For our Border Collie Labrador Mix (Borador) we decided this would be the ideal size as it will grow with her, and a crib mattress really is the BEST dog bed there ever was! Honestly your dog will love it!
You can even buy waterproof covers for crib mattresses making these dog beds easy to clean up for house training puppies!
Alright for this project you will need a few things:
1 - A Baby Crib and mattress - Free sources abound for this so keep your eyes out on Facebook Marketplace, and Craigslist. ~~ We Paid $10 cause it was in really good shape!
2 - Wood for the top - We used 6 pieces of 1 X 5 X 6ft long and cut them down to fit the overhang we were looking for. $4.54 CDN per board X 8 = $36.32
3 - Wood for the door opening you will create - WE used 2 pieces of the 1X5 X 6ft that matches the top. (included in price above)
4 - Barrel locks - 2 of them $4.78 ea X 2 = $9.56
5 - Hinges - 2 of them $8.78 for a pack of 2
6 - Screws Between 60-100 of them. (we had on hand)
Total COST - $ 64.75 + Tax = BARGAIN!!!
You will also need a saw, drills, and a handy person. :)
