They remember. Especially if they had a traumatic moment, or a moment where they were severely afraid or upset there. Same can be said for the groomers too if your pet doesn’t like it there. Think of it like how little kids may not like going to the doctor or dentist’s office. They WILL remember when you either pull into the parking lot or walk into the building.

Dogs start to associate words to their meanings like a human baby. If you switch no's and yesses like if your dogs says something bad and you say YES, and vice versa to no, it will learn it backwards.

I literally had the same experience with my mom taking me to the clinic for immunizations before pre-k. She told me we were going somewhere else, then we pulled up to the clinic. I told her I would stay in the car and she told me that we were going there for her and not me and I believed her. She took me for ice cream afterwards. I STILL feel the hot sting of betrayal 20 something years later. LOL! Not cool, mom.

My mom would bring me, promising that it was only for a regular checkup because it was "required to keep insurance coverage" and there wouldn't be shots, then they would give me more than one shot in that visit alone. I wont say my Sheltie liked going to the vet, but he just took it in stride. He would amaze the vet staff by hopping up on the scale and sitting down and waiting for them to say "OK" and they would go nuts over him cause most dogs put up a fight.

I’m 72 and recently got a puppy. He’s my18th dog. A trip to the vet is forthcoming. Poor baby but he will survive.

This made me laugh. What a cutie. What's even funnier for me is my golden absolutely loved the vet. She would have been ecstatic pulling into the parking lot. She was overjoyed and wanted to meet and greet everyone once inside. I had a hard time convincing the vet she did indeed have signs of not feeling well before I got there.

Dogs noses are so incredible. As soon as he got near the building he recognized all the smells associated with the clinic. Poor doggy! Hope he got a nice treat after being traumatized!

My pups like to see the vet and their staff. I think they understand why we're here. I rescue animals and more often than not I am the first one to get them medical assistance. The first visit is always difficult. But the second or third visit, they realize that this building is full of my friends that care about me feeling better.

My dachshund is the same way. She hurt her back, as all eventually do, and we took her in for medical treatment. They gave us pills, and once she realized the pills were helping her pain she would swallow them without needing to hide them in food.

@@ryanbolson23 that's a dream come true, my dog usually eats everything and then spits the pill back out, but she usually rushes to get into the vet building because if she's in pain she knows they will help a lot. She was disappointed when the vet couldn't get rid of her bruised ribs immediately when a car hit her though ☹️
