Thanks Dr Jones, Our 13 yr. old lab, Bubba ate a plastic bag ans some cardboard. We took him to an emergency vet hospital, they charged us 1000, to diagnose the problem, they recommend a 4500, surgery. We took him to an university emergency veterinary hospital, they charged us 800.00 wanted to perform a 6000, surgery. We were thinking about having to put bubba down, we made the decision to take him home. They wanted to leave the intravenous pic. in his arm since we were going to bring him back the next day to put him to sleep, we asked them to remove the iv tube. I saw your video, tried to give him Vaseline, it was almost impossible for him to take, tried the castor oil and two days later he pooped out the bag, i had to help him with the last couple of inches coming out of his behind, but he is back to eating, walking, playing with a ball, etc. What the hell is wrong with these veterinary hospitals, where the Drs and staff are supposed to care about saving animals??? Spent almost 2000$$$ on diagnosis, pain meds etc. Yet castor oil and a little time helped us save our old dog. You talk in another video about the veterinary Drs and the crap they do. Sad, worse than people Drs. That push meds that have worse side effects than the diseases due to the pharmicutical companies biased make $$$$, no concerns about people. 😭😭😭😱😱😱😵😵😵, Jim H.
Thank you, Dr. Jones! Wish I had seen your video earlier. My dog had eaten a tiny tag off a toy and was trying to vomit it out. But he was bright, active, still ate well, and drank water without throwing it up. But I called my vet to ask for any tips, they immediately told me I needed to bring him in for an emergency appointment right away. When I told them I couldn't due to work, they essentially shamed me for not doing so.. When I brought him in, the emergency vet claimed he may have pancreatitis. And wanted to do X-rays, blood testing and give him medications. All costed above $1k. And.... They found nothing... Sigh. I'm emotionally exhausted. So I will watch more of your videos and learn how to observe my dog for signs like you showed, and if not urgent, I will utilize home remedies. Can't change the past. But with your generous shares on how to care for our pets, I will be more ready to recognize when my dog needs emergency visits or not. 😪
Keep in mind vets are businesses and it's about earning money. I barely go to a vet, we can't afford it anyway. And here in Spain, they never put the dog to sleep, even when really sick, because they try to get every cent out of you. You can get a credit at a vet banc, when there is something....but they don't let him go. It's awfull here now.
I had a vet do this to me and do extra surgeries I had not asked for at the same time. And he got a skin infection. I hate that broad, and she should be out of practice. Atrocious manipulator.
Any update on your pooch? Mine just ate some string earlier today and has been acting fine I scheduled an appointment for but figure I’m going to get the same treatment
Thank you Dr. Jones for putting this video out. It seems as if these vets are only about money. They know we love our fur babies and will do anything and everything for them. These simple steps you’ve told us will help tremendously. My Shiz-Tzu ate a wig cap, he wasn’t in any pain, not dehydrated and still drank and ate food. I will keep an eye on him and give him mineral or castor oil. I hope he passes it through or throws it up.
One of my dogs Angie is like a freaking goat. She eats anything! I would give her used soda or water bottles to play with and have to remove them from her when she starts getting tiny bits of the plastic. She has chewed and eaten my curtains, sheets, edges of my pillow cases. She will steal the used toilet paper tubes from the bathroom bin and eat them. Geez a couple days ago I gave her a small stuffed bunny to play with but I fell asleep before removing it and woke to find the two ears about 3 inches long, each gone! They were no where to be found so I'm sure she ate it. Last week she stole an end of a cotton roll and gave me the scare of my life for two days before I was satisfied she didnt eat any to clog her up. Some dogs can really turn you gray! As for the bunny ears, well she's eating, drinking pooping and rough housing with her cousin Ellie so I'm not worried. Thanks Doc for this vid!
I checked my dog vomitted a plastic bag today morning but rest everything is fine like drinking water, is interested in food and playing too. However, still not passed stool.. Yesterday night it was very constipated and with some mucous. Watching your video really helped my mind which otherwise was racing and tensed. Hopefully my daughter is not having any plastic bag residue in her stomach
Thanks SO MUCH. Hoping to see that once pretty cotton pot holder my mom gave me move through in the next day or so. I have castor oil so maybe giving her a tiny bit this evening. Her gums look great. ate a small bit of food and water and has kept it down. but her tummy is bit sore and she isn't as playful. thank you so much.
Thank you for this video!! Our chocolate lab ate a pillow and couldn't keep food down and wasn't pooping. We thought we would have to take him in but tried the Vaseline and castor oil first. Worked like a charm!! Thank you so much!!!
