I frequently shoot video outdoors on very hot humid days. After having a D750 and a V1 overheat, I realized I needed cameras with active cooling systems, one of the reasons I now use Panasonic camcorders.

Hi Robert great video and answered a lot of my questions. My RU-vid channel is showing signs of life and I’m considering upgrading to either a camcorder or a mirror less camera as my GoPro, as good as it is always over heats and just isn’t reliable enough. My iPhone 11 does an excellent job in good lighting conditions, and the video and zoom works so well for instagram and RU-vid shorts. Do you think any camcorder could be used to film in car content from a stabilisation point of view. I’m looking for excellent picture and zoom quality, zoom needs to be responsive as I film a lot of cars leaving events and an awesome crisp zoom picture could be game changing. My iPhone 11 zoom picture quality is good, but I need a longer zoom and great picture quality in low light levels from time to time. I’m not going to invest unless I’m 100% sold it can do multiple things well. Appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks again.

Hello Robert, The owners manual for the 1500 mentions SD XC cards up to 128gb (but it was last updated in 2020), any issues with using the higher capacity SD cards with this camcorder? I am considering the SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-I SDXC cards but perhaps the 256gb or 512gb and I am wanting to record in 4K 60 frames. Thank You
@johnmckenzie3335
@johnmckenzie3335 2 месяца назад
I use two 256gb cards (Sandisk extreme pro) in my HX2000 without a problem. I always shoot in 4k 50fps in HEVC so I can record simultaneously on both cards for safe backup and can generally film an entire wedding, reception etc without needing to change cards.

I’m still considering picking this up now in 2023. Is there any danger of Panasonic releasing a new and improved version anytime soon do you think?
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm Год назад
It's about 1/2 way through its life cycle. If you want a 1/2" class small professional grade ENG/Documentary style camcorder, you can expect to get another three years out of the HCX1500/2000/CX10. Panasonic seems to have a 6 year cycle on the HCX# cameras. In general camcorders have a cycle longer than cameras. Panasonic has announced they will release a huge firmware update around May 8, 2020. This further shows that Panasonic is keeping the line alive longer. Cheers.

Robert, I have a couple simple questions. Does the EVF pull out, thus turning the camera on - without having to open the LCD? Is the noise from the internal fan loud enough to be captured on video? On/off switch for fan? Thanks Robert.
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm Год назад
Yes. The EVF pulls out and turns the camera on. You don not have to open the LCD to turn the cvamera on. You can choose to power the camera on with the power button, evf, LCD, or any combination. You will likely never hear the noise from the internal fan. I have never heard it in person or on the recording. There is no on or off switch for the fan. Please subscribe.

What's 24p content like when viewing on an OLED? Do panning shots look jerky?

Not if you can slowly. Search for cinematography panning calculator and toull find resources for how long panning should take at different frame rates.

Hello Robert, I have a question for you. I own a Panasonic X1500 camcorder and I am looking for an EVF which could be install on my kit. The camcorder viewfinder is jot so great so I add a Neewer LCD screen 4k that I love. This Neewer LCD has a hdmi in and out possibility. Could you tell me if I can buy an EVF wuth good eye cup and an easier way to get precise focusing ? Thank youvso much for coming back to me. Yvon from Canada. Oh....do not want the Portkeys but maybe Zacuto ou something else to connect to my Lcd thriugh HDMI
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm 6 месяцев назад
Hello, and thanks for your comment. I'm not familiar with any add on EVFs. I know that some companies make them, but I've never used any. I donthe same thing you do, and simply use an external monitor most of the time. I know that you can buy some boxes that fit over a monitor that enclosed it. On those devices you look through a "viewfinder" to see the screen without distraction. I have never use those, either. Cheers.

Hey Robert, Im a golf vlogger. I am currently deciding between the HCX2000, AG CX350 and HC X20. All will be placed on a mono pod so weight isnt an issue. Which one of these would you recommend for filming a round of golf? Ill add shot tracer but zooming in on the ball would be nice. Thanks
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm 2 месяца назад
Hey, thanks for your question. I appreciate your comment and your interaction on my video. You pose a good question. I guess the most important thing to talk about is money. If you're going to buy the x2000, don't buy it. Buy the x1500, and the top handle separately. Doing so at current prices will be $1,700 for the x 1500 and $300 for the top handle which brings you to about 2K. As you've seen the prices of the x2000 new, they're around $2,200. So what are you getting for that extra 200 bucks? SDI. If you don't need SDI, and I'm telling you, you probably don't, then you can save 200 bucks right off the bat and have the exact same thing just without SDI. If you need to send a video out, all the x 1500 / 2000 cameras do 10-bit 422 output at 60 frames per second to a external recorder through the HDMI port. So, if you needed to have an external monitor, which is what you would use SDI for in many cases, then you can still save the money and get it all with the x 1500 and top handle purchased separately. The other 1-in cameras are going to give you better images specifically in low light. More importantly, they will all accept the HCX 20, give you 13 stops of dynamic range. So that means the best image quality will come from the AGCX 350 and the HCX2. That 13 stops of dynamic range is serious, and it's what I would suggest. It costs a lot more, so consider buying used from a place like KEH. I use KEH all the time, and they have been really great to me. I don't generally buy new camera or camcorder gear just because it's so expensive. I'm running a business these things are tools for me, and so that's a part of my decision making process. But, if you choose to buy new, Go for it. Let me know how it goes please. Cheers.

