Vokillists can absolutely make or break my enjoyment of a band 100%! ‘King Diamond’ are a prime example… I don’t hate them… but his vokills really do prevent me from enjoying them as much as other people do! Good to see you mate!🤘🏻

Oh god I've tried and tried with KD and Mercyfiul Fate. I think the music is kind of boring too which just compounded the problem lol. Cheers mate. I have a new series of videos on the go now too.

Interesting video Mike. Yeah I agree with what you're saying. So I listen to Dio to mainly hear his voice whether that's with Rainbow, Sabbath or his own band. Ozzy era Sabbath, Megadeth and Accept I mainly listen for the music. I can understand what you're getting at with Dickinson, could be because his voice has changed over the years, he's still got a great voice though. Yeah interesting point about Queensryche being a bit boring, I wouldn't disagree despite them having some excellent songs.

Hi Mike!!! cool topic because singers can make or break the band..... take for example King Diamond awesome music, but for many listener when KD hits the first note/falsetto, it's all over!! Also you're right about Queenryche "attitude" i like the band, but not crazy about them, saw them live once still with Tate and it was a "correct" show. Mustaine in a perfect world shoudn't have ever been a lead singer, but according to his version of the story he had to..... I liked Phil Anselmo when he used to "sing" in their glam records and "Cowboy's...."/"Vulgar....", but then he started to growl and try to hard to sound tough. Btw totally agree with your thoughts about Dio discography quality. cheers!!

Good video, really enjoyed it. Interesting take on Bruce Dickinson's voice. It's not to my taste either (whereas I really love Di'Anno's voice). Also, good what you said about Blackie Lawless. He does indeed have a great voice, which isn't always noticed as much as it should be. It actually reminds me a little of Steve Marriott.

Interesting video Mike , I suppose vocalists are different to everyone’s ear..never thought Mustaine was a proper singer, but the early albums def carried him I love Queensryche and Tate, I get were your coming from but if I listen to them and other prog metal bands that’s what I expect, sure the lack of” aggression” but that’s not the style of music Paul Stanley commenting on Dio is laughable, never thought much of Paul Stanley as a singer, he’s as average as they come Great video Mate , really enjoyed this one Have you a fav vocalist or did you say ?

Interesting video! Overall, I'd agree. A bad vocalist can neither ruin a great band, nor save a bad one. I've gotta be honest, I can't say I know what you're getting at with Bruce, though I can't stand Joey Belladonna's voice, but for some reason I still really like Anthrax. As for Mille and Mustaine - neither are great vocalists by any stretch, but they just somehow work with the music. Same with Sean Killian and Vio-Lence. I don't think they'd sound right at all with any other voice. I can't think of too many examples of bands I don't like, but do like the singer, but I probably could if I thought long and hard enough! As for Paul Stanley's comments on Dio, I think he's talking absolute shit, which is not unusual for a member of KISS! 🤣 Cheers! 🤘

Good video with some interesting vocal performances and voice acting by yourself :) It's interesting, that texture that Bruce Dickinson's voice has is one of the reasons why he's one of my favorite singers. When I heard Maiden the first time, I'd never heard anyone ever sing like that. I think Mustaine sounds less bad on some albums than on others, but - yeah - the music does make up for a lot of it. I haven't really bothered with Megadeth recently mostly because of all the silly drama and the unevenness of their discography post 'Youthanasia' though. When it comes to Queensrÿche, I have to admit that on 'Hear in the Now Frontier' and onwards, Geoff Tates' singing style got really boring, and It was only when Todd La Torre replaced him that I started finding them interesting again. I think the musicianship in Pantera was top notch, but the macho attitude definitely hasn't aged very well.
@metalmickey
@metalmickey Месяц назад
Yeah I think Todd La Torre is great. I think Queensryche have slipped out of popularity compared to years ago though. Id like to see him push on with his solo stuff.

