It’s not just bad for the battery, it’s bad for the universe. The electrons escape the battery at warp speed, creating a tear in the space time continuum, and creating black holes. Sheesh! I thought everyone knew that.

Now, I did not know that. Guess I'm going to have to try again. The Large Hadron Collider ain't got nothing on me! Maybe if I get lucky I'll turn myself into a superhero. I'm tired of eating radioactive woolyworms.

They are my favorite. They hold a great charge and you can recharge them a ton of times.

Thanks. Fairly conclusive. I was passing a myth along. I still think it’s not a good use of a battery in an emergency as a BIC is much better at fire starting. I think the origin is due to burning of the battery casing which is easy to do using this ignition method.

Geesh! How can discharging the battery ruin it? That’s what it’s for. It holds charge until you use it. Have you tried etching steel with a nine volt battery yet?

I've seen it done, but since I do very little with steel I am not sure I would have a practical use for the technique. It would certainly be fun to try just to do it though.