@@RobertHamm fantastic answer. I watched a bunch of your videos and eventually decided to buy a hc x2000. I got one used for less and i potentially could use the sdi out to run to a monitor and the hdmi to run to my computer. I hope they work at the same time but if they don’t it’s not big deal. Your videos really helped me choose which camera though so thank you… that being said I have a new question! Haha. I have done lots of research but can’t find anyway to do this so thought maybe you’d know. Is there anyway to record three lines of audio input that are not blended? I know I can do two with the inputs but my goal is to have 2 xlr lav mics and one xlr shotgun mic record. Does the 3.5mm work at the same time as the xlr inputs record? Would the 3.5mm record to a seperate track at the same time as the xlr inputs record to their own tracks? Will the onboard sound record with the xlr inputs recording? Any workarounds besides recording one lav to input 1 and the other lav and the shotgun mic to input 2? As always thank you!
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm 2 месяца назад
Yeah, no problem. I'm glad I've been helpful. I know exactly the question you're asking about with audio here. I've experienced, and needed, a solution like the one you're seeking. Unfortunately, none of the 1/2.5" professional Panasonic cameras, the HCX 1500, HCX 2000, and AGCX 10, have this option. You only get two channels of audio. The only way to overcome this is with an external multiple input recorder, like a field recorder. This is another purchase, and depending on if you need 32-bit float recording or just standard 24-bit 48 kHz sample rate, you can pick up some multi recorders pretty easily. Whatever you choose, getting one with multiple XLR inputs will be helpful. So I would suggest the Zoom h6, possibly the zoom essential six that e6, but you're limited with the recording format on the essential series recorders from Zoom, so I don't really recommend them unless you want to get into post-production audio workflow and a 32-bit environment. I find it most of the times it's just an extra step that's takes longer costs more in time, and doesn't really give a benefit. Now 32 bit is great if you don't know what your audio situation's going to be like, and you don't want to set your levels at the time of recording, then you can be insured to get a great recording and post-production, but you have to edit it. If you're going to do any live streaming, 32-bit won't help you because you have to send a good signal out in the first place. Meaning, the benefit of 32-bit, which is not clipping ever or not being too low in volume because you can always raise or lower any audio in post-production, become pointless at live streaming because you need to have good levels when you're streaming or your audience will hear a bunch of crap. To avoid any of this and have all the options at your disposal, I suggest the task cam porta capture X8. Whatever you choose, you're going to need to send a line out signal from the recorder to your camcorder. This will blend the signals on the camcorder, but that's just your scratch track anyway. It will also work for live streaming. But the recorder will still give you individual control over each channel while live streaming because all of your inputs are going into the recorder. I hope that makes sense. And post-production, you can split the three inputs recorded to the field recorder and sync them to the scratch audio sent to your camera from the field recorder. This means you have a lot of control in post-production. So if you want to mute a particular channel, you can do that in post-production. You could also do it live if you wanted to because the field recorder will give you the ability to mute a channel live. Just so that you know, you would not get any better audio options with purchasing a more expensive Panasonic 1-inch sensor camera, because they don't offer additional inputs to the ones already on camera. So, on the AGCX 350, you can have for audio inputs, but you don't get to choose them. You get the two XLR inputs, and then the two in build mics. So it's not like You could choose to use additional inputs and run them in through the mic jack. It won't work that way. Good luck.

Yep this was amazingly helpful. I have a zoom h6 already so I’ll roll with that for now. But the easiest solution is I’m going with two audio inputs! 😂 Now I need help. My camera is blurry even when I put it on auto. I’m not sure what setting I changed but I can’t figure it out. I’d be happy to compensate you for you time to run through my camera settings and put it in an optimal set up for recording golf videos. I need a large depth with a sharp picture to track the ball. Lmk thanks!

If justeave at 25mm most of the time, is walking tour video really gimbal like stable and you won't get tired much from holding it while walking for an hour at least?
@RobertHamm
@RobertHamm 8 месяцев назад
It's got pretty good image stabilization. I still use a gimble when filming something important because I'm often on the move, but I also will further stabilize the footage in post production. However, it may be exactly what you need for the tout, or you could get the DJI pocket 3 if you don't plan on doing any zooming.

I noticed many X1500/X2000/CX10 owners complained about the audio noise levels on their camcoders (not only the 3.5mm jack inputs but also for XLR inputs). From what I've seen on RU-vid, the audio noise is just terrible. Is that really that bad? Does your unit have that same issue too or it's just affecting individual malfunctioning units?
