Possibly the worst opponent for Shatter to end up against. Hard to use a hammer weapon when everything just bends, or is difficult to even hit. While with most opponents going head on with shatter would be a nightmare, Huge can do so without serious risk.

shatter's driver was just bad. he should have taken the shot right from the front, only about 20% chance of hitting the weapon dead-on, that leaves 80% chance to hit the body or on side of the weapon, into the motor or belt. i don't know what shatter was trying to do by circling around, not like he can do any damage from sides and back/front are basically same.

@@SethiozProjectthey explained in the beginning. The hammer loses about half it's power hitting a high target like huges main body. Also they already swapped out their regular pick for a slicing weapon hoping to cut huges wheels.

@@goldenking2046 cutting wheels is useless, it's common sense and basic physics .. it will never work. it was able to withstand carbide, what a little hammer can do? i have seen huge's wheels getting destroyed only once. only chance shatter would have against huge, is to hit it straight into weapon or body. one angled shot near weapon should be enough to break the weapon.

Shatter managed to hit a weapon belt on Huge (8:52), but it looks like Huge has four of them.

The huge team spent some off season time working with their 30lb design to really 'get' it perfect. More redundant parts, tougher but more flexible wheels. I dont seem them as a threat to win, but they are going to be a pretty fun to watch spoiler team because their design is SO different. Its got such a high resistance to hammer and vertical spinner designs...

@@JeffJackowski They did! Them and Smeeeee both had 30lb versions. Is it bad that I would love to see Big League Battlebots at 50lbs too, like the old days? After watching some of the Norwalk havok fights, they have 30lb bots that seem like they would happily take it to some of the 'also rans' in the 250lb main arena here.

Huge has improved a lot since it's debut.People tend to copy what other successful bots are doing but nobody has anything like huge.Starchild does resemble huge but it's weapon isn't much.

Huge is actually a great design. The wheels can absorbs tons of damage and lift the body above the attacks of most robots like horizontal spinners.

Ablative armor comes off to absorb the impact of the hit. Energy spent going into the armor is energy spent not going into your frame. Solid strategy for when you know you'll be getting hit a bunch by weapons that hit like a truck

I have always hated huge. Every driver always goes for the body. The wheels are thinner could use those . I dont think its a scripted fight but when huge is in its like someone at the top simply says "huge wins make sure every opponent goes right for the blade"

you mean a fight against a good example of it's literal worst possible matchup? yeah its probably not but it actually does pretty good against all those vert+wedge bots running around and amazing against flippers. it hits VERY hard in ways bots don't have to worry about in any other matchup and to make matters worse the silly looking giant-wobbly-slidy-wheels design means any time you make contact with Huge you turn Huge's weapon into the side of your bot, all those "how the heck do we deal with this?" segments are there for an actual reason.

Shatter is a horrible design anyway.. has no defense and for offense all it has is the hammer whose impact area is a small circle if not a point which makes the probability of landing a shot very small. And its not even powerful enough to knock a bot in 1 or 2 hits... I dont know how it has existed so long.

HUGE started to show signs of this performance level last year but now it's gone fully beast mode. It's fast enough to control other bots and poses a serious threat to the top tier verts. I can't recall any other time Shatter (a very heavily armored bot) was handed a beating this thorough. Not even Deep Six from last year was doing this level of damage to them.

It came closer to beating Bite Force than anyone else has (after Chomp) in its debut season, and likely would have won that if ICEWave hadn't done so much damage to them in the prior match. Since then the selection committee's been doing everything they can to keep HUGE from challenging the 4WD verts, so we haven't really been able to see their true potential as the top anti-meta design.

I thought Huge was a mistake last year - it seemed under-powered, vulnerable, and non-threatening. I now see its potential. The wheels are great shields, and it's nearly impossible to get at its insides without getting slammed by its monster hammer blade. Good job guys!

starchild need a bit of a redesign, that wishbone thing blocks them from hitting too much, needs arms similar to huge to stop it from hitting the floor. I suspect Huge will rip it apart, but lets give SC some credit for 1st year new design.

@@jacobe1942 Starchild’s design has been proven in smaller weight classes and similarly functioning thwackbots have worked in this weight class. I think it’s mainly down to them learning how to drive and control it. But yeah. The wishbone could be smaller or something. Maybe they can use a self balancing system like a hoverboard or a Segway scooter, or like a camera gimbal. Don’t know how easy that would be to implement though.

@@jordanc8499 I HIGHLY recommend the browser extension called "SponsorBlock". It's entirely user submitted, but the coverage is INSANE. I usually find 99% of BattleBots (and even stuff like NHRL) has highlight tags already set so I can find the start instantly. HIGHLY recommended, plus then there's more people contributing to the dataset.

Followed up by getting Huge off balance at 7:18 which potentially even could have ended up with Huge stuck sideways. If that'd happened, the announcers would have been talking about the insane strategy of Shatter to take out the balance bar, and then use that axe as a flipping arm.

I hate to say it, but the time of hammer-bots is really over. Every now and then under perfect circumstances, they can do some damage, but by in large, the 'bots are so well built and designed now they just end up flailing around and doing nothing. That said, I love Huge and Shatter for not following the 'wedge and vertical spinner' formula that has taken everybody else over.

meta is meta we all can see the meta. as for the selection committee well theres alot of bots and teams. if new teams fail hard they may not be coming back next season, because other new teams deserve a go. + the OG winning teams everyone wants to see and the season would be lacking