Funny you mentioned Dave Mustaine attitude as I was vinyl hunting yesterday at a shop in Melbourne and the owner was telling me he spent 2 weeks with Megadeth on tour in Oz for the Dystopia tour as he is good friends with Chris Adler and some of the stuff Mustaine did and demanded blew my mind. For me if the music is so good it can outweigh any weakness in vocals but that gets really hard to overcome if the vocal style is super clean and high pitched and the singer is just not nailing it
@metalmickey
@metalmickey Месяц назад
I can imagine Dave wants the impossible of people. There was a guy who made VC videos before your time I think. He done an impression of Mustiane when he came onstage for the Big 4 concert. It was perfect. Nodding and pointing at everyone and he said "you're all part of history today". 😂 Those Big 4 shows even have a DVD which I own but they've been forgotten just as fast as they were announced.

Interesting video, Mike. I know where you're coming from relating to Dickinson, Mustaine, Millie etc. Vocally not the best but their voices are synonymous with stuff I grew up listening to. Eternal Nightmare is the only Vio-lence I ever listen to now. It literally is a stand alone thrashterpiece. Queensryche always seemed to me like a group of professional, talented musicians thrown together rather than an actual band and I've never, and never will, own Operation Mindcrime...bores me to death. Interesting to hear about Stanley exposing RJD for his vocal inadequacy and how he's conned the masses 😂 btw is the reason I have shit input from others due to me only showing rare underground stuff no one else shows? 😂 Always an education listening to your thoughts, brother 🤘
@metalmickey
@metalmickey Месяц назад
We seem to agree on most things here eh. What do you mean mate? Views are you on about or crap comments? I wasn't having a go at people who look to the underground. That's the only way bands can be noticed it's just that I can't be relies on by any of them lol. If you look at my buying over the last year or two I've just reached saturation point at the moment.

Hello Mike, the Bruce thing on Senjutsu I was critical of and that was bad he had gotten over the cancer thing. He’s much better on Mandrake Project, infinitely better. So yeah my thoughts on Bruce with that record was overboard I realize that. That exact Megadeth album, I like musically and yet I hate that record simply due to the vocals. I love that impression you did. The worst pile of shit performance from Dave was Five Magics. Dude this was excellent. Well done sir!

Far Beyond Driven - have to admit, it's a great album but it's heavy for being heavy's sake with little variation. Vulgar...had pace changes within tracks, melodic pieces, as did Trendkill. Oppressing the Masses has never had an official release in Britain. It'll have an audience ready for a reissue, preferably with Torture Tactics restored. One last thing - The Mandrake Project is a lot better than Sanjitsu. Aware that Maiden have exorcised their prog strengths to the full, that album was hard work to listen through.
@metalmickey
@metalmickey Месяц назад
Heavy for heavys sake. Good one that. You're right about that reissue. It would sell out in seconds because it's so scarce. Id even buy it myself lol. I wish Maiden would edit themselves a little.

I have never owned any Queensryche, lol. I never got any Nevermore because I didnt like his voice. Megadeth wouldn't be the same without Dave, he can't sing for toffee but it's what it is and sets them apart. I hate Danzig too, sounds like Elvis - music is decent though. If anything is going to kill my interest in a band, it's the singing. Either bad lyrics or bad singing. I do like Megadeth. That's a rare case where I can overlook the singing and still enjoy it. Rush was another one, but I'm fine with Geddy's voice now. Geoff Tate is an incredible singer. I love the Mindcrime album, but they really went downhill after that. I agree that everything sounds too perfect on their albums and there isn't any passion there. Also agree on Pantera. Cowboys from Hell and Vulgar Display of Power were fantastic albums, but the whole attitude is too much. Anselmo does a pretty good Rob Halford impersonation, but they completely abandoned that and I lost interest in their later albums. Dio is one of my favorite singers. The stuff he did with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and the first few solo albums was incredible. It really doesn't matter to me if he's technically a good singer or not. I like listening to him, so that's good enough for me. Paul Stanley is a good singer, but anything that comes out of his mouth when he's not singing makes me cringe. He and Gene Simmons are both insufferable, but I still like the music.

What do you mean with that rant about Mustaine? He´s the best singer anyway, he has great control and a wide range, live he´s even better! Such a pleasent and delightful tone in his voice, hahahaha... Seriously, John Conelly would be another example. His vocals have everything that might make you turn your back on him when he opens his mouth but it works perfect with the music and makes Nuclear Assault stand out from all the 80s Thrash bands.
