Does solar window tinting really works? Temperature Test - Before & After. TintXperts - Orlando, FL
In this video we show the benefits of commercial, solar window tinting and the before and after temperature readings of the sun's energy passing through a window.
BTU READINGS
We used our BTU meter to measure the energy coming from the sun (East sun exposure, around 11am). We measured outside and inside on non-tinted panels vs. tinted panels.
Before, not tinted panel - BTU measured 120
After, tinted panel: BTU measured: 34
71% overall heat reduction.
TEMPERATURE READINGS
We also used out temperature gun and measured the temperature of our floor mat on non-tinted panels vs. tinted panels.
Before, not tinted panel - Temperature Gun: 109 degrees Fahrenheit
After, tinted panel - Temperature Gun: 87 degrees Fahrenheit

and what the temperature of the glass?

Great question. All solar films have an absorption rate that is higher than glass that has no film. That's why Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) takes into account energy that is absorbed by the window and re-radiated into a home. For example, If a film is rated at 65% Total Heat Rejection (SHGC of 0.35), that absorption rate is already calculate into the final number.

I wonder if that is ceramic tint and if not, how much cooler would it be.

Hello., the film in the video is Dark Neutral 15 by XPEL. It’s a metallic solar film not ceramic. In the world of architectural window films., IF you have a darker film like 15%., metals films usually perform better than ceramic. Most window manufacturing companies don’t make ceramic films under 30% for architectural applications. Now… if you’re working with “lighter” films like 35%, 40%, 50% then ceramic is the best option.
