DOG GROOMING CLIPPER BLADES and COMB ATTACHMENTS-What is the difference

IS THERE A DIFFERENCE?!? DOG grooming clipper blades and comb attachments-what is the difference? How to properly use them? How to groom your dog like a professional! I put a demo together for you to demonstrate using snap on combs. I’ll be trimming a large Labradoodle named Diesel.
I want to make sure you understand you cannot use snap on combs to give your dog a hair cut if you have not properly prepared your dogs coat for trimming. This demo will show you exactly how to do that my friends!
Clipper comb attachments cannot stand up to clipper blades when it comes to trimming dog breeds with thicker coats such as Cocker Spaniels, Poodles, Doodles and a lot of our favorite mixed breed dogs.
If your dog has a matted coat or an abundance of dead coat your will find using snap on comb attachments is not an option. They will not get through the coat and will snag and get caught in the tangles. Which leaves you only two options…To use a clipper blade that is short enough to get between the skin and the mats or De-mat your dogs coat prior to attempting to clip it.
De-matting is not something most novice groomers are capable of achieving successfully…. as this method takes years of practice and know how to safely accomplish a perfectly prepared coat for clipping.
It is not easy to groom your dogs hair without proper training. In fact, most people don’t even have the proper tools, let alone understanding how to use them correctly. Any tools you can use to make it easier to give your dog a good looking hair cut is something of value to you and your pet.
The only downside to grooming with snap on combs, is that they may not leave the coat as long as you’d like it to be. The largest size guard combs in the wahl set is a 1 inch. IF you desire longer length of coat than that, you will have to learn to freehand cut…which is hand scissor trimming.
The clipping technique is the same when using a blade or a guard comb. Blades leave a smoother finish where guard combs leave a little texture to the hair. In this video we start with dog grooming for beginners.

Just discovered your videos and really enjoy them. I've been grooming professionally since 2009, started out as a mobile groomer. Before that I was a Veterinary Technician for 12 years.I learned to groom by watching grooming videos by Jody Murphy, a master groomer who has won many show grooming awards. (I am a very visual person.) I've always loved animals, especially dogs, from a very early age. In 2011, I suddenly became a paraplegic overnight. Now I groom in my home and besides paying the bills it is also my therapy. If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life! Thank you for sharing your knowledge, tips and tricks. I try to learn something new every day and you are inspirational to watch. Wanted to share a tip I use. If you have a dog that seems to back way from you and sometimes their foot goes off the edge of the table, you can use a pool noodle as a protective edge guard. Just cut it to length, then slit it from one end to the other and push it onto your table edge. If your table is thick, like mine, you can use a large or jumbo pool noodle. I got mine on Amazon. Also can help to keep your shears from accidentally being knocked off the table! Thanks again for teaching us and helping us be the best groomers we can be.

Girl!! You are a Gem! I love your tip and I never thought something so simple could make such a difference on the grooming table but that sounds like an amazing tip! Thank you for sharing it with all of us and bless you heart for doing what you love and loving what you do❤️ P.S. I have a ton of Jodi Murphy's dvd's also and still watch them:) She has always been one of my hero's😍Hugs my friend!

So how did you learn about all the different costs and shavings, that’s crazy you taught yourself ! I was thinking of doing a course but it’s like 6/7k I can afford it but thinking Isit really worth it , the only thing I need to no more about is costs and which blades to use , everything else like nails and washing and drying is easy !

Wonderful presentation! I am simply trying to figure out how to groom my Giant Schnauzer. The trimmer thing tends to be overwhelming, combs vs blades, so confusing, but I learned tons from you! You show and explain things in such great detail. You build my confidence. You address every detail! OMG! Watching the video as I type...you answered my question....so the comb determines the length despite the blade! I kiss you! As far as future videos, just keep doing what you are doing. thank you SOOO much for this video. I started grooming my own dog when i had a schnauzer and didn't need these guards. When she passed and I ended up getting a couple of sheepadoodles, i upgraded my clippers and purchased these guards. When they had puppy coats, I had no issues. When their coats changed, I started getting really frustrated with my clippers not cutting. I even purchased additional blades thinking i needed a sharp blade. This totally revealed I wasn't preparing the coat. I'm excited to try this again but preparing the coat this time!

