I've never liked the way Christians like to argue by bringing up a paradox that the original philosopher dispelled their ascribed meaning. Christians want to use that to say that we must accept their intolerance as a tolerant society, and Popper was the first to say that he was actually saying that we must not meet intolerance with tolerance. The only caveat is that we are to meet nothing but intolerant violence with anything other than rational arguments. The paradox is famous for making the claim that in a society where intolerant ideas are tolerated, intolerance is the only plausible outcome. I got my degree in criminal justice - not only is the death penalty more expensive than life in prison, there is ZERO deterrent effect. Crimes like murder are often done in the heat of the moment. People aren’t thinking rationally at that point and being like “ooh but I live in a state with the death penalty, actually I won’t do this now”.

Every major power ignored this during the first world war. I am so sick of people miss translating the Torah. The prohibition on homosexuality is a prohibition unsleeping with young boys. It’s actually a prohibition against pedophilia and the term abomination as it translated is not the same as the Hebrew the Hebrew is using something mildly preferred.
