The hatch looks brilliant, just fantastic, great job guys. Now that hole. I must admit I wondered when I saw it with all that rust “how do you fix that” as you can’t weld onto rust, at least I don’t think you can. You can buy this stuff in a tube that Henri use to put on his tinny (boat) for holes and it was really strong BUT, this is your water and you want to drink it and shower with it, I don’t know if that stuff is poisonous. Hey Chris / Becca The floor is incredible!!!! Hey Chris haven't you come along ways with your DIY skills. If you have not fixed the water tank hole there is a simple solution. Clean off the rust and apply some fiberglass cloth and fiberglass resin, rather like fixing a rusty car. Becca I think that this might be a job for you due to the patience required, sorry Chris. if you have any doubts as to the rest of the tank then do the entire thing in fiberglass cloth and resin. BE SURE THAT YOU CLEAN DOWN TO BARE METAL before applying the cloth and resin. Mark Alberta, Canada

Hi, Could you not just use an epoxy resin to bond a small sheet of metal either side of the hole. Its a bit of a bodge up but might work. Good luck.

That television aerial will never work in that position.....

Maybe look into a flexible bladder to puy in the tank. Maybe get some of the spray rubber to use from the inside of tank. Scrap the rust away and put something over the top of the hole. Maybe drill a new overflow hole.

Why don’t you drill a new overflow bellow the level of the hole, this way it will never overflow through the rotting top deck

Tell you what, even though your purchase was a complete and utter mistake, the amount you have learned on the way, not to mention the footage that we all enjoy watching, has proved to be an invaluable goldmine. HowEEver...I fear the worst for that water tank hole cos its so badly rusted.....will need a lot o removing old plate to get back to the good stuff and re-plating and welding. Problem is that corner flange. Yes...FLANGE!

As others have commented, the water tank really needs fixing properly. Either get it welded up or fit a new tank. If you've removed the bow thruster then maybe there's room for a stainless steel or plastic tank but that would cost more; better still, have the thruster tube removed to give greater room, but the boat would need to come out of the water to weld up the holes in the hull.

Personally, I would cut out the old tank, as it is rusty anyway, and replace it with a plastic one. Sounds hard but once all the rusty metal is gone, you will be surprised how easy it will be to plumb the new one in. It’s had its day so bite the bullet. Hire a plasma cutter and it will be done in no time. 🎉

Have you looked into fiberglass patch over the hole .and loving your content. Everything looks so nice. There is a paint used for pools you can maybe use to line the inside of the water tank

Your Warter tank can't you line it with fibreglass then that way it will seal all the holes

Check to see if overflow is not plugged

Stop going over old ground and have more vid time

Clean the area and fiberglass it up.

Your water tank must be annoying for both of you. I’m sure Becca will work out a solution. Becca was so-on-point in explaining how the water tank and overflow should work. Stick a bladder in it, you could glass fibre the hole but once rust starts it will keep going in a damp environment like that and you will have another hole and another patch 6 months later

There is quite a lot of rust on this boat. I think you said it had been too sea? I wonder if the salt water has made things a lot worse. The access is horrible but it could be welded up.

Hi guys. Would that overflow pipe also double up as an air admittance valve (for when you are draining down ie using the water) or is there a separate thing? Floor looking very good.

I think I would cut off the top of the tank, measure the space and see if there was a plastic tank could fit in the hole. otherwise as I have already cut of the top, just get a new top welded back in place.

I appreciate you want to do the job at the lowest cost but I would at least seek some guidance from a marine engineer to get their opinion of options available. The rust really is too far gone and I’m sure chopping it out and welding back to good metal would be an option, then re coating the inside with a suitable drinking water safe sealant…….just putting a bladder in still gives you the problem of expansion so you would need to engineer the overflow from / out of the bladder….. The tank appears to have many shapes and angles which makes it more difficult.