Not easy with a squirmy baby but he’s not too bad. I used the #10 on his whole body including face and it’s not perfect, but he looks good and nobody will know. Lol. Hi Amy Lee..... I have listed with interest to a few of you video clips & thanks aye! I giggled to myself when you were answering a question from someone in relation to clipping with & against the lie of the dogs coat..... :) I myself am a sheep shearer & while I was doing my dog grooming training a few years ago I actually found out quickly how much extra comes off by clipping in reverse! OMG I was shocked to be fair, as I got carried away while grooming a shitzu. Oh it was certainly a conversation which a few of us got may weeks of laughter from. Yet on the day at the salon I was mortified. The wee dog had tracks in the coat, it wasn't really bad but I knew I had slipped up. Going against the lie of the hair removed a little extra which was leaving the coat uneven. The dog was evened up before it's owner collected it yet I was certainly NOT going to forget that day! Yet we all had learned something different & it will always bring a big smile to my face! When shearing sheep I can go forward or backwards (easiest way to get the job done). Sheep wool grows out from the skin & makes for quicker & easier clipping sometimes. But aye hello from Ireland. 🥰😄🙃

Just found your vid and watched your live feed. Learned so much and I've been home grooming my Lakeland terriers and Airedales for years and years because of an unfortunate drugging abuse with one of my dogs at a salon. Lakies are very difficult to groom because the showdog cut without hand stripping takes time. Now I have been using different blades to get the results I want. The front legs have caused the most difficulty because of the pillar formation. I do use chalk and spray to help but my dogs have very thin hair in that area. Is this normal for lakies that are not hand stripped. They also are not bred from championship lines. Do you handle Lakies?...is this normal for their undercoat to be very thin around the legs. I have to watch all your vids now to keep learning new ways of doing the grooming. Plus the dogs know how beautiful they are afterwards. It's a pleasure to see a happy proud pup. They show off so much...so cute! Thanks for your help.

I have two maltipoo's and the only trouble i have is she won't let me use the clippers on her legs. Idk what to do or to comfort her more so she is willing to let me work. Any advice would help. I love yours videos, i learned so much. Thank you for teaching us, your viewers how to properly groom our furr babies. ❤

Take breaks with them and allow them to lay down and relax. Newfies are a lengthy grooming session.

For a newbie (me) and my aussiedoodle I think my groomer uses an Andis pro Clip with a 0 or 000 blade with a 1 inch comb for my dogs body. I wanted about an 1 inch length left. Does this sound right? I will still use groomer just want to extend visits another 2 weeks. Wonderful videos you have made... Thank you so much for replies from anyone.

New subbie, thank you for your videos. I have a a miniature poodle, I'm doing quite well with taking care of her coat myself at home. I have a Wahl showpro, blades are screwed on tho, not with clips. I was thinking of replacing my plastic combs with the ones you using in the video but I'm so scared it won't fit? I hope it will tho. Please advise Thanking you in advance

I recently moved to a small rural town that has no dog groomer so I’m now grooming my dogs. Thanks for sharing so much helpful information. You talked about the clipper combs being interchangeable between brands (Andis, Wahl, etc). Are the blades interchangeable between brands?

What’s your best clipper? I’m using a “ cordless” clipper right now that I’m liking... but I’m always open for a better one... you mentioned a new one coming in may? Let us know please❣️really like your video! I’ve been grooming for YEARS and do lots of bouviers and terriers...

If I am clipping a heavy coat or large breed, I like the Wahl KM10 best. But for small jobs I love the Kenchii flash 4 in 1 cordless clipper. And yes, in May of this year, I will reveal a new clipper that many people will fall in love with❤️ Happy Grooming my friend:)

Just found you ! Yay ! So my question is I know my labradoodle has matts on her neck. Do you show how to shave those matts off? I think to start it would be better to just remove them instead of trying to dematt and do a better job of brushing between my grooming. Is that a good choice ? If so , do you have a video of how to do that ? Thank s!!!
