Does the 2020 Corvette Really Need Magnetic Ride Suspension?

Is this an important option to go with on the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8!? In today's video I talk about the magnetic ride option available for the new 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8! I think I have a pretty good spec so far with a 2LT, Z51 package, front end lift, two tone interior and then the big question Magnetic ride or not?? I had that system on my R8 which I know is a different vehicle but that's the closest reference I have to a magnetic ride system. So for the C8 will this be an important option for both a great ride and possibly better resale. Its an $1800 option which is a good bit, but not too crazy since I'm already spending the $5K on the the Z51 which you have to get in order to even have magnetic available. Let me know if you are getting a C8 and your thoughts on the suspension setup I should go with!

good feed back from everyone, sport cars are made to give a stiffer ride, buy a caddy if you want smoothness . I ordered a 2LT with out mag. ride but with the lift.. I sold my 66 Chevelle to buy this C 8 never had a Vett before thank you all

Thanks for the post. I had magnetic ride control in my 2017 Camaro SS and it doesn’t add value on the trade-in. It will soften the ride when in touring even with the aggressive tires. I, however, rarely drove the car in touring. I also never tracked the car. So I opting to pass on magnetic ride on my C8.

I actually pulled my preorder on the Vette, but I had mag ride more so for ride quality. All the publications said that the mag ride made the ride supple and comfortable in line with a sport sedan. If you are spending the money, I'd get the mag ride. EDIT: if you are already worried about not having mag ride it's a good indication you want it and should add it on

@@LearningFast so I was actually 7 of 60 so I would have gotten mine March or April (fairly early). I was always on the fence but comfort is huge for me and the more I thought about it, the less in love I became with it. I'm sure it's going to be great and those who have one will love it! I actually ended up putting an order in for a BMW M550. Super quick for what it is and loads of tech and comfort!

bu11d0g590 that 5 series is a beast. I ended up getting a 2019 Kia Stinger GT2. It has pretty good power and torque and a ton of room and features for a really great price. There are lots of great choices out there right now.

The KBB resell value for a C7 Corvette only increases $300 for the magnetic ride. It isn’t worth it for resell but it is a really nice feature.

I've ordered a Torch red 1LT, Z51, MRC, carbon flash wheels, racing stripes and hashmarks. It is ordered with jet black interior with red seat belts and the personalized plate. I am in the first allotment and was told delivery will be in March or April. The build price is $70,575. Best wishes.

Yes you may want to hold off on Z51 there will be aftermarket exhaust setups out there and better looking wings.

Tough call but I would get the upgraded suspension imo. Especially since your not getting the car till around May. That gives you time to save up for the $2000.

I ordered the 3LT convertible in rapid blue with the black & blue Napa leather interior and tension blue seat belt along with standard GT 2 seats. Options I chose was Z51 package, black carbon flash high wing spoiler, black carbon flash painted wheels, black painted nacelles and roof, black extended rocker panels, front and rear splash guards, black lug nuts and black wheel locks. Final build net price was $89,030.

Sounds pretty good! Mine is a 2LT, elkhart blue with the GT 2 seats as well! Black and red, I just got Z51, mag ride and the front end lift!

I ordered the 3LT in rapid blue also but know I'm debating on changing it since I heard the leather is separating on the dash due to the sun. I would hate to spend all that money to get the blue interior and in a few months it start to buckle. Also heard that it wouldn't be covered under warranty

They have removed almost all of the constraints now and the lack of magnetic ride with the front lift will no longer delay orders from being built. You won’t get your car any sooner by adding magnetic ride.