I reckon youre overthinking the complexity of a water tank! The water tank overflow cant work on pressure because the water hose going into it isnt sealed, its just pouring into an open pipe into the tank. Youve just got water leaking out of the big rustholes when the tank overflows because the overflow pipe is blocked maybe? Have you tried jabbing something flexible up the overflow pipe to clear it out from the inside or the outside? Good to see you finally got the hatch done, and nice work from the duck department!

epoxy resin cut plastic a little bit bigger put underneath the hole and epoxy on top then get yourselves some Gorilla 84756 Waterproof Coat & Seal just to make sure or look for a bladder to go inside.

your going too have to bite the bullit and get it welded or get a bag fitted inside the tank remember thats your drinking water you really really don't want rust in it ..i feel your pain we've spoken about rust before on a prevoius video's comments my boat is rusty also 😆😆

tank needs emptying for a proper look ,might be other areas rusting away, one way for a repair is to fibreglass the inside of the tank completely ,or make a bigger inspection hatch ,to loose the rust area

The kitchen floor looks really good, well done both of you. As for the water tank, well i wouldn't like to drink water from it! I would definitely go for a bladder to go inside it 👍

Did you seal the bottom side of the hatch? If not, it'll still absorb moisture from the bilges and swell up in the summer.

PAINT A DUCK ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOAT , BACK UP AND LOOK WITH THE HATCH WINDOWS AS EYES AND THE FRONT OF THE BOAT AS A BEAK , COOL HUH ,LOL, EVERYONE WILL LOVE IT

I think it's a breather tube not an overflow normally when filling the tank the water comes out of the filler hole when full.

I think the best option you have to sort out the water tank is to not use the tank as a tank instead use the tank as a housing for something that is nonporous and won’t rust. Removing all of the rust applying some red oxide, and possibly some sort of rubberized lining paint to smooth it all out and protect it, and then put in some sort of plastic or flexible bladder tank. Having a water tank using just the structure of the boat is typically something that a ship or boat would use that has a water purification system. I can’t wait to see what you decide to use!

4 options - a flexible liner; fibreglass - small car kit one would do; cold weld; get some one in remove the tank, make all good and either new plastic tank or make a new stainless steel one; replacement means you end up with potable water on board.

Hello CroBots - That tank looks completely dead/naff or other rude words. Why not line it with polystyrene 1" sheet - Then go and buy a suitable sized/shaped WATER BAG from a Marine Chandler. The water would then be cool from the tap, insulated for winter. The bag collapses as it empty's So the water should stay drinkable. Periodically a dose of Milton (Chlorine) then empty it and refill it to wash the Milton out. If you leave an access to the bag you can take it out and clean it/inspect it easily. I used to have a bag on my yacht it worked perfectly and they last for years, if they are in a cushioned box as above. Another gem from an old salt. John

I wonder of the solution to the water tank would be to cut out the deck and lower in a made-to-measure stainless tank? Would that be cost prohibitive? If so, maybe a go fund me campaign could do the trick. A stainless tank would be effectively sealed and definitely spider-proof. After all, you wouldn't want to ingest spiderlings in your drinking water! The hatch looks marvelous! The finished floor is really transforming the boat!

We know we have brown sludge in the bottom of our water tank and haven't dealt with it yet as we're leisure boaters. Just been on the nsbc boat maintenance course and they recommended once we'd cleaned it out and treated any rust to install a large plastic water bladder to hold the water rather than refilling the tank which we can never be certain won't have chemicals etc leach into it especially as we dot turn a tank of water over that often May be something for you to consider

Definitely try checking out a thick rubber flexible bladder that you can put inside the water tank. To save you having to cut off the whole tank lid and re welding a whole new lid in place. Hopefully you’ve finally found the pesky leak source that has been tormenting you both for so long 🤗ps: I would oil your beautiful new living room floor with the same oil, it will look amazing…. Especially after seeing how epic the kitchen floor looks 🤗

Give the tank a good cleaning then rust proof paint , then order a liner to put in

JB Weld will fix that hole in a heart beat.