I had a Labrador that ate socks. We would put them up and he still somehow got a hold of them. He ended up getting his intestines twisted. He wanted to eat but would throw it right back up. I rushed him to the emergency vet to be told he need $3000 surgery to untwist and removed the blockage. He used to move it through when he went to the bathroom. It broke my heart seeing him so sick. Pipi is such a good patient.
@@lioneagle5932 They did surgery which in 08 it cost $3000.I took him to an emergency Vet because he wasn't passing it that time and got very sick. It twisted his intestines.
I've been severely stressed the past day or so and this video is belong me out a ton! Although I'll continue to worry a bit until I know we're out of the woods this is great info. Our small 15 ish pound Shitzu snuck off with a 1/4 of a corn cob and snacked on it without us knowing... Approaching 48 hours and she seems hydrated, no pain, eating, and so far a good amount came out in her stool. Gave her some mineral oil to try and help. Thank you for this video!
Thanks doc, our dog bubba the wonder dog at a plastic bag and cardboard. He was throwing up and had bad diarrhea, took him to an emergency vet, after 1000 dollar diagnosis, they wanted to rush to surgery, another 5 k. We were not staying longer in the area so we went to a university teaching hospital, they did more tests for 800.00 xand wanted to do surgery for over 6000.00. we were going to put him down with him being an older dog, but took him home. He was drinking water that I added chicken broth. The next day he started eating wet food with some ground turkey I added. He doesn't seem to be in pain. We are trying the castor oil, due to it being difficult to get him to take the Vaseline. This is criminal that vets charge so much to treat animals, we are retired and on a fixed income.
Omgoodness! I wish i found about this before sending my little one to the vet. Our little bubu ate some sort of a foam from his ripped apart toy doll and possibly hair causing intestinal blockage. Now, the hospital vet is charging us ridiculous amount of money just to remove these items. Btw, glad to hear that you are also from BC!
Thank god for this video .... my 15 pound pompski ate a ankel sock and i have been flipping out all day and i went through your check list 1. No vomiting 2. No pain in the stomach i checked a billion times 3. Drinks water fine without vomiting 4. Eats treats and normal food without vomiting 5. Loves to run and play still I am one releaved doggy dad
Thank you Doctor this great video. Love the dog collars too. The neoprene headgear (including the plastic clips) to my bipap went missing one day. I looked all over the house, couldn’t find it. I checked my dog, never showed signs of eating it, and he acted normal. I figured he just hid it. BUT It showed up several nights later when my dog barfed it up on my bed! Crazy!
Mineral oil would be the easiest to administer. It has no smell or taste. There is food grade mineral oil. It usually goes through your system between one or 2 days. There will be lingering cases of the runs. You can also use mineral oil to freshen up your cutting boards while you are at it. I know this only because I have intestinal problems since birth and use it myself. One of the downsides is that the oil kills the good bacteria in your gut. Mineral oil costs about 4 bucks for a pint.
Dr Jones, can you address a drainage blockage remedy? My dog got bit in 2 areas. I couldn’t get a vet appointment so I I cleaned it (watched your videos), used warm compresses, etc. The second day his leg swelled to twice it’s normal size. I was able to get him into the vet. They said he had a drainage blockage. Long story short, they put in 4 drains, gave him meds… He is recovering.
Speaking of eating socks, I have a lab mix that will eat any sock she gets her paws on! I try my hardest to keep socks where she can’t get to them but she will go through the laundry basket and steal one. She will eat dirty or clean ones. So far, no problems or signs that she has any obstruction and we find ‘used’ socks 🧦 in the yard. This has been extremely helpful as far as dehydration and signs of blockage. If anyone has any suggestions to stop her from eating them in the first place, that would be awesome! Thanks Doc for the helpful pet videos!
laundry bins with lids - extreme laundry discipline ! ie - no laundry dumped on couch- goes directly into drawers etc . works for me … I have the same problem with my dog ( poodle mix )…
Thank you Dr Jones for sharing this video. I have been wondering the past couple of days if my Zeke is stopped up. His brother River was stopped up whenever he was very small and I spent over $4,000 on a vet bill having surgery on his intestines. God bless you and thank you so much.
My pom puppy ate a beauty blender and I am so worried. This video helped me relax a bit. If she throws up the treats I gave her and the water she drank I'm taking her to the vet.
Thanks. My 100lb dog has eaten an absorbance pad from a package of meat. I've looked and found it's contents are not overtly toxic, but I'm worried the plastic casing will bind her up. Having watched this thoroughly, I'll pick the Vaseline, just because I have it here and keep an eye on how she seems to feel for the next day or 3. Thanks again for the video!
My dog ate a washcloth while I was at work. Later that night, she threw up the 1st half, then in the wee hours of the morning, she threw up the 2nd half. I had washed towels, folded, and left the basket on the floor. I knew immediately, not seeing the washcloth in the basket and couldn't find it anywhere. I was panicked and horrified. Thank God it ended well.
