We swap the copper baseplate on a Duncan Jerry Donahue pickup to plain steel... Guitar is a Fender highway one Texas Tele.... Jerry Donahue Alnico 2 Seymour Duncan in the bridge. Dimarzio Twang King in the neck (A5 strat type wind) 250k pots... original treble bleed design ... vintage sprague cap

mate, heat that base plate up with a hair dryer and the plate will slide right off, if you are quick, you can get the new one on before the wax hardens up again. happy belated birthday from Oz

The Steel sounds warmer w/ more harmonics than the copper.

The new strings would be brighter, but the volume is way better on the steel, it was hard to here the coated plate one because of the volume or the pickup output was lower not sure, sounds amazing though, great playing

How did you re-attach the plates beyond solder? What is the wax process ?

Nice vid! Amazing how copper changes tone. Another quick one for you , strat bridge pickup replacement, lil 59 or hot rails? Keeps pots at 250k?

The copper you sound like a lower volume I can hear the strings With the steel plate you don’t hear strings I like Steel base plateWow

Are you sure the copper baseplate wasn't just copper plated steel? Most are.

Yes they are copper plated steel… copper plating anywhere in the magnetic circuit chokes high end
