada’s motives of manipulating Wesker while saving Leon because she’s trying to front for Wesker, not actually trying to be loyal. She only wants to manipulate his plans, which we see by the end of RE4R where she rejects his plans. She should have been more vocal about this in the storyline and not just by the end of the game. Ada’s story in the og RE4 may be harder to follow but it gives the character substantially more depth and accomplishment. Whereas Ada in RE4R is just a cool superspy.
I like RE4 Remake so much but it feels like RE2/RE3 remakes where kind of the sacrifice for it. RE2 is good but short and second play through is the same.
i think only VR will be added, or maybe 1 another story dlc. capcom usually do 1 time dlc in the future, and maybe this is too near the game release so doesn't count
It’s a reimagining. Don’t need every single frame for every single set piece in the original. It can add and remove. Are we really complaining about the opening door on the island not returning? Really? What’s next? You gonna also complain that Steve doesn’t try groping Claire when she’s unconscious in the code Veronica remake? Or Claire’s bigoted remarks toward ashford? Doubt they’re keeping that in!
Agree completely....I'm not a fan of "how they tried" to flesh out Krauser's character by creating more clouded plot holes in the remake. 1 - How did Krauser discover Los Illuminados without being sent in by Wesker? 2 - Was Krauser actually responsible for the death of his own men during Operation Javier on the DL or was it really the government's command to leave his troops stranded? 3 - Many more issues However, I'm quite fond of how you elaborated on the differences between Ada in Separate Ways of the OG & Remake indicating both are interesting angles that aren't necessarily better than the other. You did the same with OG RE2 Leon A, Leon B and of course Ada in 2 Remake as well which was astutely pointed out. While I love Separate Ways in the Remake, I still prefer the base campaign of OG RE4 over the remake despite the outdated combat mechanics.
Sally,Courtney and Jolene are the perfect voices for Ada Ada’s RE4R voice sounds monotone like she is bored just reading them of piece of paper or in a zoom call with no emotion meanwhile Ada's from resident evil 2 was perfect and should have been kept as is. her voice now lacks charisma, seduction, just the overall tone is wrong. Terrible, empty, dead.... like literally sounds like a placeholder
I don't think I can stand Ada's new voice actress in this game. She sounded so much better in RE2R, but here she's mostly devoid of any personality, and the apathetic script between her and Leon doesn't help. She sounds like Samus in MoM and it's really grating to be listening to a bad performance paired with lack of any enthusiasm or personality. How did this happen? They made Claire more loud, angrier, and yet still sweet and charming at times, they made Jill more passionate and charismatic and exuding her professionalism and confidence, but the series' main femme fatale gets turned into a cringy stoic badass? She doesn't sound like a femme fatale anymore, she sounds like a teenager trying to sound cool.
Don't take this the wrong way, but one plays the GameCube version at this point, so your argument is invalid. How can you defend cut content sold as DLC? Also, gameplay is and should be more important than story.

Damn good review. My only problem with the remake was Ada’s voice, the lack of emotional connection between Ada and Leon and lastly in the OG mission endings it would show you some bad ass character art while showing you how many kills and deaths you got. In the remake it’s just a black screen with smoke. Other than that I love the game.
I think it completes, but they'll never replicate the 2k aesthetics of the original, mainly how Ada reflects the feminine spy characters from that time, like Nikita and etc. For example, the OG Ada used to make suggestive and provocative comments, like as if she's the real badass of the story. The original evoques a generation that no game or material could do in this era.
With all this buildup to Wesker now I'm really starting to feel like it was a bit of a f up to not do an updated RE1 remake and a Code Veronica remake to maybe establish Wesker in this timeline instead of "hey he's here and 5 remake will have lots of moments only OG fans will get" which as an OG fan I'm fine with but maybe expand this story for anyone just jumping on
I really loved RE 4 Remake I only had 1 complaint and it's just a nit pick and that is Ada's voice I wish they got someone like the voice actress that played Ada from RE 2 remake her voice in this game just didn't seem like it fit
NO! In the original ada finishes Krauser After Leon’s fight with him Plus weaker wasn’t there In the original weaker is there WHY??? Becuz they are putting him to fight jack krauser to finish him maybe that’s why he had his body at the end????
I found myself bored during the separate ways dlc. I've loved and played all the recent re titles since the og 4 but something about this felt flat to me