For the mineral oil I was told a tsp for every ten pounds? Also not to give it directly because they could inhale it into there lungs to mix it with food? Can we use coconut oil as well? I believe my dog has an obstruction from a busy bone rollhide!
When my dog eats a foreign object like a squeaker from a toy or a fruit pit, I give him sauerkraut and it helps move it through. That is a very German remedy. Luckily he will eat it willingly;-))
This was good information…..I just lost my Golden Retriever and he had been sick with same symptoms an vet gave him antibiotics and he fully recovered !! Symptoms being coughing up thick clear mucus with white foam usually after drinking water …… then a month later after recovering he did same symptoms again and vet prescribed same antibiotic an 3 days into meds he seemed to be having some respitory problems late that night so I started a vaporizer with just water an it seemed to work he was breathing fine so it’s 3 AM so I fall asleep an then woke up at around 7 AM and my dog was dead….. We had done test panels an all came back normal …… any guesses to what would cause him to die?
Aww so sorry to hear this, my dog ( boarder collie ) is off food all week, I’m goingto watch this and see if this video gives me a idea what might be wrong with her, she’s 13 years old. Back legs seem to be giving her problems now too.
@@ParArdua Ends up to be Pyometria She’s been on antibiotics a week, 7 day course, now just have to see what way she’ll be, as no more tablets from today 🥲
My frenchie swallowed a chewy treat stick whole (not rawhide) as i tried to take it from her 😕 I patiently waiting for it to hopefully digest and come out....she is drinking and ate a small piece of chicken no vomit or diarrhoea
Thanks Dr. Jones for these useful information My dog ate a thin artificial leather belt just in one hour ago, so shall I start give him one of these remedies that you recommended right now please can you or anyone who went in the same experience answer my question, I really appreciated
Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that he was buried and that he rose again the third day praying for everyone everyday God bless you all
I have tried to subscribe to your newsletter as well as signed up for your free ebook from your site and every time it returns an error message. How can I get to your free ebook? I want to know all the things I could be doing to improve my dog's health and prevent diseases. I would like my pack to age as comfortably as possible.
My dog has not been eating her food, but has been drinking a lot of water for the past 8 days. She also had an injured front paw. She was limping. So the vet initially treated the paw, cuz I didn’t have $894 to pay for X-ray and whatever else they recommend. I’m a broke artist with a day job, so they chopped the bill down to basically 3 medications and an exam. Where I come to find out they didn’t check out her belly . Just the paw. Anyway long story short I’m worried about my dog. The vet said she has nothing open until Friday at 3. Today is Tuesday. She had started the running out to the bathroom and straining to poop since like 5pm yesterday (Monday) Now 24hrs later her body is still bloated stomach, with black like runny stool. Blood in her urine and booty. Cuz I saw the blood on her bed. Then a puddle of urine with blood in it in the hallway. I just went to let her out, I’d keep the door open for her but damn mosquitoes from hell are out. Does the medication Loxicom cause bad issues with dogs? Cuz the side effects are basically like a clogged bowel. I’m worried I’m going to lose my best friend
Hello sir, good day! may i ask what is the procedure how to use mineral oil to my dog, do i need to mix it in water or food. I don’t have any idea 😢 this is my first encounter to my dog. he’s only 3yrs old. Thank you sir for the answer!

I'm worried our pup may have ate a sock. My mam said she can't find it. Only reason I'm worried is because he's thrown up a few times. But hes still very playful and still eats and goes to the toilet
Well Doc, I feel$100% better but I'm still worried because I'm giving her Prilosec 20 mgs. twice a day and I've tried Dr. Jenni's home made digestive aid which has pre and probiotics with digestive enzymes, slippery elm, marshmallow root, peppermint leaf and L-glutamine but gave her bloody diarrhea for a day. So that was a week ago and she still doesn't seem herself. What do you think?
My 3 year old terrier. Ate a 5 year old rawhide chew (half of it). It was my other dogs before he passed in 2019. Now I'm worried. It had peanut butter in it. She found it behind the shelf unit.
My dobie used to eat socks and they would come out like sock turd parcels. Most of the time they passed through but he had a major compaction that nothing shifted it and he was too old for surgery so was pts. He also pooped a filled dog Pooh baggie that had been dumped by someone out on a walk. Oh and he liked knicker crotches and would chew on them too. Bless him Bloat was common with this dog 🤦
I never gave my dogs leather toys. Not only because of obstruction but because most dogs can’t distinguish bw leather toys and leather shoes. Another potential hazard are sponges used to clean dishes and pans. An acquaintance had a yellow lab he loved and trained to bird. One day, someone cleaned a greasy meat pan with a sponge, and left it within reach of the dog. The dog ate it, and died alone.
