I have not heard any difference between the two types of pickups. But if I have to be honest, I like hot rails pickups more. They won't be bassy and growly like everyone says, but to my ear they are, and plus, just like humbuckers, they compress the single coil sound of the Strat
Wanted to replace my neck pickup with one of these and a Hum of duncan( hot rail i am considering what brand dimarzio or Duncan ) But goddamn ur edit and the chill and calm vibe u having is funny and relax to watch(1st time watching ). And also alot of credit of u to show the spec numbers in detail and explaination.
"Mini Humbucker" is actually a specific term referring to a different size pickup, not the single size double rail. Mini Humbuckers are the ones that you see on Gibson Firebirds and other older styles. They're wider than a single coil, but narrower than a double.
The Hot Rails have a little more clarity in the bass. Otherwise, the sounded surprisingly similar. I recently put an old OBL Dual Rail in my Strat bridge position. It was very bright, so I used a 250k pot and a couple of one meg capacitors in parallel to get it under control. I like that it is hotter than my neck pickup, as there is no need to boost it for leads.
Well when i listened to the tracks i was very surprised of how the hot rails performed in the high gain EX. It was much more articulated and "clean" than the invader, i love the invader but sometimes i feel that the bass response is way too agressive &muddy and steals clarity from the performance. I think i would love to have the push from the invader yet the clarity from the hot rails. I used to love an agressive chunky bass tone for palm mutes and stuff but this test has made me start leaning into a more "clean" and articulated tone 🙂 .
I came here for the gibson type mini humbucker but you did good here. I think the mini has more clarity in high gain due to picking up shorter length of the string so fewer harmonics to muddy it up
After posting the video i figured that maybe it could cause some confusion "micro/mini/tiny" 😆... but yeah, the hot rails where more clear and less muddy ... Actually this video made file a divorce with the Seymour duncan invaders!
I have to agree!! Well, it's not going to brake your bank if you buy a Harley Benton, ( in case you are in Europe) super cheap and good quality....If not, maybe a Mid Tier Squier will do !!
Indeed, the "mini humbucker" thing is a joke, i know its kinda misleading, it's not a firebird's mini humbucker, im changing the tittle ! Thanks for the comment!