Magnetic Ride is an option. The C8 is designed to be be fast, comfortable, and relatively light until you start adding "options" if you add Z51, mag Ride, 3LT trim, lift, high wing, carbon.fiber everything, strips everywhere, oh and make it a convertible with a power top, You wouldn't want to have to decide to put the top in the trunk before you start driving. All together this will make your C8 heavy and your wallet lighter: Bond's Q put a lot of Options on Bond's DB Aston Martin and in real life it will hardly pull it's self out of it's own tracks. My C8 Stingray? Is a 2LT, Elkhart Lake Blue with Adrenaline Red interior, Adrenal Red GT1 seats, with heat, ventaltion, and power lumber & bolster. They look great but like the silver open five spoke wheels with all season tires are at no extra cost. I have no Z51, no mag ride, no mechanical convertible top, no carbon fiber add ons, no spliter, no wing, $67885.00. It should be very quick. Like 0 to 60 in 2.99999 seconds and a top speed at an honest 194 miles per hour. I know I am giving up 0.0001 second 0 to 60 and about 10 mph on the top end. At least the mirrors fold when I park the car!

The Media has sampled both FE3 and FE4 (mag) ride quality. FE3 is very stiff and not recommended for our local MI roads - stiffer than FE4 in Z/track mode. The comment was made that FE4 should be the #1 option chosen when using the car a daily driver. FE4 rides like a luxury car in comfort mode. One long term downside - Once the car is off warranty the mag ride could be an expensive repair.

I orderedmy car loaded and magnaride got lost in the ordering process and got my car Thursday and makes a huge difference in ride comfort , because my friend has it and it's nite and day

My build is different, but so are my priorities. Definitely going with the 2LT pack and GT2 seats, but no Z51 for me as I am never going to track it. Technically the car is 10 MPH faster without it and only .1 second slower to 60. Normal non-track handling will be noticeably negligible for anything under 100 MPH, plus I detest any spoiler on this rear end. The cool thing about the C8 is that there will be so many variations out there, each will be its own vehicle.

My Audi R8 had magnetic suspension. Ten year old car everything still worked perfectly. Cars can last these days

You should get it. It’ll make for a more comfortable ride, it’ll help the resale value, and if you finance it for 60 months it’ll only set you back $30/month.

I decided to nix the front lift so I can lower the car some. It will just look meaner and you know the z06 will be lowered already when it comes out. I did add the magnetic ride so I can have a smoother ride in my daily driver. I didn’t think the magnetic would limit the ability to lower. Can anyone confirm that for me? Thanks

Seems like the magnetic ride would be a good idea. I've never ridden in a car with it though so I can't say from first hand experience. Most reviewers have praised the magnetic ride on other cars.

The Road and Track Horsepower and Torque numbers were false and they admitted it the other day. They completely messed up the dyno test. 495 HP at the crank is the correct value. You shouldn’t keep repeating false information.

2LT w/Z51 and MRC w/Front Lift Assist. GT2 seats in Natural w/black belts, Engine appearance, standard wheels w/Red calipers. Car is low enough for me.

In the long run, do you think magnetic ride is a plus for resell? I'm thinking it 'sounds' like a nice feature for this car, being able to choose but... Not my 2 grand. lol

My spec is similar to yours (2LT + Z51) except that I did order the magnetic ride but not the front end lift. Also expect mine in May.

I had a c7 stingray without mag ride and it was ok but after having mag ride on my C7 Z06 I was spoiled and would not want to be without it on the street. In fact I don’t think other cars have it besides Vettes and Ferraris

The "new" hp number of 558rwhp has been proven to be false. The C8 is back to it's original 495hp at the crank, which is still nothing to sneeze at in this Vette. I'd go with mag ride. The Vettes have had that as an option since the C4 generation and with each successive generation it just kept getting better. Obviously Ferrari thought so, because effectively it's GM's system in their cars. Save the Wave.

I got pretty much your exact specs except my exterior color is torch red. I elected to include magnetic ride. No experience but have seen many good reviews concerning it. I ordered the two tone adrenaline red seats and was told that negated my choice of a leather wrapped steering wheel (must go with suede wrapped wheel). I think that you should be able to get wheel wrap of your choice when ordering two tone seats.

Where is your judgement in that? Audi's are awesome, I had an R8 and it was the best car ever! I've also driven almost every Audi and nothing but good things to say about them. You're statement is just an opinion, but not sure how you come up with that.