What a great informative video THANK YOU!! Put my mind at ease some. I was at 100/100 stress and now I’m at 90/100- I MAY be able to sleep now tnite (with the dog on the couch and not the bed that is for monitoring purposes) But what do you think about using castor oil instead of Vaseline? Cuz when this first happened (6 hours ago) my first instinct was to make him vomit (he ate a bunch of oily paper towels) but then I hesitated and if I induced vomiting, I didn’t want to change him choking on the paper towels bec I was making him throw up with the small amt hydrogen peroxide. So I decided against making him throw up- he JUST finished getting over a Giardia parasite he caught from the shelter we got him from and his GI has been messed up for months and I got him normal BMs for a whole week (first time nirmal since we’ve had him) and I didn’t want to upset his digestive tract anymore than it already was AND NOW IS AGAIN. this poor dog, he’s a puppy and eats rocks and anything it bolted down.
I’ve a five week old puppy and he has eaten some rubber seal of his water bowl. He managed to be sick and three pieces of rubber came out but he is struggling to poo normally and it has been loose stools but he’s eating and drinking and acting his normal self. I’m currently using paraffin liquid from the vets. Would your recommendations help with this?

Hi Dr, This morning when I came downstairs I just noticed we left a diaper on the floor is was soiled. My dog tear it apart and probably ate some of it as well. 🤮🤢 🤦🏻♀️ Is there anything that I can do or give him to make sure he poops it out and he is gonna be okay. Thank you in advance. Your videos are really much appreciated it. 😊
I do need help….what are the odds that my 12 pound dog push through a peach pit? She ate one 3 days ago (05/21) and today is 05/24? She did threw up a couple times back on 05/22 but yesterday and today seem ok. Should I do more tests or should I do some of the things in the video? She is 1 Year and 3 months old.
Hi, good Sir, my Doberman pup consumed a soft bottle cap with an approximately height of 1 cm and diameter of half a cm 2-3 days ago. She is doing all normal - she passed the basic criteria Pipi passed to ensure that there is no serious obstruction going on - but her poop seems a mixture of soft stool and hard stool. Can I apply the tips you mentioned in the video? Do you have any other tips to provide? Thanks!
Kind of off topic but I remember you saying you give your dogs colostrum supplement. Is that a popular thing because I got some from tractor supply when my pup was 6 weeks and mixed it with her goats milk. Can I still mix colostrum with her water at 5 months
I have a 10 kg Terrier who (I believe) has a "blockage", and has acted in the same way you have described. Yesterday, I started the (liquid) Vassoline for his weight. How long do you recommend I keep him on the Vassokine before I see results or take him in for a thorough check?
What about if it’s eating but every so often it will like cough gag. Nothing comes up tho. Running fine, not eating quite as much as normal tho, and was itching paws/groin. I mixed nettle tea and coconut oil and rubbed on him and he stopped bitting, but still has a cough. (I don’t know that he ate anything but he was a bit constipatef and developed a cough/gag ever 1-2 hours. I gave him 1/4 can of pumpkin and is having normal bowel movements now. Could something be stuck in his throat or related to allergies? He did throw up one time clear/with a bit of foam after running a bunch outside. (Mini labradoodle, not quite a year old, 15 lbs) on the skinny side doesn’t want to gain weight for me.
@VeterinarySecrets he is trying to puke this out. Otherwise, he is fine running around having food and pooping. Should I wait for him to vomit/induce vomit. Or should I take him to the Vet.
My Lab has swallowed socks and stretch gloves multiple times. Usually within a week she will vomit them back up. The most frustrating thing is if I don't retrieve it immediately she will swallow it again. She stole my mom's sock two weekends ago, and threw it up when I was distracted and not close enough to get it back from her. Now it's been 10 days and although she doesn't seem to be affected other than occasional stomach gurgling, it's hard not to stress about my crazy little monster.
My dog has eaten 3 small socks. He's a 13 y/o standard poodle. I've had him xrayd and they are in his stomach. They've been there at least a couple of weeks. Would the Vaseline still work? He is eating and drinking. He's thrown up one sock but still has the three.
Please help, dog possibly ate sock (as per my 10 year old) but not sure. Its been 48 hours and he looks fine, eating drinking but I am worried all the time. Just want to know by this point its definitely passed through stomach obstruction phase? Thanks in Advance
My 1 year old dog was acting normal then barged a yellow barf n it smelled like fecal matter and dry coughed n the X-rays said it was in her stomach n cause her stomach to be slightly puffy n it could be from inflammation or the object but they can’t tell what the object is. I’m scared for my puppy
