Today Jer and I ventured to some fresh new water before the general trout opener the next week. The Sierras never disappoint and we managed to have a bunch of fun up there!

I applaud you for picking up trash! It's not always easy to store other people's garbage while fishing. Beautiful river, and it's nice to catch the little ones once in awhile lol.

I do it all the time, but I never put it on film because I don't want to do it just to score points and virtue signal. It's definitely part of the game, a few people try to ruin things for the rest of us.

In the Fall and Winter you can find larger fish below Goodyears Bar. Once the runoff is done, the section above Downieville will produce 30 fish days. There are Otters in some sections. If you’re getting skunked, it’s probably an area where an Otter lives- the are trout killing machines.

Got a little spicy this time flying close to the tree tops, it's so worth it so long as you don't crash :D

Great video. Heading up there Mem. Day weekend. May 7/8, fished the lower Yuba with super high water and Deer Creek in Penn Valley with super low water. Kept hooking up with the Duracell and the Walt's Sexy Worm. They were small, but it's always fun when they strike. Thanks for all the intel and instruction. Your roll cast is looking really good, well, until that one air knot/nest. Keep 'em coming!

Great video, beautiful water and canyon. The water was a lot “bigger” than I thought it would be. No “Boulder hopping” on the River! Thanks! 😊

We were there during Spring runoff, so the water was definitely way up. From research, it was a big surprise for us too!

You are using indicator rig upstream in high water and cutting the drift short. That makes it hard to target deep bigger crevices where the bigger fish wait. You are picking up smaller ones that can wait behind a little rock in the shallower water.

Oh man, I got so so lucky with that spin. Glad you like them, I've got a video that's in the early stages where I'm going to outline how I make videos. I've had interest from some other creators, so stay tuned for that.

If only I had figured out they were keyed into dark flies, I may have found some fish there. I love slack water next to swift current like that as well!

Nice video! Try the stretch between Goodyears bar and Rocky Rest campground next time you're out there. I've gotten into a few large rainbows during high water early season outings.

Hmmm what fly is in that vise? I bet that fly's creator must have a few screws loose to think something so gaudy would work. Yeah usually the NF Yuba runs gin clear and muuuuch lower. Must have caught it at the front end of runoff. The fish are small, but if you hit it at normal summer flows you can have some amazing days of dry dropper fishing.

I can totally see what you're talking about. Luckily I've got similar water that's much closer. I stoked I got to go up there, the sierras never disappoint.

I have fished NFY for years and the big fish have never been there 12 to 10 inches was max , so your in the grove of typical NFY fish, wish I could tell where to find bigger but cannot, from Shenanigan Flat to Sierra City never found the bigger fish just smalls and fun .
@driftstone
@driftstone 3 года назад
Well, the size can remain a mystery, but the fishing was still fun.

So much mandated catch and release in the North fork Yuba fish overpopulated and tiny.
@driftstone
@driftstone 2 года назад
That's interesting, I've never heard that argument made that overpopulated rivers prevents them from getting big. There could be some truth in that.

@@driftstoneThat is a well known principal in management of bass fishing impoundries. Managers of private bass fishing lakes cull smaller fish to allow bigger fish to grow. There is only so much forage!!
