@@Jeagles No, one airbrake! The things on the upper side of the wings are liftspoilers and can only be deployed on ground.

one of my favourite aircraft, i used to fly this weekly from London to Zurich until they replaced it with the A220 and i think it most travellers will prefer Swisses new planes but the avro will always be my favourite over the new jets. i miss the avro.

It really does. Over 30,000ft it runs out of oomph The engines are tiny because they had to be quiet. The BAe 146 was built at Hatfield, the last plane to fly out of the original DeHavilland factory there before the company was sold to Canada and the factory and airfield closed

Plane of my childhood! :) Loved the shape, the 4 engines and it had such a distinct noise that you could recognise one taking off instantly!! It was the perfect plane for Jersey for the reasons you've stated, Jersey European (Now Flybe) used to have it as it's fleet for Gatwick, Birmingham and any other city destination. It may not be deemed a whisper jet anymore compared to the latest generation of planes and I don't think it's allowed in some airports because it's too loud! But in the 90's, that high pitch whine made it stand out from the rest - when walking past London City Airport, I heard one take off and I instantly recognised it - got stupidly excited as I hadn't seen one in so many years! .

What I think is interesting is the fact that Airbus bought an Avro RJ in order to replace one engine by an electric one. So I think this one still has a future. Also I like the spoiler design in the back which you forgot to mention.

You should do a video on landing on a carrier (actually) using the f4 phantom. You can extend the tailhook using a big lever on the left of the cockpit and actually land in a carrier normally

Well,there were plans by British Aerospace to create Avros with only 2 engines (not kidding), one of them had CFM-56 engines and winglets (BaE NRA)and the other removed the High-wing and replaced it with a Low-wing (BaE RJX) Both of these designs had 2 engines instead of 4.

Um... Swiss airlines don't fly any Avro's anymore. Swiss Global Air Lines used to operate them, and Crossair were defunct since 2002. The only major operators left are Cobham Air (Australia), BRA (Sweden), Airlink (South Africa), CitiJet (Ireland).

Some 25 years ago, Aerosur flwe the BAe 146 in Bolivia and I remember distinctly hearing engines spin up AFTER takeoff, so I suspect that they somehow took off on 2 engines and only added the other 2 after takeoff. Why they would do this is beyond me.

I remember when ian avro crashed with the entire brazilian team Chapecoence onbooard,it was a sad time for football fans,they were on their way to their first semi final I think and majority of the team died when it crashed in coloumbia I think

The cause of the accident was the negligence of the pilot, who also owned the company, Lamia. He filled the fuel tank at the limit until the airport, with nothing more to other airports in case of emergency. They should have made a stop in Bolivia, but they didn't. During the flight, the pilot and co-pilot were calculating to see if the fuel would be enough. Arriving near the airport, another plane said mayday, then took priority and would land first. They had to go around the airport as the flight letter said, and instead of saying Mayday for lack of fuel, he only did this when all four engines went out. He didn't want to say mayday because he could be arrested for negligence, for putting the fuel right to the limit, with nothing extra, which is illegal. There were only 6 or 7 survivors.
