I think this backfired because she tried to make it sound too normal. You routinely take it on and off and forgot your key as recently as 2 weeks ago? No. If you're going to the trouble of remembering to tie the key to the cat and put the cat out, you might as well remember to take your key in the first place. If she said she got a collar with a container, figured the key is a good thing to put there, and it mattered once ... that I might believe.
