Most of the Stihl blowers, except the back pack ones, have a second handle for when you open up the side and attach the vacuum tube to suck up leaves.

Thanks Steve. I've had my BG55 blower for almost 15 years and I never thought to use that "hidden to me" feature! Now I know why I was getting tired so quickly using only one arm. Now that I am 72, I will definitely need two hands. LOL

When using one hand to blow leaves, left handed people soon learn that the side air intake will “grab” your pants and make the blower work harder. The solution is to grab the blower by the lower handle with the left hand and the pants problem goes away.

I’m glad to see someone else like me. I just bought a new tractor. The salesperson/tech did a training with me. Then I read all the manuals. Less than half of what he told we was to the manual procedure. And a few even had safety warnings not to do that.

Hi Steve, I use that handle on my Stihl SH 86C when the vac bag is attached, allows the bag to sit below the machine and fills easily. Great video as always, cheers👍🍻

Polan Pro BVM200 has that extra handle . It’s used for the Vacuum Attachment .

You can also use the copper water pipe winterization foam covering to make the handle more comfortable. This comes in a three foot section at most hardware outlets in color black. Cut a piece to length of the handle and simply peel off the two yellow adhesive tape strips and seam the sides together. It is also very durable material, and will last several seasons of use.

Over the last 20 years, I have owned two stihl handhelds. The first one got stolen while a friend had it borrowed. I'll bet it's still running. The one I have now is a bg56c. Both of them have the additional handle, and yes, I've always known about it.

Bought my BG50 in 2015. Still using it. Noticed the bottom handle when it was new. Want to upgrade, but can’t justify it. With regular maintenance, thing just keeps running. The end of the tube, on the other hand, has some nice wear from driveways. Battle scars, and she’s earned them.

Been a a gas leaf blower user for roughly 30, and currently have a bg55 for 7 or 8 years. Never knew it….never even thought about it. Thanks for schooling this 66 year old whose arm gets tired.

That "handle" is primarily how you hold the SH56 and SH86 machines when using them in vacuum mode. That orange "fan door" to attach the tube for a vacuum conversion is present on the BG85 and BG86 however the outer fan housing is different between the BG and SH models - the SH models have a rubber liner inside to keep rocks from punching through the plastic when using it as a vacuum, the BG models do not have that rubber liner inside. Yes, and if it has the thumb throttle setter, you can use it upside down too and hold it in your other hand, to give the main hand a rest.

Some models combine to be a Vac and blower, and they all use the same lower frame. The frame is designed so when you turn it around to be a sucker, it can be held by both hands. Even more information to blow (pun intended) your mind, some have a throttle lock, so you can bring the engine to full speed while you suck leaves up... Amazing!!!

Echo pb 2155 does not have this feature! But the bag attachment has an optional handle attachment! I think that was the idea with the Stihls. More control when sucking.

I know on Mother's day I was starting my stihl blower on the ground and I'm guessing the compression caused it to jump up and the bottom frame went into my left leg, missing the bone and arteries but it left one heck of a deep cut. I spent a good while going to the ER by ambulance 40 miles so they could stitch it up. 21 stitches, 6 of them inside. This weekend will be 8 weeks and still healing and almost done. So from now on it will be started with right hand holding it and left pull starting it.

Yes. I knew that there was another handle and that it was used mostly when the blower is used for sucking up debris with the little bag attachment and side funnel. Can i ask you Steve, on the subject of leaf blowers, have you ever done a video on the comparisons between battery powered leaf blowers and petrol powered ones? I used a Makita battery powered leafblower today for the first time and was impressed with its power and lite weight. Not sure how long a charge will last however. Perhaps youve already made a vide on the subject? If so, hsve you a link? Thanks man for your very useful vids. 😉

I learned this the hard way when I was on a ladder blowing tree stuff off my roof and after gripping the back if the tube had my leather glove start to burn from the exhaust outlet. Then I found the grip you talk about. 😂❤
